UK :

It’s a return to No1 for Lucasarts’ ‘Lego Indiana Jones’ after a 4 week break, although the title has yet to drop out of the Top 3 since launch 7 weeks ago.THQ’s ‘Wall-E’ benefits from the cinematic release, climbing 14 places to No2, nestling just 46 sales behind the No1. Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ drops from No1 to No3, followed by a tranche of Nintendo Wii titles – ‘Wii Play’ is up 3 places to No4, ‘Super Smash Bros: Brawl’ is down 2 places to No5 and ‘Mario Kart Wii’ climbs 6 places to No6. Even the next title down is still Nintendo orientated, as Sega climb 3 places to No7 thanks to DS/Wii ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’. Sega’s other Olympic tie-in, next-gen ‘Beijing 2008’ drops out of the Top 10, down 6 places to No14. Activision’s ‘Guitar Hero: On Tour’ makes a debut appearance on DS, only 57 units off a Top 10 placing. Ubisoft’s Wii mini-game party title ‘Sports Party’ is this week’s highest climber – up 16 places to No13.

With M&SatOG still holding strong in most Euro territories, with the Olympics still to start it makes you wonder how much it's still to sell, 12m? 15m?!? 20m?!?!?!?

I saw these charts a while ago, and thought they were wrong, and they'd be updated, but are these final?

Because, unless I'm in some post E3 haze, I just don't understand them.

How can Lego Indiana Jones be no. 1 in the All Formats chart when the only games that appear in the Units chart are the DS version at 20 and the Wii version at 33? Surely the combined sales of all the versions can't put it at the top, when there are so many games above the highest selling version.

Well it's the summer holidays for the kids now in the uk so the large boost in wii sales is from little timmay and friends buying wii's, this christmas is also going to be mental for wii sales.

Multi-platform can really make a big difference. The number 1 and 2 in all formats have their highest position a #20 and #13, and only 1 other version in the individual top 40. The UK difference between say #10 and #100 can't be that much.

That must be the case.

Edit -
I suppose being summer and having so few releases creates this kind of scenario. For a multi-format title to make the top spot I just expected it to have at least one version in the top 10, or multiple versions within the top 20.

Nintendo has the biggest userbase. They should be at 50 millions around March/April.

Yet they don't have much 3rd party support.

The more I think of it, the more I'm convinced Nintendo's weak 2H lineup is a strategic move to allow 3rd parties to get great sales on Wii in Q4. If 3rd parties enjoy great sales, then all lights will be green to invest fully on this console.

I could picture Iwata thinking of something like that.

It's the other way around. Game sales in the industry are better when Wii does better. The growth of the industry in the past two years is almost single-handedly due to the DS and Wii breaking every such record they can.

They'd have to stop producing Mario Kart, Wii Fit and never release AC and Wii Music for that to happen ;)

Sometimes I do wonder, can we blame 3rd party for releasing mainly shovelwares on Wii, when many of them do sell like hot cakes, and in many cases, better than those core/higher budget titles?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

It has been building for a while, but Nintendomination is drawing near.

It's a shame that NoE are incompetent when it comes to releasing games in a timely fashion.

Are you calling boom blox a core high budget title.? If not please tell me what core high budget title(s) you are referring to.

Well at the very least, it must be more expensive than all those games quoted above.

Are we sure these aren't media create charts? I don't normally look at the PAL charts so I didn't realize how much Nintendo also dominated europe as well.

I know it's been mentioned before, but in non-massive selling weeks the difference between the games lower down the chart is very little. I'd say for rough example that this week selling 3-5,000 copies on the 6 formats is enough to top the 20k that Wii Fit is likely to have sold. The blurb says it's close, and with the summer holidays starting this week kiddy games will be in the ascendancy.

Question is will Wii record the highest ever total on the magical combined chart position graph and cause the axis to need expanding? :lol Looking at the Wii top 50 every gamer possible is accounted for from FPS to Endless Ocean - it truly does seem to be for everyone.

Holy shit, I thought last week was strong as it is, this week is even more crazy. Take a look at the UK briefing, the only game mentioned is Olympics 08 - the only game not available on DS or Wii, although that's easily replaced by M&S.

It's only really apparent ever since decent third party games have been released, even though many are just party games.

I wonder if it will pull numbers like Mario and Sonic

its a beijing game after all

Wow, strong opening for GH:OT, considering that the UK is not as big of a market for GH as the US. It'll probably go up next week too.

Buzz is already gone, this and Singstar really shows that those crowds are not interested in upgrading to PS3 yet (if at all).

Wall-E makes quite the jump and the Wii game debuts on the charts, considering that the movie just started it's not really a stellar performance though.

Luckyman said:

Indeed, you don't bring a game like BoomBlox to the market at full price.

The games mentioned are dirt cheap, that's why they sell better (units). Budget gaming is big in Europe (software pyramide in Germany for instance).
