Not a lot of people have been talking about PSP firmware 3.71's addition of custom themes, so I figured I'd make a thread. People have been making cool themes on hacked firmware for a while, but now it's an official feature, and Sony lets you make your own with the supplied tools!
Here are some samples of the awesome. Sorry, I haven't figured out direct screenshots yet.
Oh snapplecakes! Someone put Windows XP in my XMB!
The "Neon" skin is lovely lovely.
Muimui!
How to use them
PSP theme files are stored in .PTF files, which go into the /PSP/THEME folder of your memory stick. Access them under "Theme Settings" in the PSP's settings menu. Note that you can keep a theme's new icon art while providing your own wallpaper, if you like! Also, themes usually clock in at under 300k.
How to make them
Download Sony's official tool here. There's an English guide to getting things done here, but I haven't found one that outlines it in Photoshop yet.
Where to get them
I haven't found any non-Japanese theme repositories yet.
This guy, Tattuu, does a lot of awesome operating system themes.
This is the largest collection I've found so far. You can access more by clicking もっと見る at the bottom of the left box.
