They haven't really communicated this being a live service game with seasons, have they?

I just saw it in the deluxe edition trailer, which I expected to just show the goodies you get for pre-ordering and whatnot, but then half the trailer is about this seasonal content stuff

Bandai Namco could have their Capcom moment of making polished single-player games that sell like hot cakes on Steam, but their greed could bite them in the ass if it hurts the overall game design and progression.

C'mon now, you aint playing an arcade airplane fighter game just because it decided to add season passes
The battle pass represents a subtle shift in design philosophy. For the first time in AC history, its developers want us to be engaged with the game long(er) term.

A small step, but an important one. We'll see how they execute. The clouds looked great in the trailer.

Engaged with the game for the longer term? What are you talking about? What happened to being engaged in a game and replaying it because it is fun?

Not every game needs this live service FOMO bullshit.

Or, you're interested in a single player game but need a crutch to admit it :lollipop_winking:

That's why I prefer Live Service over the old model. It prioritizes repeatable fun over grabbing my money.

I grew up playing SP games. It's why my breadth and depth of knowledge about gaming is so vast. I see all...

Great, you should check out Project Wingman then :lollipop_winking:. Inspired by Ace Combat but very action oriented, game also forces you to fully complete missions without mid-mission checkpoints so it should satisfy your need of being actually challenged.

The horror of optional cosmetics.

You mean the horror of removing unlockables from your game, free rewards, to instead include them on a paid for battlepass system?

Yeah fuck off with your 'optional' excuse. Look at what has happened with Tekken. Zero unlockables basically. EVERYTHING must be paid for.

I already knew this clown ass argument wouldn't hold water, and 10 years later it's clearly visible for all to see.

Optional my ass

Its not a deal breaker for me, but the more dlc a game has, the more it makes me question the purchase since i'm not always sure what is or isn't in the game. Some games are especially bad with how they communicate this.

This has to be taken straight out of AC8 press kit

Even as a huge Ace Combat fan - I aint buying that shit.
Sickening, really.
Sitting there advertising "skip 30 levels of progression".
Modern gaming is a joke.

What are you talking about? You'll almost definitely need to pay for season passes. The 'old model' relies on the game being engaging enough that you want to play it regardless of new content.

The "old model" (pay before you play) does rely on you wanting to play it. It does not rely on you continuing to play it.

The new model (pay after you play) is far more confident in the players ongoing enjoyment of the game.

Both models have led to great games but, IMO, the new model has essentially killed the old model. Tested fun >>> Imagined fun.

Whats the best Ace Combat game you can play today without it being a PS1 or PS2 exclusive?

Ace Combat 7, multi platform and easily the best title in the franchise.

We can fight about Marathon but you keep your sick masochistic perversions away from my Ace Combat. No one is going to be grinding out the multiplayer mode to rank 70 to get a damn emblem, what you have is a sickness.

That's sad news indeed. Deflates my interest in the game and moves it from a possible day 1 to a "might just wait for a sale".

7.

I don't think Ace Combat's gameplay lends itself well to PvP multiplayer. Maybe if they explored PvE instead, where you're part of a squadron taking on a swarm of tough enemies, that could be cool.

Yup. I played a half a match of AC7 multi-player and noped out.

No idea how to fix it other than force players to stay low (around skyscrapers, in canyons etc) but even then...?

i usually don't touch PVP. maybe a game or 2 but its typically pretty boring so season pass really doesnt matter. now this game allegedly has co-op missions, so maybe thats tied to the season pass... but i really don't care to have my Mig 35 look like a call of duty skin, so in the end i dont really think its a big deal. this forum just likes to bitch about everything.

Bandai Namco could be so cool. My most played games of the past 3 months has been Gihren's Ambition Menace of Axis V (fan translations for the win) and Zeon War for Independence. Bandai could re-release every worthwhile Gundam game stand alone or bundled but no.

I fear for future SD Gundam and Super Robot Wars. Don't even get me started on gunpla.

I'm a huge AC fan but wouldn't buy the pass. I actually didn't even get the DLC for 7.

I revisit the campaign maybe once a year or something like that but couldn't care less about unlocking everything or MP, never tried it TBH.

If you ever decide to replay 7 again you should try and get the DLC for cheap. Best missions in the game imo.
Really? I'll look into it. I refuse to buy stuff on PSN (can't transfer my account to the country where I live now) but I'm not against double dipping on steam for that.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll put it in my wishlist for the next sale.
