Comes from a Nintendo of America PR :

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nintendo is offering players the opportunity to nearly double the amount of content they can play in the Mario Golf: World Tour game, which launches May 2 for the portable Nintendo 3DS system. With 10 courses and 126 holes (an amount equivalent to previous games in the franchise), extensive multiplayer modes as well as regional and worldwide tournaments, the main game offers plenty of content for golf fans already. But players who can’t get enough golf and want to expand their experiences can purchase up to a total of 108 new downloadable holes and additional Mushroom Kingdom golfers. The DLC opens up further challenging courses for players to enjoy as they test their skills (broadband Internet access is required).

“We’re letting fans expand their experience with Mario Golf: World Tour,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Some players might be content hitting the links on the numerous courses already included with the game, while others will appreciate the option of being able to add to their fairway fun with new courses and characters.”

The downloadable content for the game will be released in three separate packs: the Mushroom Pack launching on May 2, the Flower Pack launching later in May and the Star Pack launching in June. Each pack includes two new 18-hole courses and a new playable character. Players will receive Toadette with the Mushroom Pack, Nabbit with the Flower Pack and Rosalina with the Star Pack.

Each pack will be available for $5.99 from Toad’s Booth, which can be found in the main menu of the game. Mario Golf: World Tour owners who know they want to buy all three add-on packs can buy a Season Pass at a discounted rate of $14.99 starting May 2. Season Pass holders will get access to each new pack as it becomes available, and will receive a special bonus of Gold Mario as a playable character at the time of purchase. Gold Mario has a special Golden Flower shot that gains coins for every yard it travels. For those who purchase all three packs individually, Gold Mario will also be available once all packs have been released. Nintendo will also offer Trial Tournaments for consumers interested in trying out a sample of the downloadable courses before deciding to purchase. Consumers who own the game and download the Trial Pack will be able to participate in these online tournaments.

US price : 5.99$/pack, 14.99$ for the season pass
UK price : 5.39£/pack, 10.79£ for the season pass

Nintendo doing a Season Pass? Never thought I'd see the day. Pretty interesting.

Also, I was wondering where Rosalina was, now I see.

Still. Nifty!

Bleh, Nintendo please don't do this. You were doing so great with the DLC on most of your games, no point falling into the season pass hellhole now after staying away from it for so long...

$15 for 6 courses, 106 holes (so nearly doubling the amount of holes in the game) and 3 characters. Good deal.

edit - DLC trial tournaments too. Great way to see if the new courses are worth it.

Hey, people wanted Nintendo to embrace the internet and the way other companies were doing things now...

Be careful what you wish for.

I could think of worse Nintendo games that could use DLC. This is neat.

A Mario sports game that has a good longevity is always welcome.

Nintendo has lost a little bit of its soul today.

Who the fuck am I kidding its a business they don't have a soul they just want money

it begins......

I'll buy a season pass for Mario kart if it gets announces, do all the retro stages B^)

is the demo for Mario Golf still not available for USA eshop? I wanna at least try it

hey, at least we get to know what the season pass is for before we're asked to pay for it?

still, not only day 1 DLC, but three packs coming out so soon after release is a bit urgh for me. But the unlockable characters...

fuckers. I hope Nintendo don't ever speak with Team Ninja. They could completely DoA their character based games and earn an absolute fortune.

Don't understand the bitching about the season pass tbh. It's just a discounted collection of the three packs, not like those bullshit ones that only vaguely define the nature of the content or only include some of the dlc.

Can't say I expected this. I guess this kind of DLC makes the most sense in a sports game. More course if you want something new. The DLC doubles the number of course.

Also, the OP should be adjusted, it is 2 courses of 18-holes per pack not 1.

I think it goes up today.

As for the pricing and the use of DLC, it seems totally reasonable to me. I mean, it's $15 for essentially a new full game of courses.

I wonder if the Gold Mario character is particularly important with that shot that gains coins (and what do the coins do?), or if every character has something comparable.

If this works out for Mario Golf I wouldn't be surprised if we see something similar for Mario Kart for new tracks/ characters.

ITT: Nintendo fans realize that their favourite company is just like everyone else and is trying to make money by piecemealing their content.

That said...it's a shitload of content for $15 and I'm a big fan of the series, so I'll bite.

I don't know... it seems like a lot of posts here aren't even interested in discussing the value of each pack vs the value of the season pass itself.

Basically this. People want cheaper games, welp its $10 cheaper but with an additional 108 holes and 3 characters for $15 more.

If you bitched about Nintendo games being too expensive, this is on you. Welcome to the future you created.

They also had a "season pass" for the Mii Plaza games. Buy them separately for $5 each, or $15 for all 4. Get a discount for buying in bulk. No big deal...

On the one hand I don't liek this. At all.

On the other, like others have said, I'll throw money at them hard if they offer something similiar for more courses in MK8

Edit: Seeing as it's a bit cheaper than normal, while maintaining the same content as previous entries, makes it a bit better.

Just a few days ago some posters were praising Nintendo because they didn't do micro transactions and season passes. Well. Nintendo finally stepping up. Smart move.

So based on this, is Smash Bros stages and DLC characters pretty much confirmed? Depending on how good they are I might be tempted to buy some (especially if they are Zelda, Metroid or some ridiculously Niche series related - Captain rainbow et al)
