Taipei game show has seen huge attendance this year with cumulative 430,000 attendees over the five day event. The show has grown to a scale of 195 companies occupying 1471 booths. To put that into perspective, Gamescom last year had attendance of 335,000 people and had more than 700 exhibitors. In terms of attendance, TGS is bigger.

The growing Taipei Game Show has become a relevant showcase for the PlayStation brand, and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia demonstrated a huge number of games for PlayStation systems including Dragon Quest Heroes, Metal Gear Solid V, Street Fighter V and many others. In total Sony had 26 PS4 games, ten PS Vita games and one PS3 game playable on the show floor.

The event has also been huge for mobile with Google confirming that Taiwan is among the top five markets in terms of revenue for official Android app store Google Play. Chris Yerga, vice president of Google engineering and head of Google Play Asia Pacific said Taiwan's gaming market is rapidly changing, from being based in Internet cafes to smartphones and that, today, 72 per cent of Taiwanese smartphone users play games on their smartphones.

PC and Online gaming saw a huge amount of press with a StarCraft II: Hear of the Swarm finals competition in the Intel Extreme Masters Taipei tournament. Players from Taiwan faced off against competitors from South Korea and the Netherlands for a cash prize of US$75,000 and two tickets to the IEM world championship slated for March in Katowice, Poland.

Other high-profile activities included a pageant to select a brand ambassador for the popular mobile game "Tower of Saviors" (神魔之塔) and the finals of the Taiwan-Hong Kong-Macau tournaments of the Knife Tower Legend (刀塔傳奇) card game. Even with the final day of the event being the first day of nationwide college entrance exams, many turned out to check out what was on offer.

Taiwan has grown to be a huge gaming market and you can view the livestream of the event below as well as key videos from the event including crowd reactions for certain localisation announcements. You will notice that a huge number of game developers, producers and representatives attended this event. Hideo Kojima for example is just one example of many.

This blows my mind. Do people pirate shit less in Taiwan or what?

One of those links is going to get an excessive amount of clicks over the others.

I don't know what you're talking about ..

You can't pirate micro transactions and f2p (yet)

Does anyone knows if it's bigger then the Tokyo Game Show? (I'm guessing yes)

In terms of attendance, yes. Taipei game show saw 430k+ this year, record for Tokyo Game Show was 270k I believe.

Assuming majority of revenue is from f2p games, piracy probably doesn't matter.

That's what I thought but I wasn't expecting it to be this big compared to TGS even with the 3 more days, thanks.

Tokyo Game show is also a much bigger show in terms of square footage wise.

That being said, Makuhari Messe (TokyoGS) is kinda out of the way compared to Shimao (TaipeiGS.)

Shimao is basically at the heart and center of Taipei's shopping and entertainment district, being right next to Taipei 101.

TokyoGS = NYC Jacob Javits Center, large but not where people usually gather.
TaipeiGS = NYC Time Square, smaller area, larger crowd being there to begin with.

Basically, kids can just walk to and get a ticket into the Taipei Game Show themselves.

That's great news. I didn't know it was that big of a deal. Hopefully growth isn't just mainly in mobile stuff.

Has Sony had as big of a presence in previous years, or is this a first for them?

That was fantastic.

You'd make a great teacher. :)

Yup. Gamescom and Tokyo game show are technically "bigger" in the sense of the word. And much bigger in terms of overall impact worldwide.

What I was trying to put across here is the number of cumulative attendees was very high and eclipsed that of Tokyo Game Show and other events like Gamescom.

In a similar way that I made the Middle East thread to show that Sony have Gamers day and other events and have almost sold in 1 million units in GCC countries.

These threads are to show gaffers that there is a gaming market growing outside of the typical regions you think of like USA/Europe/Japan.

Sony have always had a presence. Even more so since Sony merged Japan and Asia operations. Asia gets a lot better treatment in regards to localisation and support now compared to what it used to get.

Visitors != impact.

In terms of overall impact (and size), Taipei Game Show is light years away from events like TGS or PAX. Even Sony is just a "mid sized" exhibitor at the show compared to the major F2P game exhibits.

Sony has had a decent presence in Taiwan, but this year is pretty major for them due to all the localization announcement. Sony's localization efforts in the past were largely limited to 1st party titles. This year they're extending out to 3rd parties. MGS5:PP Chinese localization, for example, is a PS4 exclusive as Sony is footing the bill and manpower (Sony Taiwan) to get it done.

Being populous is not what one should look for. Taiwan has been one of the world's technological hubs for quite some time now and is ranking pretty high on the lists of countries by GDP (PPP) per capita.

So that's why I'm always getting people from Taiwan in Doki Doki Postbox huh? Makes sense.

It's also a surprise to see Taipei being such a big Games Convention. I'm kinda curious to see if Gamescom is going to move from their current location. It really can't get bigger than it is right now.

I would love to know how you would go about generating revenue by pirating.

That is an absolutely mind blowing amount of people. Glad to see it went well.

Less than you, or what's your point?

Talk about being sensitive.

Good, informative post. Thank you.

I've been schooled on this stuff before as an arrogant quad-lingual.
You impress me more with your sales talk, lol

Really? Well I always value your contribution and I've never seen you post inaccurate stuff before.

And thanks for the kind words in return haha.

That's pretty good. How big is their convention center?
Gamescom is a little bit too small for all the people and this is even bigger.

Yeah you can. Freedom for android which works sometimes and there was a jailbroken app that you could use on ios which, unlike the android one, worked 100% of the time back when I had the ipod touch. On pc there's cheat engine. Not really pirating, more like modifying a couple of in game variables.
