didn't expect them to add another nub....I agree, it would be twice the pain....if anything I'd wish they fixed the d-pad

...can't say I'm excited to trade-in my homebrew, or just outright buy another psp for the features that are being listed.....

Guess I'll have to hold one to see how it is

Oh no, we're back up to $200? Sigh... I want Star Ocean 2 a lot, but maybe I'll get the older, lamer $170 model instead anyway. Homebrew will be more possible on it anyway, probably for a good amount of time.

PSP P?

Nice idea, but that name isn't the best.

Is it going to be cheeper? Replacement for the old model or new, expensive SKU?

Make the PSP P cheaper than the current one and I'll buy.

Looks more like an enhanced version of the original PSP, than a groundbreaking redesign. Still the newly added features and improvements are more than enough honestly, basically it further perfects the already impressive PSP tech.

Hm I was a little disappointed by the $199 bit, but I suppose with a pack-in, that's not too bad. Can't wait for some pictures / hands-on time.

You missed the biggy.

It's got video out so you can play your games on your tv.

hmm.. Wii and psp-p... alrighty then...

But nice upgrade. I was about to buy a PSP but thank god I waited to find out what Sony was gonna pull out at this years E3..

That's it. Speakers shifted to the edges of the screen. The white one is a Star Wars special edition and features a Darth Vader on the back. There's also a Family Guy movie bundled in along with Daxter.

I might pick one up in the hopes that someone will hack it right off the bat. Then I never need to worry about downgrading. Also: Spindoc, can you host that picture in photobucket. I'm at work and I need to see this bad boy.

Edit: thanks, any word on dimensions?

The Dax plus stick plus movie combo is a really nice deal. I was sort of expecting more from the redesign, but I want to see the screen and if the Dpad is any better. I'll likely sit pat on the PSP I've got already, though.

is it really PSP P?
I doubt it. It probably came from when Tretton was stumbling over his words a bit and got the PSP/PlayStation Portable names a bit jumbled and said "PlayStation P... Portable".

I'm a little disappointed, but I'll probably wait for this model. It's a shame that they didn't do more with it. I wanted internal storage :(

Everything as expected, except the video output capabilities, which are awesome and which I didn't expect. Though PSP res games won't look very nice on big screens.

Maybe I heard wrong, but I thought he said the redesigned PSP in black without bundle would remain $169 and only the bundles are $199.

Nice, but I'm a little disappointed with the design. Honestly I expected them to go with the clamshell look, which would've made it smaller/more protected. Seemed like a no-brainer before but they didn't go for it. Still, I'm glad they're making it better.

New PSP:
Better speaker placement.
19% thinner
33% lighter
Faster UMD Drive
Better battery life

New Silver PSP + 1GB stick + Daxter + Family Guy Freakin' Sweet = $199
Star Wars White Darth Vader PSP + Star Wars Battlefront Whatever = $199

I assume the new PSP is REPLACING the old one at $169

September for the new console.
October for the bundles.

I'm buying that Star Wars one. Dark_Alex stopped. So I'm keeping a homebrew PSP, but I want a new one to stay on the latest firmware.

It also has 64MB of built in memory.

Portable Entertainment Just Got Sleeker

The new PSP is a sleeker and more streamlined version of the popular original PSP system. It is 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the current version, making the all-in-one mobile entertainment system even more convenient to carry around at less than 1/2-pound in weight and less than 3/4-inch in thickness. The new PSP system will also have a thinner, more efficient battery, 64MB of system memory and video-out capabilities allowing consumers to enjoy their games at 480 x 272 resolution and movies at full standard-definition resolution on any progressive scan TV.

In addition to the "Piano Black" model launching in September in the Core Pack, the new PSP will also be available in two new limited edition colors in North America: A collector's edition "Ice Silver" PSP will be included in the Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack in September; and a limited edition "Ceramic White" PSP, including a Darth Vader silk screen on the unit, will be featured in the Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack launching in October. SCEA plans to make more than 140 new software titles available this fiscal year for PSP, in addition to the other great entertainment content coming on UMD(TM) (Universal Media Disc).

You've accidently used 3 too many exclamation points.

Redesign is all well and good but when you put that beside them still trying to pimp it as a home media device, well then it's slap head time.

Doh!

From the SCEE release, it looks like PSP video output for games will only work via D-Terminal and Component... there went my hope of piping it to hotel TVs and the old TV at my gf's folks' cabin :/
