Five in July - The Ultimate Backlog Challenge

Grief.exe

The challenge is simple, complete five games in July. They can be games you started in May 2013, or December 1997, it doesn't matter, just get them done by August.

Gonna try to do five this month, going to be a tough challenge, but needs to be done before the next generation hits. Pick those shorter games from your backlog and get to it.

My List:

Alan Wake Signal & Writer DLC (PC)
Rogue Legacy (PC)
Hard Reset (PC)
Zeno Clash (PC)
Cave Story + (PC)
Advance Wars (GBA)

Sure
DMC2 (started 2 hr ago)
Persona 4 Golden (40 hr in)
DMC3
Okami HD (at the cat tower)
And...*sigh*
SMT3 or SMT: devil survivor overclocked (from scratch if 3, from 6 hr in DSO)

...and finishing ace attorney 1 HD, im almost halfway done with the final trial

Edit: just noticed you said shorter games, why the hell am i picking ANYTHING SMT

Also i wana beat blazblue 1. As a huge fan whos played the others pretty much completely i dunno why i never beat the original calamity trigger, so that might take some priority

- infinite undiscovery (got to beginning of disc 2)
- catherine
- trinity: souls of zill'oll (12 hours in)
- castlevania: lords of shadows (2 hours in)
- lost odyssey

backup if any time remains:
- Tales of Xillia 2

This should finish my Xbox 360 backlog completely, except for (re)playing some of the CAVE shmups.

I'm in.

Chaos Rings - Android
Mega Man 2 - 3DS
Gunman Clive - 3DS
Kersploosh! - 3DS
New Super Mario Bros - DS

Might as well start with some good ones.
I'm going to finish Mega Man 2 this time.
Nothing can stop me. Not even Airman.

Thanks for making the thread again fellow GAFfer I'll see what I'll clean from my Backlog this month.

5 games while Summer Steam Sale is close seems an interesting challenge, let's see how it goes!

Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
Super Mario Land 2
Kirby's Adventure 3D Classic
Wario Land
Link's Awakening

This is the VC backlog busting month. I should be able to do this even with playing Animal Crossing a lot and getting SMT4 in the middle of the month.

Ok I'll try and join the party for this month.

Forza 2 (360)
Gravity Rush (Vita)
Dishonored (360)
Assassin's Creed: Liberation (Vita)
Deus Ex: HR (360)

Uncharted 3 (not part of my purchased backlog, just really want to play it. on the way from gamefly)
Ico HD
Metroid Fusion
Vanquish
Skylanders Giants (really close on this one, so one of the bonus games below)

El Shaddai, Red Faction Armageddon, Quantum Conundrum, Condemned: Criminal Origins. Depends on what I feel like after getting through the others.

I am already halfway through almost all of these games, I just haven't played them.

My List:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC)
Deus Ex: The Missing Link (PC)
Mafia 2 (PC)
MGS Peace Walker (PS3/Vita) -Save transfer!
Halo 2 (PC) - Already beat Xbox Version, need to complete PC because OCD (ON HOLD)
Crysis 3 (PC)
Saints Row: The Third plus DLC (PC)
Far Cry: Blood Dragon

Update 1: (July 5th)
I completed Mafia 2 (it was pretty good!) and accidentally began a third playthrough on Fallout: New Vegas. While the game is fun, it may just suck up all my gaming time.

Update 2: (July 7th)
I finally managed to complete DE:HR and SR3. I really really liked both games in different ways (beat SR3 on Co-op). Now onto DE:TML and Crysis 3.

Update 3: (July 8th)
I bought and completed Crysis 3 today. The game itself was alright. The graphics were outstanding (maxed + AA) and I felt the gameplay and level design were fairly good (semi open world!). I enjoyed it overall, I just wish it could have been longer. DE:TML was bad in my opinion. It was disconnected (COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EXE?!?!), short, and not very fun. It may have been better if it was seamlessly integrated with the main game.

Update 4: (July 26)
I beat Blood Dragon a few days ago. Not much to say,it was really fun and the music was awesome.

I need to do this, so I'm in.

Siren (PSN)
InFamous: Festival of Blood (PSN)
Uncharted 2 (PS3)

I'm going to need suggestions for the last two. I have a lot of PS+ games to get through, and there's also Uncharted 3. But I'm struggling to stay interested in 2, so I'll probably leave that for next month. Choices:
Hydrophobia: Prophecy (partial - played some, but don't even have powers yet)
Renegade Ops
Darksiders (probably played about half)
Machinarium
Red Dead Redemption (got to Mexico)
Scott Pilgrim
Okami HD
Sleeping Dogs (near the end)
Catherine
Hitman Absolution
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Shadow of the Colossus (if it's as bad as Ico, forget it)
Binary Domain (partial, maybe half)

Persona 3 Portable (50hrs in)
Vanquish
Dokuro
Final Fantasy XIII-2
Bioshock 2

This seems do-able. May try to fit a 6th game in though. Really need to start cracking down on my PS3 backlog.

