Capcom’s ‘Resident Evil 5’ drops to No2 (-38%) and EA climb 3 places to No3 with ‘FIFA 09’ (+3%). Midway/Ubisoft climb 7 places over the debut weekend for ‘Wheelman’ up to No4 (+41%) and Activision Blizzard also do nicely, up 2 places to No5 with Q408’s 2nd biggest game ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (+1%). Capcom’s ‘Streetfighter IV’ slides 3 places to No6 (-11%), as do Nintendo with ‘Professor Layton and the Curious Village’ at No7 (-13%). There’s impressive longevity shown in the next 2 Top 10 titles – at No8 is Activision Blizzard’s Q407 ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ with 66 weeks on this chart (+12%) and at No9 is Sega’s Q407 ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ with 69 weeks on chart (+39%). Rockstar/Take 2 bring up No10 with ‘GTA: Chinatown Wars’ for DS (-6%). The only new entries this week are Warner’s ‘Wanted: Weapons of Fate’ debuting at No15 on 360/PS3/PC and Blade Interactive’s ‘WSC Real 09: World Snooker Championship’ in at No39, also 360/PS3/PC.

360 Cod4 is a beast. It's still holding. lol at wheelman who brought that at full price? It's a £15 game at best.

As for Nintendo where the results speak for themsleves. I doubt we'll see a new console from nintendo for a longggg time and why would they need to.

Did anyone claim that the DSi was a revision that is barely changed? Just the added cameras and the dual touch screens are enough to move the DSi out of the "barely changed" category, at least in my opinion :)

EDIT: The DSi didnt have dual touch screens afterall, i am sorry for the missinformation! :( But even if it doesnt, the added cameras, the added SD card slot and bigger screens are also things that i would concider relatively big changed/additions to a revisioned gaming system :)

Wow, somehow this is the first I've heard that both screens are touch screens on the DSi. That's pretty huge!

Doesnt it? I was almost 100% sure i've read it here on NeoGAF at least, since i mean that i saw some discussion about games that wouldnt work on a normal DS because that the DSi had dual touch screens, but maybe i missread something? :\ Can someone please clearify?

No, only one touch screen. Some sites initially (mis)reported that it had two touch screens and Game in the UK recently sent out a newsletter on the impending DSi launch stating that the same (quickly followed by a correction).

Ah ok. Maybe that is where i have it from. I was sure i had heard about the dual touch screen somewhere at least. Thanks for the info! :) And i am sorry for the missinformation earlier :(

I'm really suprised and pleased by the success of Street Fighter 4 on both platforms. I remember a thread on GAF like "Why the fighter genre is dead..." or so way back.
I think 3rd party peripheral producer are also pleased. What would gaf guess is the ratio of ppl who bought in addition to SF4 a pad or/and stick. 20% or more ?

no comment to the wii and wii fit... i, for one, welcome our new overlords... *sadface*

So, has Mario Kart acquired the "crappy casual non-game" status now?

I need to update the memo.

I think he meant that Nintendo didn't have anything ready for launch, Rhythm Paradise is out at the end of this month in Europe.
That's what I figure. But his point is ridiculous; it's, basically, like claiming the Slim PS2 had no launch software.
Not a perfect analogy, but this sort of claim regarding an hardware revision is absurd.

Wow, I wonder why the DSL was so low.

Pretty much zero hype, none of this pre-order stuff was really in place and generally it was just considered a step up instead of a new system. The new body and style helped lots of sales in later weeks (and I believe it beat it's launch week that Xmas).

UK Hardware - Opening Weekends
Code:
System 1st Week Release
PSP 185,000 Sep 2005
PS3 165,000 Mar 2007
Wii 105,000 Dec 2006
DSi ??? Apr 2009
DS 87,000 Mar 2005
XB360 70,000 Dec 2005
GC 69,000 May 2002
GBA 67,000 Jun 2001
XB 52,000 Mar 2002
GBASP 47,000 Mar 2003
PS2 46,000 Nov 2000
DSL 35,000 Jun 2006
It's remarkable how little correlation there is between first week sales and overall success. Many of these launches were surely supply constrained, but still.

Sarcasm?

Anyway, I didn't know PSP opened so high. Number 1 baby!

psp and ps3 both massive launches, but not doing too good now, even look at the gamecube big launch at the time (biggest ever back then) but things didn't turn out to good, perhaps there's a pattern here

Yep, the two lowest openings are the two biggest systems. Two highest are not so high now.

Because 'ZOMG' is a term commonly used in sarcasm, and all the exclamation points lead me to believe it's sarcasm.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, I just wanted to know how I should take that comment.

Indeed. I wonder how the Wii and the PS3 launch would have been if Nintendo could have supplied many more Wii consoles at launch and if the PS3 got released for christmas instead :)

Cheebs said:
It fell quite a bit. it doesn't have legs. SFIV for PS3 does on the other hand.
I guess it depends on how you define "legs". In my opinion, "legs" is about something that keeps on selling. The drop can be relatively big in sales compared to the first week around launch, but as long as it keeps on selling, then it have legs. Killzone 2 has been within the top 20 in the UK charts since it launched (which is about 4-5 weeks ago), and that isnt really a big drop in my opinion. So i would say that Killzone 2 has showed some legs so far :)

EDIT: I added some text.

Less people would have had time to save up the £400 - lower sales. ;)

Hehe, maybe, but it would have been christmas after all where people tend to spend more money in general than usual :)

EDIT: The same goes for the Wii by the way, i wonder how the Wii launch would have been if they could have supplied much more consoles for the Wii launch :)

Yeah - hence the ;)

And With the Wii too I guess we'll never know!

With the DSi though it's all clear - shops got a 2nd surprise shipment on Sat and had excess stock for the weekend (in the UK at least) and they expect to get more through Easter. Great for the shops till sheets AND the consumers.
