Capcom celebrate No1 with ‘Devil May Cry 4’, the long-standing Sony PS2 exclusive arrives on PS3…but is now no longer entirely a Playstation brand and debuts simultaneously on Xbox360.

It has been nearly 3 years since the last version and ‘DMC4’ achieves something none of the other versions did – a No1 position on the All Formats chart and the individual format charts (DMC as a PS2 brand only ever got to No2). Xbox 360 takes the lion’s share of DMC4 sales with 61% over the 2 formats. Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ climbs 2 places to No2 (+85%) thanks to the arrival of the DS version to accompany the huge-selling Wii version (half a million sales in its first 7 weeks). Given the fact that the Mario and Sonic title was actually No1 on this chart in the week prior to Christmas 2007, one wonders if Sega might have held on to the coveted Christmas No1 spot if the DS version had shipped back then. In third place is a re-working of an original classic from over 10 years ago, first released by Acclaim on N64 in 1997 – Disney’s ‘Turok’ on PS3/Xbox360 is the first game from Disney-owned Propaganda Games in Canada. With such a plethora of new releases EA’s ‘Burnout Paradise’ drops from No1 to No4 whilst the new release extravaganza continues with Oxygen’s ‘PDC World Championship Darts 08’ – released 3 weeks ago on PS2/PC, the arrival of the Wii version causes a storm at retail as it debuts here at No6 (and No2 on the Wii Chart). Also debuting strongly is Sega’s ‘The Club’ on Xbox360/PS3 at No9, Eidos’ ‘Conflict: Denied Ops’ on Xbox360/PS3/PC at No11 and a new DS brain trainer from Nintendo – ‘Professor Kageyama’s Maths Training’ at No16.

Zack & Wiki down drastically in the Wii chart - new games stole thunder or supply shortages?

Maths Training performs fantastically for what it is, look for stable sales next week.


I've had casual players at work who were gagging for the darts game and really like it so I'm not surprised by its showing. Apparently it plays well too.
 
I'm digging the presence of the PS3 there. And BP/Uncharted are slowly getting there. Really impressed BP managed to outpace the 360 version this week.
 
burnout paradise ps3 finally outsells 360 version, also looks like the ps3 version being expensive affected sales a bit
 
Pretty low Wii shipments last week.

Also, the fact that a shovelware dart game sold like that should scare third parties. Not because no "real" games sell but because the Wii is establishing it's software hungry userbase because of the huge install base and they haven't invested enough.

I can understand a £5 difference but I went into Gamestation on Friday and the difference between the normal versions was £15! Ridiculous.

There isn't much need per se, but depends on next-gen.biz posting time. Week 5 were early so they made it before this thread was created, I dunno if week 6 will be the same.

lol it has nothing to do with the price. In any case, Burnout Paradise isn't a big seller, and it always seemed more like a Sony fans thing.
 
Only 3 positions difference between DMC4 360 and PS3.

Not too bad at all for PS3 with half userbase and ~£10 more expensive than 360 version.

ehh i only own a ps3 so i was looking at ps3 titles sorry

its not released in the US yet, hopefully it'll pick up on the 19th

Really? Why? We haven't seen a single PS3 game outsell a 360 game in its first week (yet). And much of the success of Burnout on PS3 is likely due to a heavy PS3-only marketing campaign, both on the TV, on billboards and bus stations etc across the UK. DMC has a similar 360-only marketing campaign, so even if they were still the same price, I'd expect the 360 version to outsell the PS3 version, especially given that the 360 has more than double the PS3 userbase in the UK.

Also, it's not that the PS3 version is expensive, it's just that the 360 version is cheap. The PS3 version is the same price as other new third party games, it's just that the 360 version is cheaper than other third party games. Turok is £5 more on 360 for example.

Sales figures jump down dramatically after the first top few places on the chart. #17 for a first week in February means paltry sales numbers. Just look at US/Japanese charts to see the differences in sales figures as you move down the chart past the Top 5.

DMC4 for PS3 is more expensive than the 360 version, and the game is advertised only for 360 version.

Good showing for The Club. It pleases me to see that such "weird" concepts can find their audience. I think the demo was critical for the game, seeing what a tough sell it is when you try and describe it with words only.
 
Anyone actually play that darts game? I think a friend of mine might have it. She mentioned she's been playing darts on the Wii, at least (could be Monkey Ball for all I know). I'm just curious how big a disclaimer it has. If (stupid) people throw the Wiimote during Wii Bowling, how much more likely is it for them to throw it during darts?
 
This is actually the second Wii Darts game, so I'm surprised we never heard anything from the first if this one is so successful. I remember seeing it in stores a few weeks back (unless it was a preorder box for this game, but I refuse to believe Dart videogaming is that big).
 
What in blue blazes is that Dart game and how did it manage to rank higher than Turok?

Yes, but there is a seriously low number of multi-console owners, certainly not enough to affect the charts here. There is generally a very big gap in sales numbers between #1 and #4. The price difference isn't as big as £15 anyway, it's £39.99 in most retailers on PS3, and £32.99 on 360 (or £37.99 and £29.99 in Tesco). Also we're yet to see a PS3 game hit #1.

And as I said before, the PS3 price is just a normal price for a current-gen console game, but the 360 price is cheaper than your standard third party game (£5-8 cheaper than Turok 360 and Burnout Paradise 360)

This question is asked, on average, three times on the first page of every PAL charts thread. We're doing better now, but it remains a struggle.
