Yoichi Wada Has A Plan For The Future Of Deus Ex

Nirolak

Mrgrgr
So I know some people were wondering if the next Deus Ex game was in development in some of the Eidos Montreal expansion threads, and it seems we've gotten an answer to the question.

It seems that the answer is currently no, as the Deus Ex team (Eidos Montreal has three development teams and is planning to double in size) is currently on vacation.

However, as apparently Wada has a plan for the series, it's quite likely they will start once they get back.

Unfortunately, there were no further details on what his plan was. Perhaps they will show up in a Square Enix fiscal call.

Eurogamer: Human Revolution was critically acclaimed and enjoyed good sales. Would you like to make another Deus Ex?

Marce-Andre Dufort: I would like to, but I don't know what the future is right now. I know that Wada-san [Yoichi Wada, Square Enix president] said he had a plan for the future, but right now we're celebrating the success of the game, since it's the first game of the studio. I don't know if you've seen the credits of the main game, but there were a lot of production babies, so I think people want to spend some time with their families and take some time off. That's pretty much where we are right now.

It's really frightening to think that Wada has any power over the future of the series.

I haven't followed Deus Ex's development so I'm not sure how involved Wada was.

Can someone more informed tell me: Was Deus Ex a success with the support of Wada, or in spite of him?

Deus Ex Online.

I'm still bitter that I'm not getting a KoTOR III because EA went down this unfortunate route, so I certainly don't want another cracking single-player franchise doing the same.

Well, he let Eidos Montreal delay the game's release date by two years.

The good thing that could come from this is Square-Enix's CGI staff being more involved this time around. The actual cutscenes in HR were jarring and really rough looking.

Admirable. So Wada demonstrated far more patience and sensibility than most other execs in the industry then, and the result was a brilliant, successful game.

Sounds like Deus Ex succeeded with his support, in which case I'd be glad for him to remain involved.

The mere thought of him messing with anything Eidos does, let alone Deus fuckin Ex, is enough to give me nightmares.

Hopefully he'll stick to what's working. Pump the money in and keep your hands and the rest of SE the fuck away from them.

To be fair though, he delayed it further after FFXIV... something he might have rushed.

I wouldn't mind Deus Ex JRPG. Or some crossover with Final Fantasy series.

I read something about Wada loving Heavy Rain and thought it was the future of gaming :O
Maybe Deus Ex will be influenced by Heavy Rain.

It would be good if they made more games like Heavy Rain

Or it just kinda slipped his mind, as the Final Fantasy Campaign was waged. Nice thing though, of the 2 hours I've played so far, I'm liking it quite a bit.

Despite having my own disappointments with Human Revolution, this really seals it. He better stay the Hell away from this franchise. :(

GOD FORBID he does anything with Thief 4. Screwing up Thief 4 will burn me more than ever, but that's mostly on Eidos Montreal than anyone else right now.

Oh dear god no!

That's probably because he didn't think the game could get the attention it actually had in the end.
With a sequel of a well established brand (especially when at the end of the year it will win a lot of goty awards), a whole different story imho. The team should expect a phone call in the next weeks and a deadline of a year and an half for the next game :(

.
Square Enix took over in 2009, any delay was probably more them wanting to evaluate everything they acquired, now with a new project starting from scratch their influence could have far more effect.

So much Wada hate here. I don't know, he sounds pretty sensible in interviews. I haven't played a single Square Enix game though so I might not understand why people hate him.

But on the other hand it's GAF, it seems that people here don't love suits just because.

The very thought of this makes me physically ill (that's as bad as saying Ninja Theory might touch someone else's series).

I don't get why people hate X! I mean, I haven't even touched X, BUT IT SEEMS COOL.

He's been allowing even more time for Hitman and Tomb Raider.

For all the goodwill DXHR gained in providing various methods of approaching a problem it also undermined itself by making the solutions repetitive and tedious. Try making a deus ex game without vents and crates, try giving us abilities that arent half extremely useful and the rest absolutely useless, and design encounters so that they arent exercises in frustration and maybe you'll get a great game from that effort.

With that in mind, let Montreal figure it out. The last thing they need is any "assistance" from some of the fine folks behind FFXIII.

If Square Enix brings some garbage JRPG bishy weeaboo moe angsty stupid douchebaggery into my Deus Ex, there will be hell to pay.

Now I hate SE as much as the next guy but this type of comments is just silly.

On this subject I'm a little bitter.
Having to watch the fall of Square has soured me on him, but so far S-E's decisions with Eidos have been good.

This post is practically a parody of bad posts.

If they throw Jensen in again then it's a copout and I won't play it.

I love this series enough not to play it, that may not make sense to y'all but it makes sense to people crazy like me.
