Shoppers appear to already have an eye on Christmas with another strong festive performer ‘Just Dance 3’ (+54%) moving up from No8 to No4. Bethesda’s ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ (-7%) falls one place to No5, while THQ’s ‘Saints Row: The Third’ (-24%) tumbles 3 places to No6. ‘Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call’ (-9%) on DS is still Nintendo’s biggest selling title this week, holding on to No7 despite the launch of ‘Mario Kart 7’ on 3DS – having to settle for a slightly less lucky No8. EA’s ‘Battlefield 3’ (+16%) is a non-mover at No9, as is Nintendo’s ‘Super Mario 3D Land’ (+20%) at No10, meaning the Japanese publisher has the most titles in the Top 10 this week (with 3). There are no Top 40 new entries this week apart from ‘Mario Kart 7’, however there are a couple of titles entering the chart in their second week of release – ‘Abba: You Can Dance’ (+252%) in at No30 and ‘Zumba Fitness 2’ (+97%) at No34.

So everyone only buy FIFA, COD and Just Dance in UK.

It's official UK is best gaming country in the world.

Zelda being outsold by SR3, Forza, and Uncharted legacy sales has to really hurt. I think WM+ adoption has to have something to do with it, there's no way the franchise dipped that much in one generation is there?

I bought Rayman Origins for full price and think that it is worth the money. But i will pick up one or two extra copies if the price drops to around £10 (for collection purposes, and maybe give a copy to my sister).

Yup and that sucks. The worst part is that this will turn off future developers from trying to make big budget 2D platformers.
Indeed :( I was also hoping for a Rayman Origins sequel, but i doubt that will happen now.

Sadly, I'm not surprised by Rayman. It should have been a $15-$20 PSN/XBLA release. A $60 platformer not named Mario isn't going to do well in this market.

To be honest, there has been a few good good ones on XBLA and PSN, and there seems to be a few more upcoming. Rayman should have stayed on there - Ubi were silly to move it to disc.

I think this is true and it looks like outside of a select few titles that will be the future of 2D platformers. It may not be that bad as the 2D platformers released on XBLA/PSN/steam are up there with the best ever made.

Maybe things won't be so bad.

Agree. Full price for a 2D platformer was silly. I like them but surely Ubi could see that was doomed to failure on anything but a PSN,XBLA affair

Cute how they then tried to tie in BGAE2 fate into the success or not of Rayman a few weeks before release.

Everybody Hates Rayman

Considering the TV push it's been really poor for Rayman. Zelda's also very surprising. Maybe it'll be one of the few times a Nintendo game gets price slashed at this rate...

Mario Kart and Mario Land will stick around for a long time. Huge TV push and kids will be lapping them up with 3DS' for Xmas. The ads try waaaaay too hard to make them look cool and hip.

There was a really cool Xmassy PS3 ad which showed a nice Argos bundle together with 4 top games. Thought that was really good.

UC3 bump is pretty nice. I guess there was a price drop or were people holding out for the patch?

I think it's simply due to the Christmas period, and also UC3 seems to be very well advertised on TV, I haven't seen any price reductions in my area.

Sadly, I'm not surprised by Rayman. It should have been a $15-$20 PSN/XBLA release. A $60 platformer not named Mario isn't going to do well in this market.

It shouldn't have been $15-$20 though, because it is easily worth the asking price. The problem is perception. No one is going to make a big budget 2D platformer again after this. The genre is dead outside of Mario.

Nintendo should have shipped Zelda with the M+ add-on at no extra cost. Zelda was one of the last games I was expecting to flop, but it definitely did.

I was in Game at the weekend and they were charging £37.99 for it. That might have something to do with it.

Same price at Gamestation. I doubt the price tag is an issue though, this is MarioKart!

I got my copy yesterday but I thought it was being released on the 7th or I'd have grabbed it earlier. Perhaps there isn't much marketing for the title?

Nintendogs has revived.
Partly. The hardware bunlde (Pink, only way to get pink*) now means that SKLU is going to outsell the others like 2:1. Then agian I suppose its better than a new SKU (remember Nintendogs: Best Friends was in hardware bundles...in the US at least; which contained the popular starting breeds from the games).

*-Whenever it is without Nintdogs (and so £115 rather than £160) that'll be the end for the dogs.

Yup and that sucks. The worst part is that this will turn off future developers from trying to make big budget 2D platformers.
As get2sammyb said, its consumers perception that 2D platformers are an old fashiond genre and with 2D graphics =$0.99 app.

As for worrying about performance. The Ubisoft business model is almost bulit around selling at budget price.

The UK hates Nintendo games.

Well, actually Mario kart 7 and Super Mario 3D land are quite high up there, at number five and six, whereas Skyward sword appears to have been underperforming in UK though.

IBy the way it would be such a crying shame indeed if Rayman bombed, still we'd better wait for other countries' charts before making any consideration.

Zelda being outsold by SR3, Forza, and Uncharted legacy sales has to really hurt. I think WM+ adoption has to have something to do with it, there's no way the franchise dipped that much in one generation is there?

Or there is something clever here to be said about the general Wii audience.

gamers get the industry they deserve.

I don't think. As a hardcore gamer I no longer have the same influence on the industry I once had. I have not bought Rayman because I knew it would bomb hard and I could get it super cheap if I just wait. I feel bad for Ancel but we could not have done anything. This game would have sold shit regardless. We should be glad it exists.

Agreed, it's actually psn/xbla titles that have skewed peoples value perception of full price games this gen the most, more than $1 games on phones/tablets imo, the difference between $1 games and full priced console games is big enough that the majority of people realise that there is a fundamental difference in quality and production value between these titles, but the line between some xbla/psn and full priced retail games is becoming blurred, you have titles that are considerably cheaper with arguably similar production value as full priced games, it makes it hard for games like Rayman when people expect it to be a $15-$20 DD title due to it's genre/style when really it deserves the full asking price imo.

