There is a movie on the top page of the site. If you ask me, I think it looks good!

One more movie here:

I agree.

Looking forward to it.

Gameplay looks fine, and the add of the management of squadrons looks a very nice addition. Being a Nintendo product, it's gona be great, so I'm in.

Edit: Graphics looks ok, gameplay looks outstanding, and the content looks absolutely marvelous. And if the trailers music is and indicative, this is going to be a ****ing marvellous arcade with strategy added!

BTW, the trailer is espectacular! :D

Doesn't look too shabby.

We need more of these types of games...
but with a sci-fi slant! :(

Yeah, think this could be a bit of a cult hit. The graphics obviously are going to be a barrier for some - as good as they are in some ways, they obviously aren't that fantastic - but the game itself looks fast & entertaining, and if there's more than just arcade blasting to it it could be a great addition to the DS library.

Great to see Nintendo branching out into titles like this, though - they need that depth in their lineup, even if third parties start to jump aboard the DS train.

Agreed. Looks nice, but sort of "seen it before". Great, touch mechanics. We know they work, StarFox had nice controls. Ace Combat games have always bored me though, so maybe it's just the genre.

So is the gameplay "fine," or "outstanding?" Make up your mind.

Also, how does the music in the trailer guarantee that it's going to be a "marvellous arcade with strategy added!" [sic]

I wonder who the developer is...

You should check the trailer again? You're asking for what's in the game.

Nah, I'm talking about a Colony Wars-esque action game with lasers and proton torpedos and starports and shit.

Well, I guess I should have wrote the Edit label to help later people understand me.

And you know, the music can transmit the spirit of the game. It could be an indicative, or not. I just said that IF the music is to be an indicative, this looks more arcade gameplay than anything else.

The copyright is only of Nintendo, so this should be a Nintendo developed game.

And yes, this seems not to be the type of Sci-Fi you're looking for.

Jinx, meet Tanasten. Tanasten, meet Jinx.

I've been interested in this game since when it was called DS Air.
The style reminds me of the old DS Submarine Demo.

There is a third party flight action game coming to the Wii (and PS2)... Heatseaker? Something like that. It was featured 2 Nintendo Powers ago.

IIRC, there will be at least 2 different control input methods, one of which acts something likea flight stick. Looked pretty crappy, in all honesty (graphically), and it's done by some third party, so... *shrugs*

It would be funny if Tose was making the game, only to see the fanboy reaction afterwards.

Well there are billions of SEGA, Square-Enix, Nintendo games developed by little companies like Tose, Dimps, Jupiter, Genki (etc) most of us will never have known they were fully or partly involved.

I'd like, if this ends up good, to see this become a new Nintendo franchise. I can imagine a Wii version already. In any event it's good to see Nintendo diversifying their first-party portfolio.

I like how they added a rich backstory to this game a kind of replay of the Cold War with made up alliances but we all know who they really represent.

I could love this game. Couldn't they come up with a decent name though? DS Air is a throwaway, and even Jet Impulse is pretty generic.

But the logo is so cool!

Jet Impulse is a decent enough title for a fighter combat game, IMO. 'DS Air', on the other hand, is awful - it sounds like a sim where you're supposed to pilot passenger planes or manage an air freight company or something. I really hope they call it Jet Impulse in North America.

DS Air was pretty lame, but I like Jet Impulse. And I would assume Jet Impulse would be the US name, as I doubt they'd brand it with an English name in Japan as opposed to Kokonotsu Nomori Den Den Nahai or whatever and then leave it as DS Air in the US.

EDIT: Also, does anyone get an F-Zero vibe from the name Jet Impulse?

.... this site is a Japanese site, and it's named Jet Impulse, so it is the name for Japan.

Yeah I am fairly certain this was what once referred to as "DS Air".

Yeah I get the F-Zero vibe too. Maybe to be more Patriotic they should put in the American flag and call it Kill the Commies.

Yeah I am fairly certain this was what once referred to as "DS Air".

I meant that it is probably the US name in addition to being the Japanese name, as it would make no sense to come up with a different English name from the US one specifically for release in Japan.

Yeah that makes more sense :)

Holy shit this game looks intense!

From IGN back at E3 last year.

IGN said:
The only real hook that makes this product a significant addition to the Nintendo DS line-up is its support for the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service for up to four players, including a co-op mode where players can be the other person's wingman.

If it retains it, hot diggity.

Does this game remind anyone else of After Burner?

It looks a lot more impressive than what I recall seeing at E3. It seems like a lot of polishing has been done... which is good, seeing as games like this are one of the areas where the DS's library is seriously lacking (at least insofar as quality goes).

Why? Tose has made some pretty great games (DQH: Rocket Slime, Dragon Quest Monsters, Super Princess Peach). I'm certain the game's being outsourced to someone, but a lot of these smaller dev companies get a pretty bad rap.

Also, I don't think there are that many Jet Impulse fanboys out there.

Why's that? Nintendo isn't exactly shy about telling it like it is when a game's being outsourced, but every website lists it as Nintendo-developed, and I don't see any developer credits on that website (although granted they could be in Japanese). I don't find it too hard to envision a small group of 6 or 7 putting this game together under the radar within Nintendo.

Well that was a cool trailer! Hopefully the game turns out good. Some Wifi dogfighting sounds like fun. :)

Yeah, looks like there going to have co-op and dogfighting. Demo should be out Feb 1st so we can get some impressions then I hope. The story seems pretty serious and maybe even has voice overs? Not sure about the vo part. Really want to know who's making this.

Game looks really good! Definitely getting an Ace Combat vibe. Very pixilated explosions though. I hope those voice overs are part of the game. And I don't see what the deal is with it being outsourced, if the game's good the game's good. I sometimes get the feeling that no matter how good a game is, somebody would say it sucks for the sole reason that it was made by Dimps or TOSE.

And here is a bit of the IM conversation when I told my friend about this game. She recently got me into the Ace Combat series.

Me> Now they just need a space sim!
Friend> Hum. A super realistic one? Where you float around and patch up a tv sattelite then go home?
Me> NO! I mean space flight sim! Wing Commander DS. Actually... If they did it well, a super realistic space sim would be cool. Take off! Moon walks! Then later mars missions.
Friend> Lots of science? O.o
Me> Yes! 2 of your crew died of dysentery!
Friend> The Orion Trail.
