Nintendo will be the last of the big three to adopt any kind of free to play
They have been giving out a lot of stuff for free in the eShop (aside for ambassador games) and it looks like they're going full force with online functions this time so I wouldn't rule it out completely. Besides, they're very close with Ubisoft, so it's most likely they have already talked about this. Maybe if the game is not F2P, it includes all the optional DLC as normal content or something like that.
About the topic, there's a lot of secrecy and "oops, I shouldn't have said that" slips from third parties in the last couple of days, plus the Tomb Raider stuff in Game Informer and (this comes as personal speculation, which I already stated here and there in GAF) the fact that most games that have been highlighted this E3 are distinctly
western (aside from Nintendo) and
asymetric multiplayer centric makes me think they're going to be saving some stuff for later as they go unveiling more and more stuff about the console. For example, we still have to know about japanese games as already stated, and also about online-centric games (all the dudebro stuff like EA Sports and COD) that will most likely be shown when the online functions are shown. So, there's maybe like 5 or 6 more games for launch window (let's say... COD, FIFA, Madden and 2-3 japanese IPs) and a bunch of 2013 stuff that will be unveiled in Nintendo Directs.
They obviously don't want the 3DS effect where people are already burned for games that were announced on E3 2010 and that are still unreleased like Paper Mario and Animal Crossing (still with a TBD subtitle and no date except "Fall 2012" for Japan, TBD in the rest of the world) plus a fuck ton of japanese games that were shown in demo reels and that have vanished into thin air like Level 5 stuff. Heck, I could mention a couple of PS3 games that where announced out of pure e-penis boasting whose absence would make some cry...
