We’re initiating launch sequence on sending Rocketmen out into the wide world of XBLA (March 5th) and PSN (March 6th). Here’s the official line on the game:

Join Nick Sion, Alec Mink and the Alliance of Free Planets in their white-knuckled, frenzied struggle to free the Solar System from the tyrannical grip of the Legion of Terra! Rocketmen®: Axis of Evil provides non-stop multiplayer action with role-playing game elements, including customizable characters and an engaging story, all wrapped in the game’s distinctive cel-shaded art style. Play with up to four players in co-op mode and blast anything that moves.

Think multiplayer Robotron-style run+shoot, with 10x the bullets, bosses, full character customization, a crazy amount of gameplay, and an actual story. A funny one even.

If you don’t believe me, check out the Rocketmen webisodes. As encouragement, we’re running a little contest. Watch the webisodes and get into the Rocketmen universe. If you can tell me what Nick Scion is eating during the Venusian wrestling match, send in your answer to contest@capcom.com. We’ll draw a winner at random from all correct entries and get you a free copy of the game.

Hope this turns out good, I know initial previews were pretty harsh. I'll be playing God of War but I hope to pick this up afterwards if impressions are good

Yea, I had not heard very nice things about it either, though hopefully the dealy added some polish to Rocketmen.

Online Co-OP?

Honestly, these days I'm more concerned if it has local co-op or not. Online is great, and it's nice to see it somewhat standard this generation...but I still prefer beers-on-the-couch co-op any day.

edit: and yes, this game has both

is the same dev working on Commando 3? I see similar style. Tbh I don't like that minimalistic art style. Reminds me how most american cartoons look the same these days.

Gameplay looks nice thou. Like the high speed bullets and spread shotgun. Oldschool FTW.

Btw. Why I never saw a single screen or comment or anything of Cash&Guns&Chaos? Also a Robotron clone. Is it that bad?

Looks decent.

Much better than Cash Guns Chaos, which I wanted to have 4 player coop.

I fail.

massively bumping a thread won't do it, so please refrain from doing so.

If you're really into either console, you'll check the online stores weekly.

downloading trial now, impressions to follow.

Awaiting.

Camera impressions first please!

From gamespot video I noticed the camera movement is fixed like in old games with prerendered background like time commando. Looked really primitive.

I didn't like it very much. It's a fairly generic shooter when you get past the whole stylized 30's sci-fi serial veneer. On top of that it's the first isometric shooter I've played in a long time where the camera is an enemy too, at times not moving to show you enemies that are right next to you and at others force-scrolling you along super mario bros. style before you've finished with a room. The one-way scrolling at parts also makes it frustratingly possible to get surrounded by a horde of enemies and pinned there gauntlet-style until you shoot your way through, which means many deaths and a lot of swearing. The weapons aren't all that exciting either, and they're mostly just momentary powerups.. which wouldn't be as much of a problem if the default pistol wasn't quite as weak and uninteresting.

Definitely try it out, but I don't think it's all that special :(

Ok played the trial, 10 levels in the full game and the first took about 5-10mins.

It has a cheesy comic book style cut scenes which are actually ok, there a little funny.

On starting the actual game the first thing that jumped out at me in the characters walk animation, looks really out of place but then got a gun and started playing.

At the start your weak and have a pea shooter but it ramps up well, with more enemys and bigger better weapons.

The camera is uber restrictive, on a rail as you go through the level and if there is somewhere you want to go or an item you can see on the edge ofthe screen, if you havnt done what you need to progress or went to far you have no chance.

The graphics are simple and OK, don't know how varied it would be over 10 levels, but would hope it was.

The RGP style character and weapon upgrading could be fun and collecting your points which the enemy's drop is a nice little extra task to keep you buzy.

Gives me a very basic Marvel Ultimate Aliance feel but with shooting. Could be alot more fun on co-op.

I normally buy most decent XBLA games, this ones a maybe if my friends like it and want to play but if I was playing this alone only I'd give it a miss.

800 wonderfully wasted points. to be succint, this game lacks in the fun department. the presentation was a letdown (I don't know the source material, so that might have been wasted on me) and felt kinda unfinished. but that could be ignored if the game was any fun, and it isn't. I'll hang in waiting for Commando...

I think they made a mistake with the first most basic level as a trial, it does feel like a drawn out tutorial where your going through the motions. A harder more challenging level may have been more enticing.

Gameplay video looks pretty damn sweet. Never did robotron, but I did play quite a bit of Smash TV and this is bringing back the urge to play some more of this style of gameplay :lol

Well, it isn't like there is much choice on the PSN as it is.
