The release of ‘Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince’ in cinemas has helped magic another All Formats No1 for EA, knocking their own title ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10’ (-20%) down from No1 to No3.

Sales of ‘Harry Potter’ only rise by 5%, but it is enough to see it pass both Tiger Woods and Activision-Blizzard’s film tie-in ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ which rises from No3 to No2 despite a 4% dip in sales. It has been a very successful couple of months for the US publisher with 4 separate EA titles reaching No1 in the All Formats Chart for a total of 6 out of the past 7 weeks. They also now have a total of five games in the All Formats Top 10. ‘Wii Fit’ (-3%) continues its consistent good form, back up 2 places to No4, having remained in the All Formats Top 10 since the first week of the year. ‘Fight Night Round 4’ (-30%) is on the ropes, down from No2 to No5, while sales of Ubisoft’s ‘Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood’ (-27%) are down by a similar margin, however it only drops one place to No6.

‘The Sims 3’ and ‘Virtua Tennis 2009’ change places, the former up to No7 and the latter down to No8. Perhaps price is important with ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ (-7%) continuing to outsell its younger brother ‘World At War’ by holding steady at No9. EA round off the All Formats Top 10 with ‘EA Sports Active’ returning to the All Formats Top 10, up from No13 to No10. ‘Rhythm Paradise’ (+96%) re-enters the Top 40 at No21, aided by a TV advert starring Beyoncé.

...and I'd expect it to hold or perhaps rise a position or two next week, as the TV ads seem to be in full flow - I've seen that great "Tiger playing golf with the Wii Remote" ad a few times over the last couple of days.

Why, he was not exactly on fire in his last tournament either :lol

I guess EA solidly has the tennis genre in hand at least on the Wii, since in the US and now UK GST has bested Virtua Tennis.

It will stabalise or rise on Wii as people look for extras to go with WSR (aka are bundle f*cked due to game selling out by the end of Sat).


Market must be dropping more at the bottom of the 40 - Lego Battles & Club Penguin DS have snuck in. Did anyone buy Battles in the end - it sounded good when talked about (except for the lack of Robin Hood Lego).

AND AS USUAL MCV RETAIL ONLINE is up to read about the high street in the UK for those that aren't on our rainy rock, and the release lists for those that are. Mostly PC & Wii shovelware - Calvin Tucker's Redneck Jamboree anyone??! (IGN 3.4'd it)

Why would you want to see how bad another person gets it? That doesn't sound healthy.

Tiger has missed cuts before. He has gone through slumps in his career. What he's going through isn't a slump. Even though he came back late this season, he has the most amount of wins. His top 10 percentage this season is great. I think he has made the top 10 80% of the time. The next person closest to him is at 50%.

I don't know, it's a trivia game... Pretty hard to screw that up too bad. The demo was about exactly what you would expect from a portable Buzz game.
 
It's amazing how COD4 is still so high in the charts, I know it's had a price cut here in the UK, but still. I was tempted to pick it up again as I let my nephew have my copy. But I'll just keep playing Killzone 2 until Modern warfare 2 comes out. Don't have the time to get hooked on that game again.

Eh, does it? Virtual Tennis 2009 has outsold GST every single week, combined of course. Certainly quite different than the US scenario.

Edit: Re-reading though, if you mean Wii-specific yeah, its a no show. On the tennis genre as a whole at least there's a battle in UK, unlike in the US, sadly for Sega :p

It was off the charts soon after release, and now it is back, so yes.

Also, an Aunt of mine (who really only play Brain Training games) asked me about it after seeing the new advert, so it seems like it is now getting pushed towards that audience.

It will come as no surprise that ‘Wii Sports Resort’ is a resounding No1 this week and this is the fourth biggest week 1 for a Wii title, behind ‘Wii Fit’ (week 17, 2008), ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (week 15, 2008) and ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympics’ (week 49, 2007). Note that the original ‘Wii Sports’ was only released with the Wii console and as such has never been tracked as a software item. However, interestingly enough, week 1 sales of the Wii (week 49, 2006) were almost identical to week 1 sales of ‘Wii Sports Resort’. EA’s ‘Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince’ has a solid fourth week on chart, sales down just 4% over last week but the title drops to No2. EA remain at No3 with an equally solid fourth week for ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10’ (EA’s second Wii MotionPlus-enabled title) with sales down just 3% over last week.

Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ remains at No4 (+3%) and Activision-Blizzard’s ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ (-13%) drops 3 places to No5. EA drop 1 place to No6 with ‘Fight Night Round 4’ (-24%), Ubisoft also drop a position to No7 with ‘Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood’ (-19%), as does EA’s ‘The Sims 3’ at No8 (-11%). Activision Blizzard and EA are non-movers at No’s 9 & 10 with ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ (-13%) and ‘EA Sports Active’ (+8%). Note that the other Wii MotionPlus-enabled titles are also within the Top 40 – Sega’s ‘Virtua Tennis 2009’ is at No13 (-40%) and EA’s ‘Grand Slam Tennis’ is at No25 (-19%), actually the first MotionPlus product to market having been launched 7 weeks ago alongside the solus Wii MotionPlus controller.
