If this roughly 70:30 premium:basic ratio is maintained, and we assume the majority of Nintendoland copies are bundled with premiums, we can very roughly estimate that total Wii U console sales up to now (all models, UK) are at around 65,000 if my maths isn't way off.

There are of course lots of factors that could change that number.

It was a 60:30:10 ratio NLand:ZombiU:Basic.

I don't see why the Basic would suddenly become more popular... but was the ZombiU a limited addition? That could increase the NLand proportion of sales.

It does say limited edition on the packaging I think, but how limited that is I don't know. I just estimated that ratio from Weyland's first numbers post from launch week, if the ratios are indeed even more in favour of Premium then it could affect the number - 65k was assuming a 70% share for Premiums (and not taking into account solo Nintendoland sales).

Obviously its pseudo-maths working from several assumptions, but if it was 65k to date after 3 weeks, that puts it 4k ahead of Vita's launch week sales but in Christmas shopping season. I mean that is bad. Really damn bad. But as I said, assumptions and percentage based bundles.

What is fact however is Nintendo's own deafening silence. Deary me, that camp must be TENSE.

Do they have much of a camp in the UK - or do they just have a few business bods who talk to Germany, farm out work to Codestorm house and send reps to UK stores and events now and then? Their staff at Eurogamer even had one or two amateur actors who had theatre gigs in London... no kidding.
 
There will be many "when will Nintendo release the WiiU in europe" jokes in the upcoming weeks when ther eis no game in the Top 40 - just a with the 3DS/Vita.

Best case scenario is another Argos Gamecube for £99 debacle by the time my hand is forced for Bayonetta 2! Not sure how many SNES and N64 roms will make up for that eventuality though (as if they'd give away HD Gamecube 'remake' ISO's)

Also, as 2012 was the London Olympics, a lot of people in the UK/EU are probably buying the game as a souvenir of the summer of sport.
 
The lack of MarioU is quite fascinating for me. I hope that this will show Nintendo, that it's time to move on with this franchise, when it comes to 2d.
 
dave's relationship with the vita is like his one with a drug addled perpetual underachiever who he's known since they were kids. vita's made some pretty bad life choices but dave knows he still has a good heart, and will stick by him right up to the inevitable one way trip to the severn bridge.

i mean this in the nicest possible way. you should sell the rights to ken loach.

i'm surprised it didn't chart purely based on oblivious parents buying their kids the new mario game for that tennis machine they bought four years ago when phillip schofield told them to.

Yes, I would agree with this.

SMB, SMW, SM64 were all there for launch. SMS and SMG were previewed with the promise of what's to come.

As I've stated before, both NSMB and NSMB Wii were on the market after the DS and Wii were firmly established and not before.

Yep, I do think it was a mistake releasing 2 2D Marios so soon after each other. Of course, having said that, the chart doesn't account for downloads which could change the picture.

Yeah by like 5 chart positions. Anyway, if it does well in the rest of the world I don't think they will particularly care how bad the UK sales are.

Nintendo's stature in the UK appears awful at the moment but to be honest I think some of the discussion about A selling better than B is a secondary argument compared to the general state of the industry in the UK right now.

This chart says to me that unless you're at 50% off, or unless you're one of the AAA annual franchises for the 2 systems that are £150 at the moment and have been in millions of homes over the last 7 years, then the market can't support you. Between the 3DS, Vita and Wii U I think the charts show there's very little appetite for expensive new hardware right now, and that the mass market is quite happy to spend £40 on the 3 or 4 franchises they want every year for the consoles they already own. Microsoft seem to be doing OK with Halo 4 and Forza Horizon but this chart is dominated by bomba's and/or conspicuous by their absence names for Sony and Nintendo, both hardware and software.

I really doubt it given the prices in the eshop.

It's a real shame as this is generally much tougher and more worthy than the previous ones. I hope they don't take the wrong message and start making them too easy again.

I wouldn't really read too much into the disparities between the mainstream and enthusiast sales. Back in 2003 the same things were levelled at garbage like Need for Speed Underground, but we still have a specialist industry.
 
Seeing those results, next year Activision is going to release Black Ops Declassified for 50$ again but with a boxart change and a different name and it will probably sell.
 
It's really shame that we won't see what real console quality COD title would to on Vita =/. Sony really should have money hatted Activision even more and made sure that they would put good developer for Declassified. Now they are marketing crap game with millions.

Oh yeah, I know. Thankfully I'm not one of these people who has to see their new system is selling to be able to enjoy it. Dave will be the same with his Vita, I'm sure.

But I don't think that chart makes healthy reading at all. There is a massive, massive gulf between the same franchises that have been largely making up the Top 10 for a while now, and seemingly everything else. Far Cry 3 is in there on the back of outstanding reviews and good marketing, and Hitman Absolution is £19.99, but other than that the sort of sales that Assassins Creed, FIFA and Call of Duty enjoy week on week is so far at the other end of the spectrum to the rest of the chart. There are exclusive and third party bomba's across the board that have absolutely no chance of breaking into that top 10.

It's a tough one. The success of a few is warping perception for the rest. It's a tough market out there and I don't think saying "Well Call of Duty sold XXX,XXX" changes that.

Far Cry 3 is in there on the back of outstanding reviews and good marketing, and Hitman Absolution is £19.99, but other than that the sort of sales that Assassins Creed, FIFA and Call of Duty enjoy week on week is so far at the other end of the spectrum to the rest of the chart. There are exclusive and third party bomba's across the board that have absolutely no chance of breaking into that top 10.

It's a tough one. The success of a few is warping perception for the rest. It's a tough market out there and I don't think saying "Well Call of Duty sold XXX,XXX" changes that.

in an age of giant publishers hogging the top spots with their barely iterative AAA IP cash-ins, you must be ecstatic that NSMBU is bombing as hard as it is.
