2008 had Lost Odyssey and 2009 had Dragon Age: Origins, so it's a tough one for me. 2013 might top them both, though. TLOU and BioShock Infinite are fantastic.

2010 was also a great year:

Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Darksiders, Halo Reach, Alan Wake, Red Dead Redemption, Super Meat Boy, Limbo, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, Blur, Gran Turismo 5, Donkey Kong Country Returns, God Of War 3, Metro 2033, Demon's Souls (PAL) e.t.c.

Amazing year overall IMO and my favorite along with 2007.

Tbh 2011 didn't even have my favourite games and I bought more in 2010 and 2007. But I can't help look at that list and think damn! At all the blockbusters

2010 gets my vote. Mario Galaxy 2, Nier, Deadly Premonition and Donkey Kong Country Returns are probably all in my top 5 favorite games this gen, and they all came out in 2010.

For me, 2013 is looking like it'll be the year I spend the most on current gen games like Dragon's Crown, The Last Of Us, Earth Defense Force 4, Monster Hunter 4, GTA5, Beyond: Two Souls etc etc. My poor wallet. :(

I actually think that 2013 is going to end up being the best year this gen, if all goes according to plan and the upcoming titles I'm looking forward too deliver in the way I expect them to. We're only halfway through and I can already compile a top 10 list of favourite games this year that I'd personally score 8/10 or above. That's a great result by my standards.

2011 was amazing indeed. Deus Ex and Arkham City are two of my alltime favourite games. Plus Dark Souls, Skyrim.. Awesome.

Second half of 2013 is shaping up to be something special too though.. GTAV, 2 console launches, Assassin's Creed [let's face it, the upcoming AC will make or break the franchise] and of course Watchdogs, one of my most anticipated games EVER.

Either 2007 or 2011 I would say were the best years this generation. 2010 wasn't too shabby either.

It just seems like every 2 or 3 years or so normally in some sort of a development cycle we will have an amazing year in terms of the games we get. Right now, I feel as though we are in that amazing year for games in 2013.

This year is going to be for me. Truly amazing console releases in the likes of MGS Rising and The Last of Us, the 3DS really hitting its stride and Vita getting a nice back catalogue built up too. Not to mention two new consoles coming at the end of the year.

I didn't know Radiant Historia was so recent. I finished it a couple days ago and really enjoyed it.

I think I have to echo 2010, due to Red Dead and Deadly Premonition.

That's a lot of rereleases. And sequels.

But sure, Xenoblade, Dark Souls, Portal 2, Mario 3D Land and Witcher 2 really stand out as some of the best games ever. Similar lists could probably be made from any year.

Going back to that thread to get this was surprsing, Skyrim was second. It'll be interesting to see what changes if we voted for the best 2011 game again.
