Alien Isolation has gone gold + New trailer

No matter how good it looks, no matter how many right noises the dev team have made...I've just got a feeling this is going to disappoint.

I really, really want to be proven wrong. Definitely waiting for impressions due to Driveclub and my love for all things Mikami pushing TEW above this.

I really want this to be good but those previews shook my confidence.

Legit argument for the gaming media right there, tbh.

Black Friday will be amazing for me this year. This, dragon age, unity, FIFA, bayonetta, hyrule warriors. Awwww yisss

Wait.. I thought the previews were pretty postive.

There was a preview by (I think) PC Gamer, backed up by several people on the forum, that the xenomorph actually isn't at all the complex and intelligent AI that they promised in previews but is actually very tightly scripted, with preternatural hunting powers that let it discover you even if there's no way it could have known where you were.

Basically absolutely everything they insisted it wasn't.

[edit] It was PC World. Thread here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=876188

Instead the Alien seems consistently unfair, sticking unconscionably close to the player even in wide-open levels, as if it "knows" you're in that area. Even if it's never seen you there. Even if it shouldn't know you're there.

That's cheap. It's an artificial constraint on player creativity, as if to make sure they can't really get away from the Alien.

Halfway to the objective, I come around a corner and find the Alien waiting for me. I die. I restart from my last save point. I hurry back to the cutscene trigger—the ceiling light falls down, the Alien comes out of the ceiling, I hide under the gurney, it walks off, I walk off. This time I'm caught trying to mess with a door's access panel. I die. I hurry back to the cutscene trigger—the ceiling light falls down a third time, the Alien comes out of the ceiling, I hide under the gurney, it walks off, I walk off, I die, I hurry back to the cutscene trig—you get the idea.

[edit2] Memory fails me; not apparently backed up by people on the forum, but still, it's made me less confident about the game than I was.

I read an article on Wired a month ago about them playing this with a Rift and it's insane that was just a demo that I won't play day one. :(

Ehh I haven't followed what CA has said about Alien AI, but this sounds like a scripted horror game which I am actually perfectly fine with.

I don't know why, but I thought this was gonna be a smaller title that was like $20/30. Have they revealed a lot of content or something, because $50 is a bit steep for what I've seen/read about it.

It doesn't get much noise on the net and I'm skeptical. This is either gonna be total shit or the sleeper hit of the year.

Even if it loses it's scare factor dying over and over, and even if it turns out to be cheap in some areas, as a huge fan of the 79 film, I can't wait to just soak in the environments.

Looks like they've done an incredible job at recreating the look and feel of the old sets.

Nah, it will be something in between. What I've seen and heard seemed mostly positive but considering this is CA's first stealth game, an actual hit would be a surprise.

Turns out the AI isn't persistent but scripted the whole way through. Whether this would make or break the game will be known soon enough.

Can't wait. Have it pre ordered. I bought the Alien Anthology on Blu Ray to get ready for the game. Plan on watching the films leading up to the release of the game.

I'm hoping its good so we can finally get a good recent alien game but Creative Assembly's non total war games have been pretty hit and miss so far

When I played the E3 preview the AI wasn't scripted and it was random. The first time I went through I found a key to open a locked door and as the door lifted the alien was standing right in front of me.

After death, I saw a signal on the motion detector that it was a bit beyond the door, and by the time the door opened, it disappeared and was nowhere to be found. It didn't reappear until much later.

I had a choice to cancel this or Destiny. Destiny seemed like it would get really boring to me fast so I kept this. Plus I'm a huge Alien fan. Grew up with that shit, toys and all. I just hope I can stomach this game. I can't handle Outlast... But I can handle P.T. I don't get it but here's hoping. At least you can get weapons in this one even though to my understanding they just kinda stun the Alien.

the situation in the quote did not happen at all during my BCD demo at Gamescom. the entrance of the Alien was scripted, but that was it.

Completely unsure about this game, but hoping for the best!

Really interested in seeing how Creative handles this one.

Cross-gen game boasting super intelligent AI. Uh-huh. I'm not sure how anyone could've believed it would be possible. Not surprised in the slightest that it's mostly scripted

These are exactly my thoughts.

I'd rather try the game for myself and there have been some very favourable previews too so I'm not concerned in the slightest.

The thing is, I realise that it couldn't just be a very complicated AI, because there's the possibility that it could fart around on the other side of the map and not scare you at all. They have to put some constraints on its behaviour.

The issue is never whether the AI is smart enough, but rather, whether you can see the strings.

Interesting. I'm still going to wait for reviews and impressions though, I think.

Couldn't resist the purchase after that trailer. Hoping this isn't all bluster again. Environments also remind me to keep my eye out for Routine as well.

I was so hyped after first viewing, one of my most anticipated games, then that PC World article came out and now I'm a bit standoffish. Hoping for some positive impressions, anyhow at the moment I still want it because the atmosphere looks beautiful and I love the Alien franchise and this looks to be at worst a solid game but it's the difference between must have and wait for a sale.

Goddamn, it's not persistent Al? Hmm... This is my most anticipated game, so I am still getting it, but that PC World write up has me worried.

And that is the best fucking avatar I have ever seen, Soule.

I really hope this game to be a great one, I hope to have that sense of nostalgia from the very first Alien movies back in the day. As someone who finished AvP (which I had some fun except the Alien Campaign that gave me terrible motion sickness) and Aliens: Colonial Marines (which felt like a very bland and forgettable experience) I can only hope for Isolation to bring me some good times.

Was any word mentioned regarding the length of the game my good people? Thanks in advance!

Sega scares the shit out of me.

Creative Assembly excites the hell out of me.

Not sure how to feel on this. :?

I heard them say that there are weapons in the game but can you actually kill any of the Xenomorph with them? Or do weapons just make them run away to give you some breathing room.

Looks really cool from the trailer, but I just don't know how they would flesh out the game to be a compelling experience for more than an hour or two if you're just running away from the alien the whole time. Doesn't look like there's too much depth to it (granted I haven't done any research on what the game is -- only seen the trailers).