I did absolutely shitty in June, but at least I have an excuse! (wedding stuff) Outside of the 4th, this month is entirely open for me so I hope to get some games hammered out.

My games for July...

Sleeping Dogs - Xbox 360
Dishonored - Xbox 360
The Last of Us - PlayStation 3
God of War HD Collection - PlayStation 3
Wolfenstein - Xbox 360

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
Half Life 2 (PC)
Half Life 2 Episode 1 (PC)
Half Life 2 Episode 2 (PC)
Rayman Origins (Vita)

1st world problem - I'm drowning in really good games.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
Half Life 2 (PC)
Half Life 2 Episode 1 (PC)
Half Life 2 Episode 2 (PC)
Rayman Origins (Vita)

1st world problem - I'm drowning in really good games.

You stole most of my games!

Anyways:

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
Half Life 2 (PC)
Rayman Origins (PC)
Rochard (nearly done on PS3 but will probably start over on PC)
Bastion (PC)

I'm in:

The Last of Us (PS3) [It's the game I'm currently playing, does it count as backlog?]
Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
L.A Noire (PS3)
Rayman Origins (PS3)
The Walking Dead (PC)

Beating five games in a month is normally not a problem for me, but right now I'm mostly playing RPGs. I think I'm going to try to complete these:

• Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP on my Vita)
• Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (PS3)
• Afrika (PS3)
• Catherine (PS3)
• ZombiU (Wii U)

I'm up for this! Not sure what games I'll pick yet, though.

I really ought to get a PS2 again - I've had Devil May Cry 3 for years and not been able to play it since selling my old PS2. I also found my old save file for Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life where I was halfway through the game, so that should be pretty easy to blaze through. Plus I'll have Nintendoland and NSMBU to complete in the next week (finally getting myself a Wii U!)

Other than that? Not sure. I'll make it work.

I failed hardcore last time I tried this a few months ago, but the next gen drums are getting louder.... so lets try this again.

1/ Fire Emblem 3DS - 2 chapters from the end.
2/ Injustice (360)- Story mode should be fairly quick
3/ X-COM (PS3) - Dat PS+
4/ Assassin's Creed (PS3)- Interested in IV so I guess I have to start the series.
5/ Infamous (PS3) - Interested in Second Son so like above....

Uncharted 2
Bioshock
Infamous
dot Hack 1
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

Chaos Theory is so amazing, I beat that one earlier in the year.

I am already halfway through almost all of these games, I just haven't played them.

My List:
Deus Ex Human Revolution (PC)
Deus Ex: The Missing Link (PC)
Mafia 2 (PC)
Halo 2 (PC) - Already beat Xbox Version, need to complete PC because OCD
MGS Peace Walker (PS3/Vita) -Save transfer!
Crysis 3 (PC) if I grab it during the Amazon sale. If I do I will put it at top priority.

You might want to wait on Halo 2 for a little bit, there is a good amount of evidence showing a Steam version is coming fairly soon. Just so you don't have to deal with GFWL.

I'm excited to be able to playthrough that game once again as well.

There is a good chance you will burn out before IV is released if you just burn through the series.

The games are so repetitive and the gameplay is so shallow, I would suggest just playing through them slowly, the games will only get cheaper as time goes by.

Ok, let's do this.

Assassin's Creed 1 (PC)
Hyperdimension Neptunia (PS3)
Infamous 1 (PS3)
Max Payne 3 (PC)
Remember Me (PC)

I honestly think I'll fail on Neptunia. :D

Three I'm in the midst of:

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Replay, towards the end of case 4)
Call of Duty 2 (It's hopping between the campaigns a bit but I believe I'm three missions - about seven/eight levels - from the end)
Cthulhu Saves The World (Only just begun. Arrived in Dunwitch.)

I'm going to pencil in a bit of a pseudo-game, too, as one of my entries: if the Steam Sale hits this month and if it includes achievement challenges as happened a few years back (but I note haven't happened in recent years, so this may never happen!), then I'm going to count 'participating in those' as one of my games, since it will take up a bunch of my playtime.

That leaves one more. Not really sure what to go with currently.

So much this. Even playing two of those games in a row gave me a major AC burnout.

This month:

Pandora's Tower
Blazing Souls: Accelate
Riveria
Growlanser : Wayfarer of Time
Final Fantasy : The 4 Heroes of Light

PSP month it is! Mostly

Previous months non beaten:

Tales of the Abyss
Ragnarok Odyssey
Persona 2: Innocent Sin
Advance Wars: Dark Conflict
Last Remant
Lunar Genesis

Just a reminder to myself if those 5 games are beaten.

Currently playing Hitman Absolution (360), about 70% done, think I'll finish it tomorrow.

