wow - that looks like 1,3bit? honestly there are better looking free games out there
The graphics evolve the better you play. Like it starts black and white, and ends up fully thriving with color. Check the video.

I'm starting to think we need to go into the "what bits mean" thing again.

isnt that the point of these downloadable services? Make money on games you would otherwise give away for free.
If someone ever says anything remotely similar to this relating to Cave Story, I for one will hunt them down and crush them.

I stopped reading the other thread since it seemed like such an IGN trainwreck, so thanks for making a new one with the real news about what looks like a great game.

- they intend to follow up with five other Bit.Trip games

It seems they want to follow in the footsteps of Bit Generations. I hope they can live up to that legacy.

p.s. I'm adding everyone complaining about this game's graphics to my ignore list.

Looks interesting, but the viral vid was perhaps the worst way to promote something like this.
It is connected by the way.

The people in the video find the screen which is actually the head of a buried Commander Video (Character from the game which you can see blinking at you on the site). Presumably this will be explained in future games. This game is about Commander Video's Journey to Earth. The Viral stuff got interesting too, much beyond the original video. Media releases, as well as email conversations with Commander Video himself. The coolest aspect was the distribution of thin images that when players put them together it formed a new piece of the puzzle. Interesting interaction if you're into ARG's or Viral Experiences (which I take it most GAFfers are not...:lol )

Just figured I'd share.

sorry i have to go with the hivemind.

I can't really form an opinion on the title as I am obligated to hate it.

I refuse to say anything positive about it.

No probs. I just don't think that the vid did its job very well, and the aesthetic and content of the game don't really mesh with the viral approach (for me, anyway).

Looking forward to the game anyway, so at least it didn't have a negative effect!

Despite the fugly IGN video, i'm definitely interested in this.
Seems promising, i love experimental stuff.

Sounds like a whole heap of unnecessary crap to me. It's a simple game, market it as such.

Gaijin Games? Any connection to Gaijin Works, the Working Designs redux company? Surely there aren't TWO studios out there with a name that bad...?

1. "whole heap" is redundant
2. the word "heap" is needlessly colorful
3. "crap" is borderline cursing, way too emotive.

It's a simple post. Write it as such.

If they really think characters and a story belong in this game, I have much less faith in the whole enterprise.

It seems really loose. It's one character, Commander Video. He's coming to Earth. That's about it. There are supposedly enemy characters and boss battles, but it doesn't seem to be anything major. I was talking about the character interaction with the viral aspect.

By the way, it seems that Aksys was the group that made the video.

Also you can check out a higher res (better sounding) version of the trailer here: http://www.aksysgames.com/2009/01/13/the-return-of-the-arcade-retro/

Do people really care whether or not a developer's name sounds 'cool' when they play a game?

By the way: does anyone know whether or not this'll be a WiiWare exclusive? Would be nice if they also released this on PC at some point.

The viral video was really creepy...really did not expect something like this to come out. Still, hope it will be a fun game.
