The PoliGAF thread has decided we're fed up with mainstream pundits telling us what to think. So, we've decided to become pundits ourselves and tell you what to think. It's a small but critical change, trust us.

Basically, we've created a blog over on Wordpress in order to share our opinions more broadly. We all thought it'd be nice to have a more central location where we could share our thoughts and link to each other. It's a bit weird linking someone on the outside to a NeoGAF post. No offense. We've also heard a lot of lurkers throughout the years say that they love reading what we have to say. Well, lurkers, we've heard what you have to say. We're just glad it meant our egos could be inflated as consequence.

You lazy slug. You didn't even click on that link up there yet, did you? You want us to give you the whole story before you head on over, eh? Well, fine. Here's our About section in full:

DEAD HEAT is a community of bloggers coming together to discuss and collect all things politics. We all found each other on this wondrous thing called the internet, on a gaming forum more specifically. No matter the beginnings, no one is immune to the world of politics. We liked sharing our political ideas, opinions, and discussions so much with each other that we thought we ought to share it with others.

We’ll cover the wonky details of policy to the campaign horse races and everything in between all while giving you our (mostly) unfiltered opinion. We run the gamut of opinion here at DEAD HEAT, and we’re not afraid to disagree with each other. Our only goal is to get to the bottom of this crazy thing we call democracy. Each post is not an end, but merely a means to an end. It may be the culmination of research. It might be a surprising find. It is often fresh idea. It could even be a question. Most importantly, though, it is the beginning of a conversation.

We also have a penchant for poking fun at the media that normally covers these things, what is supposed to be our citizens’ eyes into our own democracy. In that role it holds a disproportionate amount of power. It’s blogs like these, though, that can bring this power down to the real world and put things into a perspective where not everything is a tie, and sometimes it really isn’t both sides’ fault. It was once asked “Who watches the Watchmen?” Well, who watches the media? We do. And we often laugh. Hopefully, you’ll laugh with us. Sometimes we learn, though, and hopefully, you’ll learn with us.

Trevor
Trevor is a 26 year old college graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Marketing. As a child he was always surrounded by politics, having a father that would avidly follow almost any campaign that mattered. Debates were sometimes a father-son bonding experience. He grew up around what many would call strong conservative values and ideals. As an adult he was driven to find out what exactly that meant, and what it might mean to him now. He started writing fiction when he was young and even self-published a fantasy novel at the age of 16. Though time is a little less plentiful now, he still writes occasionally. Currently he is married and lives in the great state of Wisconsin.

Tim
Tim is 26 years old with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and is currently working toward a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Health Policy. His fixation with politics began with the 2004 Presidential campaign and has grown exponentially since. Today, he works with a human services company in southern West Virginia where he and his wife raise their one year old daughter.

John
John is 23 with a degree in Journalism, is considering going back to school for a Masters in Fine Arts and currently works in the field. While he may be a journalist, John has a strong grasp of the sciences and believes in a fact based approach to policy. He currently is single and resides in New York City.

Zoey
Zoey is a junior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and is currently working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Studies with a possible minor in Political Science. She is twenty-years old and has a job as on-campus A/V technician. She’s a huge science-fiction nerd and loves a good, cold rainy day. Her favorite music artist is Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and she listens to her constantly. Her favorite song ever and of all time, Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Today the Sun’s on Us,” has a current iTunes play-count of 3,315.

Paul
Paul is a 21-year-old software engineer finishing his masters at UTBM in Belfort, France. His interest in politics began during the 2000 presidential campaign when he couldn’t understand why the country was so divided, when one candidate wanted to save the polar bears while the other wanted to drill, baby, drill. He is currently interning at a software startup in New York City, learning what other people think.

Jeremy Fuller
Jeremy Fuller is a Master of Public Policy student at UCLA. His interests include economics, health policy, and sustainability. In his spare time, he is a music and sports enthusiast who can play a mean Oasis cover.

Sean
Sean is a sophomore at a nondescript community college in Upstate New York. Born in South Korea, he always had a thing for kimchi. He also likes cats and political gossip. He wants to one day work in public affairs.

Alan
Alan is 33 years old and holds an B.A. in Psychology and Religious Studies, a M.Div, and is a candidate for an MSW program. His interests in politics began in the 2004 Presidential election during which he was an evangelical conservative. Due to life experience and friendly debate his political affiliation has evolved to that of Liberal. He is a strong believer of pragmatism in politics.

And more to come!

Is there empty vessel?

Also he hasn't posted in a while but Jackson50's knowledge of policy and vocabulary would be a damn fine addition.

EV hasn't signed up yet, though I'd love him to! I'd probably read a blog solely of EV posts.

Yeah, I don't remember the last time Jackson50 posted. His word choices always made me laugh.

I'm interested in helping out with this, but most of what I'd write would probably be rather redundant, given how much of an influence poligaf has on me.

And most of the topics I typically write about for my family approach topics from a very... basic level. I mean, a piece like "here's how marginal tax rates REALLY work, and a progressive income tax is way better than a regressive sales tax for our state!" isn't for the demographics DHP is targeting, I think.

Awesome op, RDreamer!

I'm megax5000, by the way. I'm still learning how to change the usernames on wordpress argh.

Great blog. Unfortunatly this is one topic where any thoughts I have can (and will) be articulated far better by other posters, so I won't be contributing, but I will be following closely.

The Wolf banner needs to be updated to remove the .wordpress.com part now.

After some homework I'll begin writing my next bit that'll go up tomorrow morning.

If anyone working on dHP ever has any interest in talking to me or seeking contributions from me, I am a local level elected official in upstate New York. You can PM me for more information but I'd be glad to help out or contribute.

text is somewhat hard to read. i'd suggest trying a darker font.

I'll leave the layout, font and other fun stuff for RDreamer to decide.

Very good. Definitely will keep you in mind.

We need some major publicity folks. Spam this in your facebooks and twitters. Hopefully for the next election, we will have one of our contributors on the CNN panel :P

10 of the followers on Facebook are friends of mine. :P I'll frequently share and retweet articles that are posted.

Finished my LBJ post. I'll proof-read it and post it tomorrow. Hope ya'll read it despite the President's inauguration. But that's more important anyway.

Take whatever initiatives you want, but you need to do so completely independently of NeoGAF. Not organizing it or publicizing it here.
