‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (XB360, PS3, PC, DS) explodes into the All Formats Chart with by far the biggest ever launch of any game, recording a staggering 1.78m units in the UK over 5 days and generating £67.4m.

To put this in context, Activision’s title has now grossed almost twice as much as the entire entertainment software market last week. The Xbox 360 version alone has sold over 1m units in its first week, making £38.5m (which on its own is more than last week’s total entertainment software market figure). ‘Modern Warfare 2’ has smashed GTA IV’s launch week record of 927,000 units (£39.9m) by a huge margin. No other game is anywhere near competing with Modern Warfare 2 this week, as Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (+45%) climbs from No3 to No2 and last week’s No1, ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-24%) falls to No4. ‘FIFA 10’ (0%) is at No3 while Microsoft’s ‘Forza Motorsport 3’ (+22%) occupies the No5 position.

‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games’ (+9%) is up one place to No6 while ‘Lego Batman’ (+107%) and ‘Pure’ (+143%) have re-entered the Top 10 at No’s 7 and 9 respectively, on the back of an on-going Xbox 360 hardware bundle. Nintendo now have 3 games in the Top 10 thanks to competitive pricing on ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (+53%), while ‘Grand Theft Auto Episodes from Liberty City’ is the Top 10’s biggest casualty, falling from No8 to No10 with a 28% decline in sales. ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ is back in the Top 40 at No19 boosted by the launch of a Wii version of the game to coincide with the sequel.

Aye lol we did say it would be a great marketing campaign, the 360 is a mammoth software seller.

The Xbox 360 version alone has sold over 1m units in its first week, making £38.5m (which on its own is more than last week’s total entertainment software market figure).

Wow. ~4 million on the 360 multi leaderboards as of last night this thing is going to kill all week ones before it.

Edit: Looks like the break down for week one is 57% for 360 (1.02 million). The rest of the pie between PC/PS3/DS.

Actually that is the Elite bundle, which is probably not the one pirates are going after.

It depends on the store - many are doing it with the Elite instead.

Regardless, it seems now that if 360 hardware sales do well, it is because of mass bannings and not possibly for any other reason. Well, I disagree. It's obvious that MW2 was the main hardware driver this week even with that factored in.

So much for that boycott. :lol

Also it was £35 pounds at Game which was pretty reasonable better than the Steam price.

What's completely weird to me is how Eyepet can chart while Ratchet&Clank doesn't.

I've seen the same amount of TV marketing for both. But I think eyepet attracts a certain degree of more curiousity and novelty interest. Even small things like the packaging standing out on shelves will help a little (in those shops that still put out unconventional boxes rather than a blu-ray or dvd case placeholder).

If you're getting a PS3 and have kids it seems to be a fairly no-brainer thing to pick up too, especially coming up to Xmas. I think ratchet it's a little less eyegrabbing.

EyePet without the camera is selling at 15-20 pounds, so it's much easier to give it a try.

And people without a camera is taking advantage of the fact that EyePet + camera bundle is in some stores at the same price as the camera.

Where did you get the 57% 360, 43% PS3 breakdown from ? If this is true, it meant that the PC version and DS version sell 0%, which is a little bit hard to believe, IMO.

HOLY FUCK, where is Ratchet? Eyepet is doing well for itself.

I'm glad Uncharted 2 stopped falling (much) and MW2 is a beast.

I want to see the PS3/PC split. With PS3 leaderboards about half of 360 leaderboards, I'd think that the sales may be reflected in the same way. I wouldn't be surprised with 5-550k of the other 700k+ to be PS3.

Yea, I totally forgot the PC/DS stat, but the 360 stat should be on the money considering we have the total cash figure versus the total overall. So the PS3 version should be less. 43% should represent PS3/PC/DS.

57/40/3 360/PS3/PC according to the GI article below.

Oh yea and if those PC numbers are to be believed then Forza 3 likely did another ~50k or so for the week. Having some nice legs in Euroland.

Monty Mole said:
Forza has legs, wasn't expecting that.

