What is GOG? 100% DRM free games of the past and present available for Windows and Mac. Pay a few bucks, download an installer and play!
Thread info pt 1: Above: Links to GOG.com, GOG's forums, Recommended games by GAF members, MRORANGE's thread of PC gaming threads.
Thread info pt 2: Below: GOG's recent releases (current/past month), followed by a section of quotes for any of the recommended recent releases.
Past yearly threads: 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010

GOG, now on Linux! Seems to be the defining news from the prior month, launching on Linux a little earlier than planned. If things go as scheduled we may see the
launch of GOG Galaxy at the end of this month. Seems to be more happens around GOG than I realized each month. As for the banner art above, Divinity: Original Sin
wins the month, due to the unbelievably positive impressions from those who've played it. A small tick upward for the counter of recommended games as well! :)

Witcher Adventure Game Beta (GOG) -- MB-91D724F58BF566B2

Great updates, I should really get indigo prophecy for GOG Galaxy whenever it hits.

It's been available for years if I remember correctly. It is on sale right now as well for $1.79.

http://www.gog.com/game/fahrenheit_indigo_prophecy

Cognition is now a GOTY Edition and is $9.99 until next Thursday, then it's $14.99 after that.
http://www.gog.com/news/game_update_price_drop_cognition_goty_edition
I was surprised by how much I liked this game, would totally play a follow-up. The whole psychic link between the two characters was a fun aspect. I'd rate it much higher compared to similar games like Secret Files 1 & 2.

Nice, I've been meaning to finish this game...I should do that. I keep adding games to my backlog and I can't keep up.

Can anyone recommend some adventure games that would work on an old laptop with an integrated intel graphics card? It doesn't have open gl 3.0 it can't handle games that require shader 3.0 like cognition.

Anything between 2006-2012 and sometimes 2014 should work. TWD season 1 works.

If you like disturbing horror adventure games, Sanitarium is worth a try.

thanks for new thread.
I echo MRORANGE - indigo prophecy pls

See Persona7's post above! It's been out for a while. :)

Going off the recommended games listing linked in the OP above, the standouts to me are:
- Another World (classic adventure, very short and unforgiving, and quite different from your typical point and click.
- Blackwell Bundle / Epiphany (this can be a little hit or miss with people, starts slow but picks up a lot for most people)
- Clive Barker's Undying (errs more on the side of FPS, but has a haunted adventure feel to it)
- Gabriel Knight series (all of them are unique and recommended, classic sierra adventures)
- Gray Matter (I think this could run, it also feels like a classic sierra adventure)
- Journeyman Project series (more classic FMV adventure gaming / puzzle solving)
- Realms of the Haunting (another classic eerie FPS-esque adventure game that comes highly recommended)
- Myst series (Myst & Riven particularly, renowned puzzle adventure games)
- Tex Murphy series (newest one may not run, but all the older ones listed are classic FMV adventures worth playing)

You can find impressions from neogaf members of the above games from the Recommended games link at the top of the banner in the OP. If nothing there fits the bill, there's plenty more on GOG that hasn't made it to the recommended games list yet, like for instance Sanitarium, a bit of a twisted adventure game that has an interesting story / world to it which people find generally quite entertaining (except for the VA). I've seen Ben There, Dan That!/Time Gentlemen, Please! recommended a few times in this thread, along with Sam n Max Season 3 if that runs.

There's also the Adventure Gaming thread too, which you may have better luck in.

Along with Minsc's recommendations, I'd throw the Broken Sword series out there, especially the early ones. I haven't played Serpent's Curse yet but it seems to be faithful to the series. The only one I don't recommend is #4: The Angel of Death, mostly because of the annoying mob characters and pitiful ending
if you can even call that an ending
.

Has anyone dipped their toe in the Witcher card game? I've looked at the tutorial but have yet to play it.

I want to like it, but card games seem like the antithesis of fun to me.

I recommend the Longest Journey. It is a very big, grand adventure that I found to be a lot of fun. Just watch out for its sequel, Dreamfall, which is a major bummer.

I would also highly recommend the Wadjet Eye adventure games. The Blackwell Series contains my favourite adventure games of all time, and Resonance, Gemini Rue, and Primordia are also very good. They all have very engaging and unique stories, with some very fun adventure gaming to be had.

Have a look at all of their store pages, but I imagine they'll all run fine on your computer. TLJ is, like, a decade old and the Wadjet Eyes adventures are all pixel-art.

Thanks for the recommendation guys, I played through most of the classics when I was younger, Such as the lucas arts and sierra games.

Played the blackwell deception demo and enjoyed it and am interested in more and really am interested in grey matter. Just I dont want to buy it for it to not work.

