Making that YouTube [gaming] money: $16M for pewdiepie this year?

null.png

It's crazy how much one can potentially make just by playing games and doing commentary in front of a camera on YouTube.

I wonder how long this sort of venue can keep going, though? I'm surprised a lot of publishers/developers are okay with YouTubers making a profit off of their games.

I am pretty sure this is ephemeral and the bubble will burst pretty soon ,but by then these people will have made more than enough money. The quality of the videos is deplorable.ITs not like he does anything beneficial like walkthroughs or serious reviews.Itsfuckingnothing.gif.

Look this guy up well duh he has over 9.571.770 subs so way that is very obvious that he makes a lot of money.
Almost all uploaded videos, has over 1.2 MILLION views and most of those are even higher per upload.

If you do it right yt can really be a job, so good on all the people who can life of of that, I really like a lot of gaming yt'ers

I guess it's a type of performance. If people want to watch it, that's all that matters, as far as profitability goes. Then the discussion of the IP of the games comes on top of that.

Is he really making 16m? Or is this someones internet detective skills at work thinking they know how it works?

Regardless, good on him. I hate dislike someone for making money and enjoy doing it. Who wouldn't want to make this kind of money by sitting around on a computer all day playing games? Can't hate on that at all.

I've heard of other big YouTubers making close to $10,000 a month just by doing playthroughs, but pewdiepie obviously makes the most since each video he puts up gets anywhere from 2 to 5 million views in a matter of days. That's a lot of ad revenue right there, and I bet he gets at least 20 million views a day. Imagine a CPM of $1.50 per 1,000 views... that's cheese!

how much do you get per 1000 views? that is an insane amount of money for doing a bunch of talking in front of a camera in your own room.

I love that stuff like this is becoming a more viable career path for the lucky few that manage to become noticed enough.

I've never understood the appeal of the Let's Play model, but if you can get those big ad dollars and views from (but not limited to) the lowest common denominator, go for it.

It probably is 16 million. Thing is though, it's not specified if they mean in SEK or dollars. By using SEK, it makes sense.

In dollars that would be roughly 2,4 million.

Didn't Gangnam style make like 8 million last year? if so then something is terribly off with the 16 million.

I assume that this is exposure for their games. People watch others play a game, they like it and see that it's fun, they go buy it.

This sounds like fuzzy maths to me. Though I suspect he's going to be pretty well off for what he does, which I personally find insufferable. Good if you can get it to work though!

I dont believe the 16 million dollar number, at least that cant be from YouTube alone. I am curious how much the top YouTubers are making from YouTube only thoug.

I know the Retsupurae guys talked about this on their podcast and they came to the same conclusion of "The bubble will burst, so enjoy it while it lasts and save every penny you can"

People confused about the 16 million number, give this a read:

It depends on the contract you set up with a network - some offer $1.50, $2.50, etc.

what network do you mean?

also, how is he allowed to make money off of these clips? after all, don't the rights to these videogame clips belong to their respective developers/publishers?

I was actually watching some of his play through of the last of us recently to see his reactions and it got me wondering, is it really fair for story based games to be recorded and streamed for free on YouTube? TLoU is a story driven game and one could simply watch the whole game as it is arguably just as interesting to watch as it is fun to play.
Doing a "Let's play" of a game such as Minecraft or Mario is very different to games such as Heavy rain & TLoU.
What do you guys thinks?

Can't stand any of those youtubers that scream. There's two minecrafters and one of them squeals every time he see's a fucking sheep, cant watch that guy either. Annoying as hell.

But, good luck to them, they're making a lot of money and people obviously like them.
