guys... what if Valve shadow drops Half-Life 3?

So it will be a steam machine title and on ps6 (if at all) Any reasoning for that thought?
I tried to play HL2 and I was not really impressed. Felt like it fall out of time. Not sure why it is so loved. Must be nostalgia at work. I'm not saying it is a bad game, I just do not see it as a system mover.
Maybe I'm wrong. It was before my time (as a gamer)

I think the episodes are alot better than the main game.

Sure playing HL1 and HL2 today is nothing special. Back when they released they were titans, they really pushed the genre forward and I think both totally holds up today (which can't be said for that many games of that age).

Fear 1 released one year after hl 2 and imo it was a whole league ahead.

I would buy it.

I'm playing HL2 for the umpteenth time right now.I just fell in love with these games back then and still enjoy coming back to them every few years.

For this run, I discovered VR mode, and it's so cool to really be in this world.

I also played Half Life : Echoes for the first time this year and it's a great mod which feels like an official add-on. Can't recommend enough

Forcing people or even timed exclusive for a weak system just to play Half-Life 3 would be the most idiotic thing on the entire planet. Even alientating fans of the franchise for a niche audience, vr was stupid, but this would be worse. 0 chances of it happening tho.

I wonder if it will be called Half Life 3 or Half Life 2 Episode 3. Seems like one of them is about to happen

If I was R* I'd shadow-release GTA6. It would be all over the news in no time anyway. Why spend millions on advertising, everywhere people would be talking about it frantically because a shadow-drop would be crazy. Also would be a lot of fun.

As for HL3; Shut up, you already got both halves ;]

I couldn't care less

Of course you could! You cared enough to pop into this thread and drop a comment. It means you care a little bit 🤗

Anyway, if HL3 is real then it launches with the Steam Machine in early 2026.

Then we'll know we truly did transition to meme world somewhere around 2014 and everything from here onwards is just memes made by memes for memes.

Is that the mod that takes place in a desert and has that super weird ass synchronization of Russians speaking English? Or am I confusing something?
I don't remember any desert. Maybe you mean the first one? This one is essentially set in urban environments and you play as a Combine soldier.

There's a rumor it's going to be revealed Tuesday, but then I realize, if it's a Steam exclusive, what's to stop them from simply RELEASING it?

Can you imagine that? I kinda want them to, at the same time, it's been a long time since I've played the originals, ideally I'd want to go back and replay all of them first, but just imagine if Half-Life 3's release is only days away.
Gabe Newell crossed the polished deck of his sprawling yacht with the unhurried confidence of someone who had spent a lifetime steering both storms and billion-dollar ideas. The water was calm, the engines a muted hum beneath him, yet his focus was elsewhere. Today wasn't about leisure.

He moved through the main salon, past the quiet clatter of crew preparing lunch and the ever-present view of open sea. For years, speculation had swirled around him—memes, rumors, impossible expectations. But strategy is built on timing, and he had always understood the value of silence until the moment truly mattered.

He reached the private workstation tucked behind a glass partition. A single terminal glowed. No theatrics. No ceremony. Just a prompt that represented two decades of pressure, restraint, and anticipation.

He leaned forward, reading the line on the screen:

"Half-Life 3 Master — confirm for Steam upload."

For a moment, the only sound was the soft sweep of ocean against the hull. Then Gabe allowed himself a small, almost imperceptible nod—the kind that marks the close of a long game finally played to completion.

His finger hovered, steady and certain, before tapping Confirm.

Alright, I'll admit it. I don't care much about playing it myself, but I'm genuinely interested in the impact it could have on the industry

They didn't even finish HL2, why would I care about HL3, especially after all these years? And if it does get released it will probably be another VR game like Alyx. Leave it in the past.

I want 1 of 2 funny situations to occur:

1. Half life 3 is exclusive to the Steam machine and Steam frame for at least 6 months.

2. Half life 3 is too demanding to run on the Steam machine.

Either one will crack me up.
I wouldn't want the low spec hardware in the steam machine to hold back HL3 from pushing tech. Imagine if that was their target hardware and primarily optimized for it, wouldn't bode well for the game imho. They would also aim for at least 60 FPS since noone wants to play a shooter at 30 FPS lock.
If the game "only" has good gameplay, i'm sure most fans will be disappointed after such a long time.

What if Joss Whedon shadow drops a second season of Firefly with all the original cast returning?
What if HBO retcons season 8 of Game of Thrones and shadow drops a new season 8 & 9?

I really don't think Half Life is anywhere near the big deal as a franchise some of you guys believe.

If you have no interest in VR, its been over 20 years since the last instalment and the market has moved a long, long way on since then.

Half-Life 3 is the minesweeper of desktop Steam OS. It'll be there waiting for you when you install it or launch the system for the first time.

By tech you mean moar pixelz , right? Because that is what 99% of better tech is used for, and that is why F.E.A.R. which came out in 2005 has better enemy AI than games today.

Still shocks me playing HL2. Shows how shitty modern devs are. That game had vibes and felt like a piece of art. We're still trying to catch up to 2004.

Do people somehow think hl3 is gonna make it to the best looking game ever?

I mean if you take the best parts of Dishonored and Dishonored 2 then you have a pretty worthy sequel to HL2 in terms of art direction and level design
