As with 2007 and 2008, week 51 is the final published chart before Christmas and this is therefore the Official Christmas Chart of 2009. So, in the final analysis, Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ remained No1 on the All Formats Chart for 6 straight weeks since tearing up all the records in week 46, all the way up to claiming the Christmas Chart No1 (+3%).

The anticipated surge on EA’s ‘FIFA 10’ brought the title up 3 places but not enough to dislodge the aforementioned Activision title, settling at No2 (+24%). However, EA can take comfort in the fact that an EA title has held the Christmas No1 11 times over the 25 years that we have been tracking videogame Christmas No1’s. For those with any interest in this ranking, the No2 behind EA in terms of Xmas No1’s? Ocean (3 times, 1988, 1989, 1991). Bringing us back to the present, Nintendo take 4 out of the Top 10 with Wii titles, 2 of which follow directly after ‘FIFA 10’ - ‘Wii Fit Plus’ at No3 (+9%) and ‘Wii Sports Resort’ at No4 (+0%) were both strong Christmas purchases.

Ubisoft are down 2 places to No5 with ‘Assassin’s Creed II’ (-5%), Sega are up one place to No6 with ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games’ (+13%), Nintendo’s ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ is No7 (-1%), Microsoft’s ‘Forza Motorsport 3’ is No8 (+11%) and Nintendo’s ‘Mario Kart Wii’ is No9 (+12%). Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ continues to delight Wii customers with an interest in perfecting their moves, all at an impulse price point – the title drops 2 positions but rounds off the Christmas Top 10 (-18%). Also of note this week is Ubisoft’s ‘James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game’ which is benefitting from an overload of advertising at present, both for the film and the game, plus the 360/PS3 versions this week saw around £10 off – the title rockets from No29 to No12 as the highest climber (+129%).

Forza sticking around, so is Layton 2.

But wow at Nintendo's top four. Even the two big games of the summer - MW2 and AC2 - can't keep up.

Nice to see Rabbids Go Home charting too.

Well, MW2 is keeping up, just not on the individual formats...

Can't be that much spread in the top 10, since Forza is just below NSMBW on the all format chart.

That entertainment pack with the extra controller must be selling nicely.

Wii Fit Plus must have sold a tonne in the UK. Does anyone have a rough guess at how many it would have sold this week? I would estimate somewhere between 50-100k.

The game is pretty cheap, though. I don't know how many of those sold copies were sold with the board.

Man, Pro Evo 2010 really is an absolute bomba this year. Complete disaster for Konami.

Nice to Forza up (yet again), I think it's been up in sales week-on-week since about week 2.

Any idea of the sales for Avatar ?

From week 49:

Eurogamer said:
Ubisoft may also grimace at the first-week performance of James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. This missed the UK all-formats top 40 altogether and settled for 18th in the PC chart, 19 in the PS3 chart and 21st in the Xbox 360 chart. DS and Wii versions did not place.

However, there's a silver lining for Ubisoft, as the big-screen launch of James Cameron's Avatar has yet to happen. Expect sales to jump following the film's 17th December UK launch.

It feel flat on face during the initial release it's but it looks like the movie's release has helped (along with a substantial price drop). Ubisoft is probably disappointed since they gave the game a disproportionate amount of marketing and coverage for a licensed movie game.

At least people finally figured out the series completely stagnated. People are better of spending 5 quid on PES 3 than picking up the new ones

Big ups for Forza, going well and with the brilliantly laid out 'Storefront' and the community sharing of tunes and paint work, I'm really digging this far more so than the 2nd. It's hard to imagine a racing game without it now. A mate of mine is building a DC5 Integra (in real life) for racing and got a professional design artist to do the livery for it, of which another mate has taken the design and added it in Forza 3, it looks incredible. The customisation aspects of Forza 3 will give the game some serious legs and it's something no other racer even begins to approach.

Konami has announced today that PES2010 has sold 600k+ in Spain.
...and bombed absolutely everywhere else. EA have sold 4.5million FIFA 10's so far, and the game is still riding high in the charts. Pro Evo 2010, by comparison, is on life support literally everywhere.

It was literally only a few years ago that Konami were neck-and-neck with EA, and they've pissed it all up the wall.

... ok time to go for an eye checking :p

I don't understand why did Ubi put so much money to market this game a few weeks before the movie release. They would have free indirect promotion for the game just after the movie's came out.

And a price drop already ?!?

Well, I was just curious about it but let's look at the rest...

Thanks for the answers.

Must of been a fair bit of 360 Hardware sold that week. Both bundled games are still charting and a Fifa bump from out of nowhere.

Since it didn't chart in the top 20 in November for the US, it's quite likely that it has sold more in the UK by now.

WiiFitPlus claimed No 1 slot while selling out in the hardware packs.

Wii Sing & Just dance have also been hard to get.

Shortages are nothing like last year, but still interesting.

Glad MW2 is still selling - it's the game I'm playing at the moment.

Germany is one of the biggest Markets in EU, 3rd Party must be very happy with the sales on that market.

I'm glad that there is not one bad game in Germany's Top Ten and despitevall the whining regarding "the casual games" it looks like Nintendo's core franchises profit the most from their latest success, at least over here :).

Fixed.

They've avoided the Wii this long, and they're probably hoping it'll go away soon and stop shining a light on that particular mistake. Maybe Nintendo will accommodate with Wii 2/+ in 2011 or so with hardware they can easily port to.

much closer then i thought actuality.

Seriously?
360 launched in 2005, ps3 in 2007

here is whats important in the article
"Depuis le 23 mars 2007, date du lancement de la PlayStation 3, il s'est vendu quasiment 2 fois plus de PlayStation 3 que de X Box 360"

since ps3 launched, it sells X2 // 360

Xbox is a dead horse in France and Germany actually. I thought the difference would be much higher, since it never sold really well over there and we almost never see any software in the charts except major releases like MW2.

A very late update from me here with the norwegian chart, sorry, but since the UK charts were delayed, it seems that i made it before the next week's PAL Chart thread are going to be made :)

You are forgiven. For all you did. Anyway, it's the same damn thing as last week.

29/Dec/2009

‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (+17%) looks like it could well see out the year unbeaten at the top of the All Formats Chart as it holds on to top spot for a 7th consecutive week with one week left until 2009 comes to a close.

However, closest rival ‘FIFA 10’ (+18%) is only 2,000 units behind, a non-mover at No2 and has been closing the gap over the past two weeks. As is usual after Christmas, there are no significant new releases with the Top 10 games jockeying for position amongst themselves. ‘Assassin’s Creed II’ (+5%) moves up 2 places, back to No3, while Nintendo’s big 3 of ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-6%) a non-mover at No4, ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-13%) down 3 places to No6 and ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ (-9%) a non-mover at No7, all take slight dips in sales.

A jump of one place up to No5 for Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games’ (+5%) and a strong week for ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (+21%), holding on to No9, means 3 Mario games have managed to stay in the Top 10 over the past 4 weeks. Ubisoft now have 2 Top 10 titles as ‘James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game’ (+41%) breaks into the Top 10 for the first time, up from No12 to No8. Microsoft’s highest charting game is ‘Forza Motorsport 3’ (+2%) which manages a Top 10 finish, down from No8 to No10. This week’s highest climber is EA’s ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’ (+50%), “getting better” thanks to price promotions, back in the Top 40 at No26.