I think that Ubisoft decided to move Rayman to disc was to get shelf space, hoping that more casual players would pick it up. I can see that, but unfortunately it doesnt seem to have worked too well (probably because many people dont even know that the game excist). But on a personal level i'm really glad that they put this game out on disc. I like to have physical copies of my games :)

Just noticed the Collectors Edition of Rayman is now "Under Review" on Amazon.

Look like Ubi cannot get anything right.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005NXX87Q/
"This product is not currently offered by Amazon.co.uk because a customer recently told us that the item he or she received was not as described."

Hehe, i wonder what the complain was about.

gamers get the industry they deserve.

Show me a gamer that wouldn't support a fantastic 2D platformer.

It has to do with marketing and less about gamers tastes. Rayman has pretty good word of mouth on various forums, but that's not going to show in the face of MW3, Skyrim, BF3, Just Dance, etc.

UC3 bump is pretty nice. I guess there was a price drop or were people holding out for the patch?
It's £24.99 in a few places now, including Currys, Dixons, Amazon and Play and £27.99 in the high street at the big chains like Game and Gamestation. I dunno why it's had a price cut so quickly cos it was selling well.

I think I'm gonna give up buying games at launch, cos outside of exceptions like MW3 the prices drop faster than ever in the UK.

some gaf threads released at similar times.

rayman origins ot - 1,109 posts
halo anniversary ot - 3,863 posts
mario kart 7 ot - 2,476 posts
saints row the third ot - 3,183
super mario 3d land ot - 3,271

even on gaf it's getting noticeably less interest. the game has excellent reviews which should attract enthusiast gamers, it was the first game shown at ubi's press conference at e3, the gaf thread has been positive, it's on lots of platforms, yet there's much less interest from people who don't need marketing to tell them what to buy. not only that but it's a massive bomba, not even getting in the top 40 in either of its first two weeks is much worse than not being as big as the heavy hitters.

Both Super Pokemon Scrambel and OoT 3D and Rayman 3D are higher than FIFA 12, ~4,420

Is the company who created Moshi Monsters from the UK or something? I haven't a clue as to why those things are so popular there.

Also, I'm a terrible person. I haven't bought a copy of Rayman Origins, or Sonic Generations yet. :(

UC3 bump is pretty nice. I guess there was a price drop or were people holding out for the patch?

~£25 in Zavvi, Amazon, Play and Game (maybe more, but I know those for a fact). Hell of a deal for a relatively new game.

Edit - Beaten badly, should learn to refresh the page before posting.

Nintendo should have shipped Zelda with the M+ add-on at no extra cost. Zelda was one of the last games I was expecting to flop, but it definitely did.

My thought exactly, supporting Motion+ - namely something not all Wii users already own - was not a very smart move, I did expect some backlash in some way or the other.

For sure they should have handled it much better, as they did on N64 back in the day : as far as I can recall Lylat wars had a rumble unit in the box, and Donkey Kong 64 had memory expansion in the bargain as well.

These days, going round shops in the the corner of the world I currently live in, I have been seeing on shelves quite a bunch of "Vanilla edition" Skyward sword, and NO Mote+ add-ons to be seen nearby, so if I had to buy the game I would have to look for WiiMote+ elsewhere, and this is total nuts, I am at a loss for words, besides this feature has not been properly advertised on the box for unaware customers.

This could have been easily expected, this issue was the first thing that came to my mind the very day when Skyward sword was officially confirmed to support Mote+, and how come Nintendo marketing managers could have underestimate such a huge issue launching a game they have been developing for years is beyond me, I could have advised them for free if they had asked me to.

That being said, despite being a huge failure in UK, to be fair on the other hand Skyward sword is doing pretty fine in Germany, France, Sweden, Netherlands and Norway, so not exactly a flop overall, although as I have already argued Nintendo in my opinion messed it up, not including a Mote+ add-on in the box that was a no-brainer.

Super Pokemon Rumble. Forgot that came out. Same with Kirby's Adventure Wii. Now I can see why they waited on Epic Yarn.

"This product is not currently offered by Amazon.co.uk because a customer recently told us that the item he or she received was not as described."

Hehe, i wonder what the complain was about.
A customer os all it takes? Quick, lets bring Amazon to its knees by finding poorly described products.

Mind Candy are. They're in Silicon Roundabout

I hated the bolded. I had to pay more to get the bonus something I already owned. Sure TheGames (the then Nintendo UK) were nice enough to offer an exchange for F-Zero X...except I had that too (and it was £10 bomba at that point or would be soon after)

I'm guessing NOE were hoping people already had MotionPlus (how much Wii sports resort sold). But yeah with Majora's Mask same thing happened. Game came out, Expansion Paks went out of stock for months. In the case of SS, I think making the bundled edition only ~35% of the initial stock (as in you have to order x of the standard one) was an error as it lead to retail over ordering the regular verison to get more stock of it (which wasn't enough given its all gone now) which they're now stuck with.

Everybody's talking about the lack of Rayman Origins, but what about Kirby's Adventure (which I personally think is the better game)? Though honestly I didn't expect either game to do well saleswise..

Why on earth are the original Dance Central and Kinect Sports in the chart when the sequels are out? Anyone know? It is just down to big price cuts on the originals? (I'd have thought they'd have cost very little for ages now).

The difference in price between the originals and sequels is only £3-£5 in most places. Maybe that's enough for people to just pick up the originals when picking up a Kinect though?
