Sega’s ‘Football Manager 2010’ (-53%) drops from No1 to No4 and last week’s 2 & 3 simply move up to No’s 1 & 2: Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (+3%) is now No1 and enjoys a storming second week with EA’s ‘FIFA 10’ comfortably nestled at No2 (-13%). Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ climbs 7 places to No3 (+63%), fuelled by the best Wii hardware sales so far this year, including a 57% increase in the White Wii Sports Resort Pack (launched 6 weeks ago) and a strong debut this week for the Black Wii Sports Resort Pack. The highest new entry is EA’s ‘Dragon Age: Origins’ on 360/PC at No5. Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2010’ receives the PS2/PSP versions this week but overall sales are down 42% and the title drops from No5 to No9. Next on the new-release radar is Sony’s ‘Singstar Take That’ debuting at No16 for PS3/PS2 and Sony also debut at No22 with PS3 ‘Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time’.

The final new-entry is actually a re-entry as Atari launch 4 formats (XB360, Wii, DS and PC) of ‘Ghostbusters: The Videogame’ – now over 7 formats (including the PSP version, new this week from Sony joining the original PS2/PS3 versions which debuted 20 weeks ago, also published by Sony).

Nothing yet, I think. These kind of games don't seem to have massive openings, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it hold out at the low end of the charts for a long time, perhaps slowly improving week on week. We'll see, though - and if it flops, it certainly won't be for lack of marketing, as it's had a huge TV push in the UK.

Forza 3 hanging in that Top 5, good going!

Ghostbusters 360 Bomba. Still, releasing a few days before MW2 hits = bad idea.

And Singstar Take That is also on PS2.... the advert never told me that!! (Possible Xmas gift for the gf)

Has Pure been bundled or something? Seems strange to have that one back in the charts. Same with Ghostbusters.

No GT: PSP :(

fuelled by the best Wii hardware sales so far this year, including a 57% increase in the White Wii Sports Resort Pack (launched 6 weeks ago)

Why? The GBP15 price drop has had that strong an effect? Fifteen pounds doesn't seem so much.

There's also the Wii + Wii Sports + Wii Sports Resort bundle, and the black Wii + Wii Sports + Wii Sports Resort bundle to take into account...

Not too bad. The fact that DA on the PS3 didn't make the charts at all is a bit surprising tho. Let's wait and see if it has any staying power on any platform.

I'll bet Insomniac already has: Ratchet & Clank: A Hinch in the Pinch and Ratchet & Clank: Twitch the Switch planned for 2010 and 2011.

Stop dropping Uncharted!

Terrible opening for Ratchet... Yeesh.

Uncharted 2 is doing fine for all intents and purposes. Its passed the 1 Million mark and is in line with the expectations Sony has for it.

Ratchet on the other hand, totally agreed. The IP doesn't resonate anymore. I seriously think Insomniac should look at taking the Ratchet engine, assets, and gameplay and making an action adventure RPG in the vein of Zelda.

What message exactly? When was the last time a R&C game topped the charts? Were you expecting this? These games have always been slow burners if you bring historical data into the equation.

Funny, I'd argue that Ratchet's sales numbers are in line with the expectations Sony has for it, too.

They always have terrible openings, the last one supposedly bombed so bad we'd have no hope of a sequel...ohh wait.

Not a good week at all for Sony platforms, Ratchet didn't do well but haven't seen any advirtising for it. Last week before total domination by MW2.

I completely agree with this and remember there was a rumour as such around E3 that never came to fruition. The Ratchet series is completely unsaturated and its pretty clear not many people really care about it. I'd also say the same for Resistance now, but theyre stubbornly locked into this Ratchet one year, Resistance the next mould and its not going to do them any good.

That Insomniac should go multiplatform?

That's what kind of springs to my mind. I have an inkling in my bones they may do that before the generation is out. I just slightly get the impression that Insomniac isn't happy with their position on the platform, even if it's not entirely Sony's fault.

However, it would be a shame for them to do this at a weaker point, so to speak, rather than when they're 'strong'.

I would like to see them shake things up a bit. The resistance/ratchet back-and-forth is honestly getting a bit tiring. It's getting predictable, and I think people are just a bit fatigued with it even if the games themselves are good quality. I think for Insomniac to get the attention they'd like, 'good' isn't good enough, particularly when dealing with sequel upon sequel. I would like to see them try something completely new, even if just a PSN game or something.

Unfortunately, though, I think Insomniac might look elsewhere for a solution - like multiplatform-ism. But I don't think it would solve anything in and of itself, and they'd risk even greater marginalisation (in the same way many companies do in the transition to multiplatform-ism, if transitioning at a 'not so great time').

Why is that? people always try and claim the game bomb but they never do so far all them sold over a million on the PS3.

Opus Angelorum said:
Whether they should is arguable; will they? Unlikely, if Sony has anything to do with it.

I just have a feeling something's gotta give. I really don't think Insomniac's happy with the reception of their last couple of games.

I don't think that's Sony's fault. I think its franchise fatigue, and not spending the time to really create something absolutely outstanding vs something 'good' every single year. I think maybe Insomniac bit off a little more than they could chew with the one-game-every-year schedule.

I think Sony is probably still happy with them for sure - they're exceptionally reliable. I think Sony would want to hold on to them. But I wonder if Insomniac's happy right now and if they're not, I think multiplatform-ism might be a big red button they'd be tempted to push.

It's just a feeling I have.

Loudninja said:

Well, I dunno, I might be wrong, but I just been getting a vibe off Insomniac in some blogs and things that they're not entirely happy, that they think their games should and could be doing even better out there on the market, that people are overlooking them to a certain degree. That their games are sort of slightly in the shadow of others all the time (e.g. Resistance 2 -> Killzone 2, Ratchet -> Uncharted). I think that restlessness might if it continues cause them to hit a panic button - like trying out multiplatform games.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying multiplatform-ism is necessarily a solution - it can be very risky, and actually cause more damage to a company's profile - but if a company hits a period of questioning, I think it is something that might pop into their heads.

Saw it in HMV Birmingham yesterday for £29.99. They had quite a few copies on display so it must be getting a push of sorts...

Surely a platinum version is due

They don't have those Does Everything ads in the UK? They made a great one for Ratchet.

Agreed on both points, particularly the first. Sony need a consistent release schedule and Insomniac want to deliver, to their own detriment.

£30 is expensive for LBP. It's been available widely for much less than that - the original version anyway. I'm guessing you saw the GOTY version at £30.

LBP is always hovering in and out of the bottom end of the charts, I don't think there's anything too unusual about it being there this week.
