Are there Wii U third party games for the launch window that haven´t been announced?

E3 came and went. Many gamers are disappointed with the scarce number of 3rd party games announced for Wii U after a year of silence, and seemingly lack of support from key 3rd parties.

My question is, with the rumors of games like Tomb Rider, Madden and Call of Duty all coming to Wii U, what would the reason be for Nintendo not to announce such games during their show? Could there be more titles being readied for the console´s launch window that are also being kept under wraps?

-Iwata did say Japanese 3rd party efforts would be unveiled later

-EA only said they are working on EA Sports titles. Nothing specific and nothing about timing.

I mean Nintendo's list isn't complete.. wasn't Skylanders Giants confirmed for the Wii U by ATVI during E3 but not on Nintendo's list?

And then stuff that went missing like Ghost Recon Online.

And was someone's resume who was working on 007 Legends for the Wii U (I am just hoping this is still true!)

I think a lot of people are waiting for the wii u release date before they say much about this.

There are many rumors, even Tomb Rider being listed for Wii U on game informer. But my question is why not come out and announce them this week? Isnt it a bit bizzarre?

Ubisoft showed off Ghost Recon last year which didn't appear this E3. It's probably a 2013 title with so many other games from them being released in the launch window.

Ubisoft just confirmed that Ghost Recon Online will still be coming to Wii U, but not this year. It wants to finish the PC version first. Don't expect it to be available in early 2013.

We have to remember that what we've seen so far is considered to be the "intitial" software launch lineup. We should expect to her some more announcements at the of the end of summer. Quite frankly, we have hardly heard any news on early Japanese third-party support . We should probably expect some of the currently announced games to get delayed.

Miyamoto said that Nintendo has been working on Pikmin 3 for 5 years and only 2 years have been focused on turning it into a Wii U title. Most third-party games have to naturally be further behind in development. I'm sure we'll here more news on announced late ports coming to Wii U (some of which will likely be from holiday 2012). Unfortunately, we'll likely have to wait as much has a year if third-parties haven't already started development but may not be ready to make the announcements.

Im personally surprised at the lack of support from Capcom. A Resident Evil 6 and DMC announcement would really add to the Wii U portfolio and I´d say may sell well for Capcom.
They are being a bit too silent.

I also think many expected as per previous Nintendo system unveils they would throw everything on the grill, and this certainly doesn´t seem to be the case. But why?

The new Sonic racing game was announced for winter, sort of revealed a while back too with the logo (among the rest) at the end of a trailer.

Seems like japanese studios are waiting for a japanese specific event to come out of the wood.

Nintendo said they were only discussing games at E3 that were due for the "launch window".

Nintendo classes it's "launch window" as between three to four months.

If the Wii U launches in November, doesn't that mean we have only seen games so far that stretch to March at the latest? Certainly in the case of Tomb Raider, the game is only due at the start of March, which puts it on the edge and possibly just outside of Nintendo's launch window.

Might explain why Nintendo aren't discussing Tomb Raider and several others just yet. I think some people are forgetting just how many games shown at E3 this year aren't actually due until several months into 2013.

I know that doesn't apply to Call of Duty and one or two others, and I don't know what the deal is there, but I suspect there are games including the likes of Tomb Raider and South Park which will probably come to the Wii U, but which we won't find out about until Nintendo is ready to discuss its post launch window plans.

I'm thinking the reason more 3rd party games weren't announced is because they're not coming to Wii U.

That makes sense, but some guy on the bombcast said some devs told him they are waiting for price/date until they decide if they will even support it. :\

But they already announced TANK! TANK! TANK! and Tekken Tag Tournment 2.

Either way, there is an event in the next few weeks specifically for Japanese 3rd parties. Whether that translates into more launch window games, or games that will be further off is another matter.

With regards to EA and Activision, apparently there is some sort of summer WiiU conference in the works. Perhaps Nintendo is restricting them till then? Their comments seem to suggest they can't really talk about it. Maybe it has to do with the WiiU's online system which hasn't really been detailed yet.

The Nintendo motto for this E3 seemed to be if it isn't coming out in 2012, it doesn't exist. Which seems kind of stupid to me, but I'm not a professional analyst.

Any links confirming these?

Thats just a shareholders meeting on 6/28, not an actual event for games. Is there a source on the summer conference for the 3rd parties?

You're right. Capcom has been very silent, but I'm sure we will see good support from them. They have been one of Nintendo's most reliable supporters after all. However, we'll likely get some late ports first like RE 6. As most of know, Capcom is holding its own media event at the end of this month and it confirmed to reveal more news on RE 6 and Monster Hunter 4. However, I'm not sure if that is the type of event Capcom likes to make new game announcements at. Of course, there's still The Tokyo Game Show and Gamescom to make potential announcements at.Capcom committed early support for Wii and most of its games come out within the first year. The RE 4 Wii port was announced in April 2007 and was released like 2 months later . Zack & Wiki's development started in late 2005, announced in March 2007, and released in October 2007. RE: Umbrella Chronicles was announced at E3 2006 (development was "already underway") and released in November 2007. Capcom announced Okami port for Wii in November 2007 and released it in April 2008.

We also have yet to hear about the Dragon Quest X version of Wii U. That is, assuming Square's even started development on it. It sure took its sweet time making the Wii version which was announced in December 2008 and apparently coming out this August.

Is going to be there some kind of event before TGS?
Please tell me more, I must have missed this.

