All I'm saying is I saw this at a local game developer event worn by a Valve employee.

Marketing guy for Monday Night Combat dev UberEnt tweeted this.

Also worth pointing out is Geoff Keighley re-tweeted the image...may the connections to the "big PS3 exclusive you won't believe" begin!

Grain of salt and all that.

loblaw has e-mailed Gaben enquiring as to the authenticity of the shirt:

Emailed Gabe about it. He's usually pretty good about responding to my (and others) questions about this kind of stuff. I usually don't email him at 2 in the morning though...probably a good idea for someone to shoot him an email about this at around 8 or so.

but but but episode 3 ?

They wouldn't make us wait over 4 years for the game only for it to be another several-hour expansion. Plus, when fans and journalists alike began referring to the game as Half-Life 3, Valve made no corrections. I suspect Episode Three increased in scope to a full sequel some years ago.

:( Trolls

Exclusive? Would have to be on Steam as well as PS3 but it would be megaton enough if it isn't coming to 360 (who and I kidding? It isn't coming at all).

Sony has translated "console exclusive also available on PC" into "PS3 exclusive" many times in the past, though, so you never know.

I'm still of the opinion that the game will be unveiled in March 2012 by way of an ARG, and run on Valve's revamped variant of Source. Prior to CS:GO I also suspected it would be bundled in a "Box" with CS2.

I always believed that Valve wouldn't want to reveal Half Life 3 until it was a technical marvel, like how Half Life 2 was back several years ago. The flaws that I felt with source needed to change, which Valve had planned, was to entirely change its rendered framework (so it streams other than loading at set places) and a few other areas in the graphics department. Source has been heavily modified already since Half Life 2 come out. Now that they have extended their game catalogue and have DOTA2 almost out, Half Life 3 will be next (and it would be nice to see this in another box version too, or how Half Life 2 launched with CSS?).

You know, it could be possible after Portal 2 and the Steam tie in. Imagine that, buy PS3 HL3, get PC version free.

Pretty much. In regard to Source, I'm just going to quote myself from the other day:

Valve have hinted at a revamped Source in the past. I think it may have been in The Final Hours of Portal 2. Basically, they've had a number of programmers working on it for quite a long time now and the underlying changes are drastic enough that it's going to split the code base. Also, for what it's worth, during one of many interviews with Wolpaw, he implied in his characteristically coy manner that data streaming is in.

Edit: Oh, and when Valve recently did some site redesign, they added this:

In addition to Steam, there is Source, our own state-of-the-art game engine. Its sophisticated character animation, advanced AI, real-world physics, shader-based rendering, and super extensibility have helped us create some of the most popular and good-looking games on the market for computer and consoles. We don’t like to brag, but Source is considered the most flexible, comprehensive, and powerful game development environment out there. And it’s about to get even better.

Of course, who knows how long "about to" is in Valve Time.

It makes perfect sense to debut this "new" Source engine with Half-Life 3, much as they did with the first version of Source and Half-Life 2.

Aye, and Gabe did say in one podcast (can't remember which one) about the sdk tools to be heavily revamped. The biggest thing that excited me more than ever though is the guy created minerva is on the Half Life team, and his game design on that mod was god-like. HL3 is going to be amazing.

Don't play with our feelings, Valve. =(

Half-Life 3 is pretty much my most anticipated game. HL2 was some of the most hyped I've ever been for a game pre-release.

Actually thinking about it now, it would make very much sense to not be surprised to see an announcement at the VGA awards. Geoff has done a lot of great stuff with his final hours and meeting the team. Him being one of the head honchos with setting up the VGA awards, he would be able to get them to reveal it there in the spot light.