MW2 is unstoppable.

Since they agreed to publish all Namco's titles in Europe.

I thought it was more than that, didn't Atari sell their European distribution arm to Namco? I'm pretty sure that's why Sony published the PS3/PS2/PSP versions of Ghostbusters, netting themselves a timed exclusivity as well.

no no it is much higher. If you look at the PC version of the game at #5 it means it is something between 50-100k max. PS3 should be about 600-650k. In a normal week the #1 sells about 50-80k. This means if we take CoD out of the charts the PC version would be at #3 and Wii Sports Resort at #1 with about 50-80k copies sold.

Lots of Wii60 in top 10, no DS games at all. Rest of the top 40 is much more variable with every platform represented... Well except poor PSP.

Only the controversial PC version of the game could be considered a disappointment, entering at only number five in the individual formats chart. The PC version accounted for just three per cent of overall sales, compared to 57 per cent for the 360 and 40 per cent for the PlayStation 3.

Using these percentages, PlayStation 3 sales can be estimated at 712,000 units (with GBP 27 million in revenues) and the PC at 53,400 units.

712k? PS3 version is no slouch.

Lots of Wii60 in top 10, no DS games at all. Rest of the top 40 is much more variable with every platform represented... Well except poor PSP.
It's all digital distribution for PSP now. And by that, I don't mean Go.

Incredible numbers for 360 MW2. PS3 version does very good numbers as well.

But ouch at Ratchet. There has been a decent number of ads as well.

Forza 3 legs are very surprising. I have seen zero ads for it. Which is strange as usually MS is good in the marketing department and this game is perfect for Europe. But still, it's doing well so good.

I've seen lots of Forza ads on Sky Sports. I think you're watching the wrong programmes.

Thanks for posting these charts! :) Could you please list the charts like they usually are listed the next time? :) It is no problem for me that you listed the charts like you did it now though and i mean nothing negative about asking you this just to underline that. I just wanted to ask you about this because if you post the charts in the way that they usually are posted, then dabra might include the charts in his posts, and then it might be easier to find older charts in the future if that is needed (since then you just have to browse through dabra's post in older PAL Charts thread to find the charts :)). It is just to quote one of the previously posted norwegian charts and manually change the games and positions :)

And if you list the charts in the way that they usually are posted, it would also mean less things for me to do (i have listed the norwegian charts the last couple of weeks), and i wouldnt mind to do less things hehe :)

EyePet without the camera is selling at 15-20 pounds, so it's much easier to give it a try.

And people without a camera is taking advantage of the fact that EyePet + camera bundle is in some stores at the same price as the camera.
Yeah, after some quick research I came back here to educate myself about its low price and the option to get a bundled camera quite cheaply.

So, MW2 sales...

360: 1,014,600
PS3: 712,000
PC: 53,400

Looking at them lined up like this, the 360 version of Call of Duty outsold the PC version 20:1, the PS3 version outsold it 14:1.

This is one of those "5 years ago you, if you predicted this you would have been called a troll and banned" moments that are becoming quite common this gen.

How do the PC sales, not percentage, match up to WaW or MW1?

Edit: and correct me if I'm wrong, but MW2's debut week on 360 alone is almost 90% bigger than Halo 3's, and has already surpassed the LTD of WaW, which hasn't reached 1 million copies on either platform individually iirc.

November NPD is going to be insane.

This is in the UK for 1 week....crazy!! NPD numbers are going to be through the roof for November. I expect it will be slightly more 360 biased in the US.

28 (__) WII Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision Blizzard)

Mario and Sonic holding up as expected, and CoD4 Wii makes you wonder if it would have sold nicely alongside the original instead of 2 years late

Not to beat a dead horse, but Kottick was stupid to say he would drop support for PS3 without a price cut. He would have sold far less had there not been a OS3 version. lol

LTD of WaW? The game did 1.4m in the US it's debut month alone, I really doubt the game hasn't somehow sold at least a 1 million on a single platform when it charted well for some time and was top played game on live quite a few times beating out COD4.