Glad to hear it's still alive

The Japanese thing is from Iwata on twitter, the supposed "summer conference"(in reality its probably the usual conference they do around that time of year) was posted about on gaf by a developer. I'll see if I can dig up the links, but I can't find them atm.

Isn't Ghost Recon Online going to be Free 2 Play on PC? What would be the score with Wii U? Same thing? Because that would be awesome.

It's curious that all of these titles were missing. I'm thinking they either aren't in a state to be shown or they want to be able to demonstrate some feature or facet that at present is still secret...

...if its that some of them aren't coming, then seriously, fuck Nintendo for allowing it to happen.

Nintendo will be the last of the big three to adopt any kind of free to play

I don't think anyone credible has confirmed a summer conference. That is just speculation.

Things we know:

1- Like I said before, Iwata confirmed on his twitter that Japanese third party games would be announced later. Link

2- EA has confirmed they are working on Wii U sports titles. Link

3- Skylanders was confirmed for Wii U. Link

4- Treyarch hinted at Black Ops 2 in an interview. Link.

I don't know if there is an NDA or a big conference or something like that, but I do think it is fair to say we will see more third party announcements before launch.

I think there are 4 reasons possible many PS360 multiplatform titles aren't announced for the WiiU:

1. They aren't in development or not planned

2. They release later on the WiiU, outside of the Launch Window because developers put a little effort into the WiiU Version (higher IQ or good use of the Upad)

3. The games are sheduled for a Q2 2013 release or later --> outside of launch window, so Nintendo don't want them announced

4. The speculated reveal of the online infrastructure for games, games that use heavy online (BLOPS, EA Sport titles) are announced at this event

In conclusion, I'm sure some of the multiplatform games shown at E3 will be released on WiiU, but definetly not all

The Nintendo motto for this E3 seemed to be if it isn't coming out in 2012, it doesn't exist. Which seems kind of stupid to me, but I'm not a professional analyst.

I prefer this approach much more, no need to get hyped up for games that are going to take so long to arrive, after overhyping myself about Twilight Princess and being burned by the game it was just much better how it was with Skyward Sword, I even ended up liking TP eventually, and judging it for what it was, not what I imagined myself about it all those years.

From a marketing stand point I think it also has its advantages, games with long running hypes can get backlash far easier than games announced out of the blue coming in mere months, the hype and word of mouth is just stronger.

Suggestion. Put MH on WiiU.

Put the Map and inventory on the tablet. Have the screen be free of clutter.

*Even I don't know if this is a horrible idea- maybe leave the inventory on the character screen.

The consensus seems to be: yes. Nintendo is apparently making people hold off on announcements for some reason.

I think the reason is, to have more attention on the early titles and not have people talk only about the new 3D Mario or the amazing visuals of Retros game for example.

And maybe if they announce the 2013 games a few weeks before Launch and show a few first party trailers, they could build up a launch hype or something.

Other reasons for Nintendos weird announcing strategy aren't on my mind at the moment

Nintendo will be the last of the big three to adopt any kind of free to play

They have been giving out a lot of stuff for free in the eShop (aside for ambassador games) and it looks like they're going full force with online functions this time so I wouldn't rule it out completely. Besides, they're very close with Ubisoft, so it's most likely they have already talked about this. Maybe if the game is not F2P, it includes all the optional DLC as normal content or something like that.

About the topic, there's a lot of secrecy and "oops, I shouldn't have said that" slips from third parties in the last couple of days, plus the Tomb Raider stuff in Game Informer and (this comes as personal speculation, which I already stated here and there in GAF) the fact that most games that have been highlighted this E3 are distinctly western (aside from Nintendo) and asymetric multiplayer centric makes me think they're going to be saving some stuff for later as they go unveiling more and more stuff about the console. For example, we still have to know about japanese games as already stated, and also about online-centric games (all the dudebro stuff like EA Sports and COD) that will most likely be shown when the online functions are shown. So, there's maybe like 5 or 6 more games for launch window (let's say... COD, FIFA, Madden and 2-3 japanese IPs) and a bunch of 2013 stuff that will be unveiled in Nintendo Directs.

They obviously don't want the 3DS effect where people are already burned for games that were announced on E3 2010 and that are still unreleased like Paper Mario and Animal Crossing (still with a TBD subtitle and no date except "Fall 2012" for Japan, TBD in the rest of the world) plus a fuck ton of japanese games that were shown in demo reels and that have vanished into thin air like Level 5 stuff. Heck, I could mention a couple of PS3 games that where announced out of pure e-penis boasting whose absence would make some cry...

I know Antonz mentioned it, not sure who else.
That sounds familiar. Eh, ShockingAlberto knows I mean no harm if I'm recalling it incorrectly.

More precisely on topic, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for more announcements but something odd seems to be going on.

Apply Occam's Razor to this:

There were no more third party games shown for Wii U in E3 because...

A - ... the publishers are waiting for a more lucrative opportunity than E3 to show the games (a Japanese show, GC, EA showcase)

B - ... the games won't not fit the launch window defined by Nintendo as 3-4 months, and Nintendo says only launch window games can be shown

C - ... there just aren't that many third party games being done right now for the Wii U

COD for Wii U is in development and even shockingalberto suggested Press was brought into play test it. Why hasnt it been talked about is anyones guess but Giant Bomb brought up an interesting point last night.

Alot of COD stuff is being NDA'd for an undetermined amount of time which seems likely til they have their big COD Event again. Someone mentioned an Activision employee said they couldnt say anything til later in the summer which might fit into that timeline quite well
