GSL S3 Information Section

What is this tournament for?

* This + the previous 2 tournaments are to gain rankings for players to be seeded into tournaments next year.

What's the prize money?

* Winner: 100,000,000 KRW (aprox. 88,440.7 USD / 55,291.7 GBP / 64,972.6 EUR / 90,143.2 AUD)
* Runner-Up: 30,000,000 KRW (aprox. 26,532.2 USD)
* Semi-Finalists: 10,000,000 KRW (aprox. 8,844.1 USD)
* Quarter-Finalists: 4,000,000 KRW (aprox. 3,537.6 USD)
* Round of 16: 2,000,000 KRW (aprox. 1,768.8 USD)
* Round of 32: 500,000 KRW (aprox. 442.2 USD)
* Round of 64: 300,000 KRW (aprox. 265.3 USD)

What's planned for next year?

There will be 12 tournaments throughout 2011, and there will be 4 types of tournaments.

1. GSL (Ran in January, March, April, July and September) - Main League. 32 Code S players tournament and 64 Code A players tournament. THESE ARE SEPARATE.
2. World Championship (Ran in June and October) - 4 representative from each region in a 16 man tournament.
3. Ladder Tournament (Ran in February, May, August and November) - Tournament to decide best of Battle.Net ladder. Top 200 from each region are invited to participate in a preliminary for a 16 man double elimination tournament.
4. Blizzard Cup (Ran in December) - Top 8 players of the year will be invited to decide the best player of the year in a Bo5 Playoff format tournament.

Whats this malarkey about Code S and Code A?

* After all three tournaments, the top 8 players from each tournament, and the remaining best performed 8 will become Code S players
* The players ranked [via the scoring system (later to be announced)] 33rd-96th will become "Code A" players.
* Code S players and Code A players earn the right to participate in the GSL tournaments in 2011
* The Code S players will be playing in tournaments with more money! Code A players in other tournaments.

How do players move about from Code A to Code S?

* After a GSL the lower ranked Code S players will play off against the highest ranked Code A players! the top half from this will be the new Code S players! the other half demoted to or kept in Code A

Can a player move from his or her lounge room into Code A, and subsequently Code S?

* You know it! After every GSL the bottom 32 Code A players and the top 32 of the Korean ladder whom nominate theirselves. of the 64 players, 32 become or remane Code A, the rest are booted out, but may try again after the next GSL!

I assume the big money will come at the end of the year in the Blizzard Cup, is that for Code S players only?

* Gosh no! The top 8 players of the year will be based on performances in all 11 tournaments, 6 of which are open to foreigners. So if TLO tops these tournaments or performs very well in all of them he or any other non korean would be able to participate in the big end of year tournament

Do we talk about qualifiers here or in the other thread?

Either way i think its quite likely some foreigners will prevent each other from getting to ro64 tomorrow, there are just so many that they will end up facing each other. :(

Seriously, Tasteless and Artosis are the main reason I start watching the GSL from the Ro64 on. Most games aren't that great so early into the tournament but those two make the bad games entertaining too.

Several of those streams you linked to are dead.

I think I might bite the bullet and go for paying this season. Is it very laggy for overseas people? I don't want to pay $20 and get buffering every 5 seconds.

Edit: Also, god damn. They don't wait at all for the new season do they?

Depends where you are, in Europe the HQ stream is apparently very very laggy, the SQ stream is quite watchable! apparently in the US the HQ stream is fine, can't say for sure though as I'm in Australia! (FYI for me, HQ I can watch.. but it lags every 5 - 10 seconds, so I just watch the test SQ stream) the VODs how ever... are beautiful

I'm in Australia too. Bummer. I prefer watching things like this live. I might give it a try anyway. Is the SD at least better than the pretty damn shitty streaming ones?

The restreams are nearly always much better for me compared to watching directly through the GOM player, and i have a 100/100 .se connection.

S1 was good, but S2 was absolutely amazing. The level of skill was great as expected, but what truly impressed me was the amount of drama in nearly every round. Amazing shit

Was pretty horrible keeping track of matches in Season 2 (still need to watch the majority of the matches) but will continue to support the GSL as the money is well spent from whatever little amount of matches I can watch.

iNcontroL seems such an awesome guy, he was so close to making it. He was one game away but lost on scrap station game 3 vs HelloPrime, aka Moon, a WC3 legend playing Zerg.

And this is what HelloPrime has to say on his match against iNcontroL:
A. The final match was the hardest. I won the first match, but the opponent came back in the second set, so I was shaken up. Fortunately, I was able to get things straight and advance like this.

Thanks for posting that, interesting read. Too bad about inControl losing the final game. Must be crushing to be so close and not making it.

I wonder if the map selection for today (Metalopolis and Scrap Station as 2nd and 3rd maps) had something to do with the Toss underrepresentation.

The shit thing here is after round 2 they moved me and said I had to wait. I waited 2 hours.
Shitty :(

I assume that's because of the limited amount of computers they have available for foreigners to use. Ah well, I hope at least Ret & maybe HuK qualify tonight.