Bought Gemini Rue and shiva from amazon for Android. Was awesome but too short.

I do remember playing some TLJ on my fathers computer ages ago but never finishing so I may go with that.

Again, thanks. :)

Thexder on DOS is damn fun. I'd like to play the '95 version and Neo on PC (Fire Hawk, too), so that's one thing GOG could try to get published now that TitS has hit the charts.

I know I'm late, but I'd add Still Life and Still Life 2 to your adventure games list.
Decent adventure games where you play an FBI agent tracking down serial killers.

Last month's most conflicting release had to have been Gods Will Be Watching. Game looks so rad, but there were some really negative impressions after it came out. We have it running on one of our computers at work, and it seemed pretty cool from what little I played of it... and my homie at work insists its great. But I can't quite commit to buying the game yet. Oh well, maybe when it's on sale.

I want it to be Final Fantasy, but that will never happen.

Every single Steam released Final Fantasy (III,VII,VIII) had some form of imposed online DRM on it so yep, it'll never happen.

As I recall, VII had one where you had to log on to your Squenix Account to even start the damn game, which was rubbish considering the original PC release of the game released in '98 never had such restrictions.

Pretty nice week of releases this past week #31, with 3 of the 4 releases making the cut for the list of recommended games.

Legend of Heroes, The: Trails in the Sky is up first, and it's an RPG with a lot of praise for the world building. While it lacks the fight for the fate of the universe theme with a team of superheroes that can kill a million monsters at once with a single spell (but can't fight a group of guards when the plot says they need to be captured), it has a well written cast of characters, and even the random npcs that inhabit the world are given more attention than the actual main characters of some other RPGs. It's a very highly recommended game series, where each entry (with this being the first) successfully building interest and life to the game's world, something that isn't found a whole lot in RPGs.

Blocks that Matter is next, an indie puzzler / platformer that gets a good amount of praise. What's good is the game gets challenging pretty early on, if you go after the special blocks, and the puzzles are well made. The sequel, Tetrobot and Co. has less exposure and is more expensive, but also has high praise. A few people found it to be an improvement in almost every way over Blocks that Matter, though it takes a bit of the focus away from the platforming elements in the first.

Next more of a classic, Bullfrog's Theme Park, which sometimes gets lost under RollerCoaster Tycoon's shadow. This game focuses more on the business micromanagement and has a bit different humour to it. You can buy/sell in the stock market, set the amount of ice in your drinks and salt on your fries, and all sorts of little things. Generally there's a simplicity to it compared to RCT, since you don't need to layout super complex tracks to the coasters or design waiting lines etc. Very well regarded title.

Just one game not making the cut this week, Space Run: Fast and Safe Delivery, which did not have enough (or more precisely any) impressions, and will get a few more weeks to see if anyone comments about it.

I'm not familiar with Trails in the Sky, but I like a couple of other turn-based RPG's and the fact that it's available as a DRM-free PC game is making me want to try it.

One thing: People are saying it's the first of three parts... is there a reasonable chance that not all three will end up on GOG, so I can play them in the future? Or will they probably arrive there at some point?

It'd be pretty strange if the second game didn't end up on GOG, which is supposed to hit later this year, or maybe next year iirc.

The third part is still up in the air (for any english release), but from what I read the story in the first two games concludes at a logical point, while the third game is much less so.

So you're better off having played just the first two games and stopping instead of the first three then stopping, because playing the third game will leave you with all sorts of questions that I guess the rest of the games still coming out (I think there's 6?) answer, and those games are so far down the road you're probably better off taking language classes and importing them than waiting another 20 years until they maybe get released.

If you have any interest in stealth games should pick up Mark of the Ninja. It's one of my favorite games ever. So happy to double dip on this.

When did GOG add numbers to our user names?

That was a website glitch from a few weeks ago. Contact support and they will change your username.

The recently released one is Chapter 1 or First Chapter. Second Chapter is currently being worked on and is expected to be released by Late 2014 or Early 2015 at the earliest.

Do you think GOG will add two step email or phone verification when Galaxy launches? I also remember some talk of a wallet type feature, I can't wait.

And then no one buys it... ok maybe not, I think there's been some discussion over Crystal Caves before, but I doubt it's going to light up the sales charts on GOG.

Kingdom Rush, while having plenty of discussion and unanimous praise, probably has already been played by most of the people who were interested on HTML/Android/iOS already.

Sudeki is a gem promo if anyone cares.

$2.39

i bought it.

everybody has his own expectation, but i do not care about games that i can have on steam or games so old and so easy to find and run that there is no added value (as the two releases today).

gog, give me lost gems please.

i would buy a digital of the space bar for example.

Got an extra beta code to give away.
