Today we received some news about hardware sales of 2006. Since January PSP and xbox 360 are the first and second best sold platforms. February has been an excelent mont for the two platforms, and both are expected to increase his sales even more this month with the release of 2 packs for psp (console + f1 or console + medievik, both for 249e) and a bunch of new games for xbox360 and psp. In the rest of europe, both platforms are also leading hardware sales since january. Congratulations to Sony and Microsoft

Kinda mirrors what we heard about UK (PSP+X360 top 2 for 2006).

But I thought Nintendo released some image showing DS outselling PSP by ~150k in Spain.

Or maybe incorporated into the Xbox 360 figure as 5% in 2005 looks a bit high only for 360
Hmmm...just taking a closer look, it really makes no sense unless they're software sales anyway.
55% PS2? No way. We know the PSP+DS sold ~500k apiece, and the PS2 didn't sell 5M in Spain last year, we can be guarenteed that much.

I noticed this and thought the Pro Evo fans would enjoy it.

Someone with better Spanish comprehension than me should go through the rest of the report.

If they're software then I think they're wrong. According to this study on 2005 from the adese website, software is:

[fake edit]Bah, beaten already.

I don't see anywhere hardware numbers by platform.
An interesting tidbit is this:

European Top 5 - console hardware (milllllion units sold)

Code:
Total - 13,14
UK - 3,90
DE - 2,92
FR - 2,76
ES - 2,01
IT - 1,55

I saw that. It was my bad maths partly (2.5M not 5M), but the PS2 sales still seem extra-ordinarily high.
Seeing the software graph Mmmkay posted the Xbox/GC software sales are rather tiny, the hw sales should match.

I don't see those percentages anywhere in the report.

Total hardware sales are 2.012.000 units (4th market in Europe). There is also a % of software sales that was posted above. Top10 software for entire 2005 is also there, and also posted here. (Source: GfK)

Great, that is more or less drastically different than what we have heard about ~1.5 months ago.

2006130115933_2.jpg

So a 59% marketshare for DS and a 41% marketshare for other next gen handhelds (i.e. the PSP), or ~425k DS (announcement made by Nintendo) and ~295k PSP (calculated from the 59/41 marketshares).

Is that research company (AC Nielsen) that Nintendo cites more reliable than ADESE?

Go PSP!!! BUY PSP!!! Its sexy and fun!!! :lol

Im surprised Eye Toy Play 3 (which we have yet to see a stateside release) sells so well. I guess Eye Toy hit it off quite well in EU.

I have no clue :D Actually I did a quick search to find out if Nintendo bought AC Nielsen or sth. crazy like that, but as it seems they are a quite big market researcher.

Btw. taking a quick look through the report, the hardware numbers posted in the first post, aren't in it. So they are either bogus or I am blind :D

The numbers on the first post come from a Q&A session with some ADESE rep, and they are rough estimates, so don't take them very seriously.

Best selling games of 2005 (general and by platform) here:
http://www.adese.es/pdf/top_2005.pdf

Are you from Spain? If they are "rough estimates" I do think that it isn't too far fetched to say that the numbers from AC Nielsen are most likely more precise than that.
Are the hardware news for 2006 (PSP and X360 leading) also from that interview and if so is it more like "We ... guess ... that PSP and X360 are the best selling hardwares for the first two months" or more like "Our market research in various european countries shows that PSP and X360 have sold more hardware than the other consoles/handhelds in every european country"?
