Sochi Olympic Men's Hockey Fantasy Pool

I brought up the idea of an Olympic hockey pool for the Sochi Olympic men's hockey tournament in the NHL February OT and 14 other GAF members were interested. It was originally going to be a draft-style league. But with that many participants, a few of us decided to let everybody pick whoever they want. Feel free to participate even if you were not one of the people who originally showed interest. Team entries for the pool are no longer accepted. Good luck!

  • 6 forwards, 3 defensemen per team. No goalies.
  • Points-based. 1 goal is equal to 1 point. 1 assist is equal to 1 point.
  • Team with most points at the end of the Olympic tournament wins.
  • 1st tiebreaker: most goals
  • 2nd tiebreaker: most players on Gold-medal winning team
  • 3rd tiebreaker: most players on Silver-medal winning team
  • Free entry and no prizes.
  • 1 team entry per GAF member. Post in this thread your team entry. Feel free to edit your team entry until a deadline Tuesday, February 11, 2014 11:59PM EST.
  • I will enter the teams at that deadline into http://onlinepools.com/hockey/index.php for stat-tracking. If that site is not satisfactory, I can also track the points manually using a Google spreadsheet.

I'm not sure why, but I just get the sense that most of the teams here will get much offense from the defencemen. Like Russia, their PP doesn't hinge on shots from the point nearly as much as Canada's will. Just a hunch.

I feel like we all have VERY similar defensemen :lol. Offense has at least SOME variety. I'd vote extending the roster to more players to introduce some more variety, since then we'll be picking more "sleeper" picks.

Yeah, I'm not sure what a good roster size would be. There is going to be so many players with 3-5 points and only a few with 7-10 points. A smaller roster size means the winner has to pick most of those players in the top of the scoring race. A larger roster size would mean more variety, but I'm not sure if it's necessary. Feel free to suggest a roster size. I would have to PM everybody who has made a team entry if we change the size.

I have a feeling Kovalchuk will be on the point on PP's for Russia like he has done previously in the NHL.