Here's my list for July;

NeverDead (360, will be interesting to see just how frustrating it is)

Split/Second (360, got it hella cheap from Zavvi, let's go AI rubber-banding)

Far Cry 3 (360, let's go tribal tits)

DJ Hero 2 (360, got this and the turntable for 20£ free shipping from crazy ass Zavvi)

Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012 (360, as close as I can get to a new burnout game)

Should be a cake walk

1.Lego Batman (40%)
2.Gears of War (Act 3)
3.Remember Me (Haven't Started)
4.CSI Hard Evidence (Haven't Started)
5.Lost Odyssey (Disc 1)

I usually don't join these because I'm so bad when it comes to finishing games but what the heck, here it goes:

(*) - Those I already started.

  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC)
  • Deus Ex: The Missing Link (PC)
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown (PC) *
  • The Witcher (PC) *
  • Tomb Raider (PC)

Bonus Round: The Witcher 2 (PC)

I got four weeks off from work this month! I was hoping to accomplish more than just five, but here they are.

-Forza Horizon (75% complete)
- Uncharted 2 ( Act 3 )
- Halo 4
- Assassin's Creed II ( 40 %)
- The Last of Us (Barely started)

I will try-

Luigi's Mansion
Luigi's Mansion 2 (I've never played the original and I REFUSE to jump into a new series with the sequel)
Yager
Shinobi (3DS)
Ratchet Deadlocked

Haven't started any of them. I never start a game that I don't intend to finish before moving on.

Ok then. I have a huge backlog so I have to do this!

1.Mark of the Ninja
2.Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice
3.Luigi's Mansion 2
4.Super Mario Galaxy 2
5.Red Read Redemption: Undead Nightmare

The challenge is being able to do any significant progress on any of those having Animal Crossing New Leaf on my pocket. At least I am on the last phases of Mark of the Ninja and Galaxy 2, so maybe I can finish those this week. I also don't have to start any of others so I' adding Yakuza 3 as extra bonus. If I finish that one long before the end of the challenge I may add Yakuza 4.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk. 2
Hyperdimension Neptunia V

... then, either jump back into the Ratchet and Clank HD trilogy or try out some Jak trilogy.

Tomb Raider PS3
Dishonored PS3

Luigis Mansion 2
Hitman Contracts HD PS3
Unfinished Swan PS3

Tomb Raider was great, really enjoyed it, bargain for 20 bucks from the e3 psn sale :)

Here's what i'm planning-

The Last of Us
Grand Theft Auto IV- The Lost and The Damned
Ico
Spyro the Draon
Beyond Good & Evil

Just started The Last of Us and no more and the end of June, so hoping to finish it here. Ico and BG&E are replays but they're the HD versions here. Counting the GTA DLC as a game- don't know how to categorise it, either way, it needs completing.

Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker

In the event I get totally sick of Metal Gear Solid, Infamous 2, Uncharted 2 and Demons Souls might join the party.

Let's see. I hope I'm able to go through with these games this time:

Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Little King's Story (Wii)
Guacamelee (Vita)
Persona 3 Portable

Bioshock Infinite
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Uncharted 3
Thomas Was Not Alone
Sleeping Dogs

I think that should provide a bit of diversity throughout the month.

Such a huge backlog, had to take some time to think about it. I'm quite sure that I wont be able to finish all 5 titles as I will also be wasting alot of time on 3ds games like AC:NL and FE:A.

- 9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors
- Layton and the Last Specter
- Shadows of the Colossus
- Bioshock (have had it for ages and never got further than few hours in, want to get through the series so I can play Infinite)
- The Last of Us (not truly a backlog game but if my brother is done with it soon enough I know I will be finishing this one before the month is over)

Ok, I'm in. Going to try for (provided I don't spend all my time playing Dota 2):

- Deadpool (PC)
- Mark of the Ninja (PC)
- Metro: Last Light (PC)
- Hotline Miami (Vita)
- Magic: The Gathering 2013 (PC)

Should be a realistic target based on my current available time (fingers crossed)

Did great in June. Here's my list:

Little King's Story (Wii)
Dishonored (Xbox 360)
Batman: Arkham City (Xbox 360)
Steam game with trading cards #1 (PC)
Steam game with trading cards #2 (PC)

I really need to go through mine... I think I've only actually finished like 5 or 6 games this year, including replays. I get so sidetracked.

PS3 - MGS4 (replaying series, started a while ago but never finished)
Vita - MGS Peacewalker (only mgs I haven't played)
DS - 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (been meaning to get to this for a while)
Vita - Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (same as above since it's a sequel)
PC - Mirror's Edge maybe?

Of course, while trying all this, I'm taking two labor intensive summer classes, and trying to get work done on my own game that needs to be finished in less than 5 months (including box-art etc.) so I'll be lucky if I can finish an MGS. :P
