AMD's GPU roadmap leaks, reporting site states 8000 series for next-gen

Sea Islands will spend better part of the year without the real competitor, as NVIDIA will only offer refreshed Kepler until Maxwell comes along. Also worth mentioning is that SI is the architecture chosen to be expanded into high-performance consoles, thus we should see quite interesting announcements regarding to vast compute and graphics capabilities carrying the next generation of console games. Bear in mind that engines such as Unreal Engine 4 do not work on contemporary consoles, while PC hardware can easily churn out those pixels in ultra-high details

Yeah, right at those prices. If Nvidia truly doesn't have an answer in 2013, you can bet both nuts the 8850 ain't selling for 199.99.

Like I was saying in the other thread. If they pair a downclock 90w tdp version [2.08 tflop] with the 2013 Kaveri apu[tflop gpu]. That would be over 3 tflops of gpu power.

That would less than 200watts or about the same as the launch ps3. It would be amazing!!!

130-160w maybe a bit too much to fit in a console box, but they probably can cut down a custom revision to ~100w I guess and with everything else below ~200w total, ps360 were in that range/higher at launch.

edit: the article reads like a leak or speculation?! can't tell

They can pair it down to 90w for a console part without sacrificing performance, since the desktop part has onboard ram, and other extraneous junk.

Assuming this is true, I'm looking forward to that 8870.

8850 wattage is almost what I'd expect for the whole box, much less just the GPU. I don't think looking at either of these would tell you anything about what to expect from next-gen consoles.

Are we looking at a >2TF GPU in the PS4 or 720? I'll gladly pay a premium price if true.

If it's in both then both otherwise whichever one features it. If the current shots of durango devkit and the examination of its GPU stated to be either 6870 or 6950 then there is a good chance MS may have a GPU featuring 2TF and PS4 won't lag behind either.

how much of this article is real? they're linking to 'leaked' rumored specs that end up at random 2ch posts as the source.

Doesn't ProElite have some inside info?

I don't know. He's not sharing it here if he has :P

But anyway, running with it, I'll say what I said in the other thread - look at the die sizes. They're big, too big. A 8000 series based GPU in consoles would be smaller than these, and less powerful. Probably around 2Tflops if they want something similar to the die area needed by the last PS4 rumour (which itself was getting up near 2Tflops anyway).

You say that but the die size of RSX was 258mm^2 when it first came out. Do you think an additional 17mm^2 makes the prospect infeasible?

If this happens to be true, all the people worried about weak consoles next gen can calm down. All those worried about price might want to ignore this then.

As awesome as this would be, I'm not willing to give an arm and a leg just to buy one of these consoles. If I can get a PS4 for $399 well, I'd bite, same as I did with PS3.
