Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ looked in danger of leaving the Top 10 for the first time since launch half a year ago – and duly climbs 6 chart positions to No3 overall (+34%) thanks to some energetic promotions centred around the special edition versions. Nintendo climb 2 places to No4 with ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-5%) and EA re-enter the Top 5 with ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ up 3 places to No5 (+10%). Capcom debuted at No2 last week with ‘Super Street Fighter IV’ and the title now drops to No6 (-51%). Sega’s ‘Iron Man 2’ debuted last week at No20 and climbs 8 places to No12 (+58%).

Also debuting last week was Nintendo’s DS ‘Warioware D.I.Y.’ which enters the All Formats Top 40 this week at No24 (+109%). Sony’s PSP ‘Invizimals’ benefits from some price promotions, re-entering this chart at No28 (+270%).

TWO PSP GAMES!

This week will live on in my memory like some tender dream. It's a bit of a shame they're shit games however.

sin and punishment 2, 11th on the wii chart :(

Surprised it's that high, tbh. Unless you're already knowledgeable about the game you're not going to give it a chance. None of the supermarkets I checked stocked it and it's pretty expensive both online and in Game.

Wish we had hard numbers for MH3.

Launch Week: ~17K (estimated based on NSMB's weekly sales)
Second Week: 10-12K (estimate based on MKWii average sales and chart position)
Third Week: ~8K (estimate based on MKWii average sales and chart position)

Not "hard" numbers, but probably a good estimate.

Curious to see how it does on NPD.

If it doesn't make the Top 10, I'm highly confident someone in the press will still ask for the numbers.

Where's FIFA for Wii?

Statement for FIFA from last week:
"The PS3 version just pips XB360, accounting for 48%, XB360 47% with PSP and Wii making up the rest."

But it's 1 place behind Mario Kart in the WII-Full Price Chart, so it could be anything less than 41.

ouch!

Maybe next time EA put a Wii balance board compatible on it.

Tried out Just Dance for the first time and i now get the appeal and why it's selling so well. Never saw videos or anything, so didn't know what to expect. Would be great fun to bust out at parties no doubt.

Could use a longer tracklist and DLC though.

I was curious if the UK has the Forza 3/ODST bundle or are those new ODST sales due to people buying it to get into the Beta.

Week 19

17/May/2010

‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’ (-42%) hits a hat-trick of weeks at No1 despite strong competition from 3 new games making their debuts in the Top 5 this week.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 title ‘Alan Wake’ enters at No2, only 1,000 sales behind FIFA. First announced back in 2005 and developed by Finnish Max Payne developer Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake also tops the Xbox 360 chart almost 12,000 sales ahead of Capcom’s newcomer ‘Lost Planet 2’. Although released early (on Tuesday rather than Friday) and on both Xbox 360 and PS3, ‘Lost Planet 2’ has to settle for No3 in the All Formats Chart. Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ falls to its lowest position for 7 weeks, slipping to No4 but maintaining its position as the week’s top selling Wii game despite a 19% drop in sales. EA have this week’s third new entry at No5 with ‘Skate 3’ and is the most represented publisher in the Top 10 thanks to a 5% rise in sales for ‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ at No6.

Xbox 360 and PS3 newcomers ‘Lost Planet 2’ and ‘Skate 3’ enjoy most success on Microsoft’s format with 66% of sales on Xbox 360 for ‘Lost Planet 2’ and 68% for ‘Skate 3’. ‘Modern Warfare 2’ (-14%) slips down from No3 to No7 after 3 weeks of promotion at retail. Final Fantasy XIII bounces back into the Top 10 after 8 weeks outside it, up from No14 to No8, boosted by price promotions which push sales up 90%. Nintendo’s regular big hitters ‘Wii Fit Plus’ and ‘Wii Sports Resort’ fall to No’s 9 and 10 respectively. Neither title has been out of the All Formats Top 10 since they were launched in July (Wii Sports Resort) and November (Wii Fit Plus) last year. There are a large number of re-entries this week thanks to strong price promotions at retail, notably ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ back at No15, ‘Nier’ at No23, ‘Lips: I Love the 80s’ at No25, ‘Bioshock 2’ at No30, ‘Bayonetta’ at No31 and ‘Napoleon: Total War’ at No35.

Lost Planet 2 bomba

Looking at the blurb the PS3 version did <12k

LP2 PS3+360 < Alan Wake

LP2 360 + ~12k = Alan Wake

So Alan Wake sold at best 36k? Not too good. Hopefully it'll sell some more next week.

Overall, HD twins really dominate the charts. Nintendo has tocome up with some new ideas pronto.

If we assumed that LP2 PS3 was 12k (which it's probably quite a bit less), we would know that the maximum the Xbox 360 version can be is just over 18k due to the 66% of sales being on Xbox 360 comment as well.

Edit:

Math fail.

Make that a maximum of 24k on Xbox 360. Thanks Szaromir.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue back on the chart? :lol

szaromir said:
LP2 on 360 sold twice as much as on PS3, not +66% (assuming marginal sales od PC version)

It's still an awful sales number for a multiplataform game in the 1st week, even more considering it was released on Tuesday instead of the usual Friday for UK releases.

There was still a couple of retailers that already started dropping the price for the game, this has to be a new record. Will it drop to 19.99 pounds quicker than Dark Void (3 weeks IIRC)?

Awful sales for Alan Wake.

#1 in individual charts is awful since when? It did well considering that is not a easy game to market to the general public.

Platform breakdown:

PS3 - 15
360 - 14
Wii - 6
DS - 4
PC - 1

Seems like PS3 is outselling 360 by a decent amount in the UK now. Install bases must be a lot closer now.

What are you guys talking about?

The text is for all formats. So Alan Wake sold 12000 more than the combined total of LP2, yes? We have no idea what the combined numbers are for LP2.

Edit: Or I read it wrong and the specific text was for the X360 charts... ignore me if that is the way it is :p

Seeing that there were three relatively big releases on 360 this week which all charted quite high and they managed to outsell PS3 2:1 on the two multiplats, Microsoft needn't worry. They're still incredibly strong in the UK.

PS3 was like 1 million (a third) behind last time we got numbers, right?

Going to take a long time to bridge that gap... and it ain't going to happen in the first nine months of the year, for sure.

Probably closed the gap a little bit since the slim was released, but they've probably settled down now.

Wish GAME would release the numbers like they usually do this time of year.

I expect it to be about ~1M now.

How do you get that number?

- Alan Wake sold ~12k more than LP2 360
- Lost Planet 2 PS3 + 360 < Alan Wake
- Lost Planet 2 PS3 - 12k at best
- Lost Planet 2 PS3 = 33% of total sales
- Lost Planet 2 360 = 24k at best

24k + 12k = 36k

Hammer24 said:

Alan Wake>Combined Lost Planet 2

Alan Wake=Lost Planet 2 360 + 12.000 units (ergo Lost Planet 2 PS3 is 11.999 at best or both would be more than Alan Wake)

Lost Planet 2 PS3 is one third of the total LP2 sales, so 12.000x3=36.000, which is the maximum possible amount Alan Wake could have sold.

EDIT: Beaten!

Actually the gap was closer to 1.8-2 million the last time we got the numbers iirc. I doubt that has changed all that much. Although I cannot recall the last time we got them. It seems like January is when they normally give them out and sometimes Sept, but I cannot recall if they gave an update this year early on.

This is likely the case. Oh yea and they did release some numbers last June-ish right. Although I think something was really messed up with them. There are some weird titles at the bottom of the chart. Call of Duty:WAW really.
