Set five years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and fourteen years after the fall of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Council in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the series follows a motley group of rebels (all of whom have been affected by the Galactic Empire in one form or another) that band together aboard a freighter starship called the Ghost. The series will also focus on the origins of some of the groups that form the Rebel Alliance.

KANAN JARRUS
Strategist, father-figure and field commander; confident warrior with Jedi abilities.

HERA SYNDULLA
Ace pilot, crack shot and getaway driver. Very reliable, level-headed and wise. Owner and pilot of the Rebel's ship, The Ghost.

CHOPPER
Eccentric astromech droid specialising in starship repair, computer access and pranks. An older droid being patched together from parts over the years. Very cranky.

EZRA BRIDGER
Street-smart thief/pickpocket; smalltime con artist with amazing reflexes that are attributed to Force-sensitivity.

SABINE WREN
A rogue free-spirit with a mischievous grin. An explosives expert and artist. Very expressive and colourful. She maintains and customises the groups' technology and weaponry.

GARAZEB 'ZEB' ORRELIOS
Big, burly brawler; very strong with a lot of stamina. Loud, cantankerous alien with a zeal for grappling. Happiest when punching stormtroopers.

The Shorts:

In “The Machine in the Ghost,” the rebels’ Ghost starship is under attack by a wave of TIE fighters. Hera pilots the craft, while Kanan tries to blast the Imperials from the Ghost’s gunner. While they do evade and shoot down several TIEs, it’s up to astromech droid Chopper to finish the job – even if he’s reluctant to do so.

In “Art Attack,” Sabine sneaks into an Imperial compound, looking to create a diversion for her friends aboard the Ghost. Spotted by stormtroopers, she proves too quick to be captured – and leaves behind an explosive surprise.

In “Entanglement,” Zeb fails to meet with Kanan at a specified rendezvous point…and instead finds himself joyfully battling many, many stormtroopers.

In “Property of Ezra Bridger,” Ezra finds a downed TIE fighter on the plains of Lothal. The young rebel opens the ship’s hatch -- pretending to help the ungrateful Imperial pilot -- and leaves with a few souvenirs.

Nice. Saw the premier last week on the big screen and was surprised by it. Was concerned at first after having loved the TCW and this looking a bit cheaper, but it actually was pretty good. This having an actual narrative helps compared to the random anthology nature of TCW. Lot of promise.

I do hope that the empire is not made out to be nothing but bumbling idiots the entire time though and that they do pose a threat in some manner though.

Shit will get real when The Inquisitor shows up.

Can we talk about A New Dawn in here? Spoiler tags are a must.

I approached this cautiously. The shorts were fairly cheesy, and I was worried that it airing on Disney would mean the content would be watered down.

So, thankfully, the tone of the first episode is fantastic. I'm excited for the rest of the series.

totally forgot about the graffiti spraying mandalorian.

[interest wanes]

If the first episode is anything to judge by, it's not really a thing to worry about.

My thoughts on the first episode. Cross posted from the other thread:

Absolutely loved the first episode. Captured the feel of the original trilogy perfectly, and was no where as kiddie as the first few seasons of Clone Wars. It's shaping up to be even better than I hoped.

I really enjoyed the premiere. Thankfully the characters seem a bit more subdued compared to what was being advertised; they aren't trying to constantly hammer each character's "thing", like the Sabine being a "sassy, wall-tagging Mandalorian" or somesuch.

Hera is probably my favorite character just because she seems the most "real" of the cast.

it really looks bad in those posters and promo pics, but this is a really good star wars show, the first episode at least. I really liked it.

Well fuck...90% of the time a cool character design sells me on a series.

Sabine has a really cool design, Ezra too, but he needs new clothes...and the 1-2 episode was really enjoyable. Will watch.

I think we should all remember TCW looked a bit cheap when it started as well compared to what we ended up getting around the midpoint of Season 2. Hopefully Disney gives the show more of a budget as it moves on because each season of TCW was better and more detailed then the one before.

The thread title should be Star Wars Rebels |OT| Street Rat in Space.

I saw the first episode. I liked it a lot. It definitely captured the atmosphere of A New Hope. The character designs for the Wookiees are dreadful. Everyone else is pretty good. Kanan is cool.

Comparisons of Wookies between Clone Wars and Rebels:

You have to remember that George Lucas spared no expense when it came to TCW and it shows. Unfortunately, it looks like Disney is giving Rebels a smaller budget.

First episode in, like it more than almost all of The Clone Wars. No one can beat Ahsoka, but everybody beats the shit out of Obi Wan, Anakin, and Padme. The flaw of The Clone Wars was that it was built directly on George Lucas' pile of shit. For me, The Clone Wars will never live that down (and the fact that much of the writing was often shit throughout the whole series).

This has the epic advantage of being pretty fresh with a bunch of new stuff. Hopefully the CGI will get better with time, because I kinda hate how it looks. Still, enjoyed that one episode a lot more than the entirety of The Clone Wars. Dig it.

I haven't watched all of Clone Wars but I remember the first season looking bad.

time to go in on this. good to hear it isn't as childish as TCW season 1, though that series got progressively dark as it went on. hoping this series goes the same route.

I haven't watched all of Clone Wars but I remember the first season looking bad.

It was rough early on but Lucas basically gave the series a blank check. It was his baby so to speak. It also gave him a chance to expand on a lot of things he couldn't in the movies. Disney is not giving a blank check.

I loved how the lightsaber scene wasn't all over the place like the prequels. No unnecessary spins or flips. Kanan just sidestepping blaster bolts was great.

George was paying like more than a million and a half to two million dollars an episode and was losing gooooood chunks of money on every single episode. At least, from what I have read.

Would not surprise me to see Rebels being made for like 1/4th of the cost, if not less.

That was the one major sore spot in the premiere. I really enjoyed it for the most part, but the wookies looked grotesquely bad. Distracting in every scene they were in.

I thought it was decent, but really don't like the main character's design, he is kinda ugly. Will continue to watch.

Animation looks a bit worse, but it sounds most of you guys enjoyed the first episode. Glad to see that it's turning out well!

Can't wait to watch it, but I'm going to finish Clone Wars first.

The animation is quite good, the show just has lower quality models, less details/effects.

So Rebels is... OK? It's not amazing, and it's no where near as visually detailed as TCW series, but it works for what it is. There's shooting, Empire, force stuff.

The plot wasn't too bad either.

I can't tell if I find Erza more or less annoying than I did early series Ashoka.

b-b-b-but master skyguy!

I actually like Ezra, the scene where he saves that merchant from the Empire but then takes half his fruit was completely endearing to me.

Great story and characters, but dang is it a significant downgrade in CG quality from Clone Wars. Made me wish it was 2D like the Genndy show if it was going to be this cheap.

I absolutely believe you guys when you say its good / captures OT but mah god, those promo shots are completely cheap looking the worst of Dreamworks style ass.

Worse, it looks like a cheap smug dumb Dreamworks movie thats been dumbed down further for a TV spin off.
