How were the finalists chosen?

Seems kind of random

"This guy is awesome at random game"
"This girl has 10000 posts on a message board"
"This guy has over 100 platinums"
"This girl can is better at video games then her sons"
"This guy waited in line 20 hours to be the first to own a PS4"

#1 and #5 at least seem like legit criteria. Being #1 at something and winning a tournament, being first in line for the PS4. The other candidates criteria probably apply to several people. Hell 100 platinum's probably applies to thousands.
