Are you ready for next gen craziness?

AI companions.

oh yeah GIF

Realistically I'm just expecting a PS5 Pro with zen6 cpu grunt, a higher baseline resolution and better ray tracing features. And if that's all it is i'll be happy with it.

Next Gen used to mean anticipating something amazing and new for the future of games.

Now, I'm just bracing for some awful news like digital/streaming only, insanely high prices, AAA GaaS "system sellers", etc.

I miss launch games that felt like launch games. The cross gen stuff erased them. There was always a charm to the simple stuff that always prioritized one or two of the new graphical features for the system.

Not sure we'll ever top the combo of "SSDs" and "UE5" that we had for last-gen launch.

People thinking games would actually push gigabytes of data around every second who refused to ponder how that would be feasible w/o the games being absolutely massive were a big highlight this past gen. You know who you are, and you know I was right now right? Right?

(the SSD speed is still my favorite thing about the PS5, the thing is just super fast at everything because of it)

Compelling games is most important. On the hardware side all I really want is clean 60fps (not sloppy pixelated upscaled junk like Black Myth) for most titles and for first-person games to be 100fps+ at a 1080p.

Next-gen is going to be a disaster if Sony and others don't push it back a couple years

  • Consumer interest is low
  • the games haven't been there
  • spending power for the average consumer isn't there
  • hardware upgrades are looking meager
  • prices are going to be sky high

Using AI to speed up game development will be the next big thing. Think DLSS5 but on a grander (game development) scale.

Hardware wise I'm not at all excited, as I expect 5080-ish performance level, and I use 5090 now.
But software wise, I'm pretty excited to see better hardware as the standard for what the newer games gets made for.

Even better, to make up for it they sell you "launch game exclusives" that could've easily released on last gen as well but didn't because you're supposed to believe they're only possible on new gen.

Next Gen means old gen games with higher framerates and more raytracing features.

The only crazy things will be the RAM prices.

Nothing to be excited about.

We arent gonna talk TFLOPS..........atleast I hope not.
No one knows what they mean in relation to game consoles.

Now TOPS.......both Sony and Microsoft are gonna advertise their TOPS figures which no one needs to care about in a gaming console dont @ me.

GAF is gonna be talking about which console launches with the most woke games.

The price is gonna be the number one talking point though cuz I dont see Sony or Microsoft eating the costs, these things are gonna be expensive as fuck.
There will be a number of opinion pieces saying "Keep your old console" and "Gamers have been priced out of gaming" etc etc.

Im just sitting here hoping the next RTX xx80 is NOT frikken 2000 dollars otherwise im sticking with my RTX 4080 and playing at Ultra Performance.
