inFAMOUS Second Son - Collector's Edition Trailer

Honestly, I think Rockstar with GTA have the best method of revealing their games. They give a glimpse into the variety without revealing the majority. This works for an Open World game.

Rockstar thrives on variety and scale though. Even without revealing majority, they often show the key glimpses into :

"scope of the world"
"side-activities possible"
"the driving & shooting"

Which are pretty much what makes GTA stand out from the rest, except the 3rd point.

It looks amazing and the powers in Infamous have been pretty great but those are staples of the series. I'm getting a bit anxious about what they do to improve the mission structure, make the post-game fun and improve the variety of side missions.

The only thing I've really been disappointed with in the previous games was the splitting of the ice/fire powers in Infamous 2 and how the control scheme limited power choices. So I'm really looking forward to seeing how the game flows and how the powers work together.

Agreed with the bold part.

It's an inFamous game, the powers are going to be there and it's what Sucker Punch does well. The first time I saw the gameplay trailer where Cole threw the Ionic Vortex, I damn near lost my mind, and if there's going to be similar powers for each power set, I have no doubt they'll be equally awesome. The Ice and Fire powers were both well done and added a different flavor of movement through the environment.

The story/sidequests are the only thing I'm worried about, and I think, are a few of the things holding this game/franchise back from being on the level of say an Uncharted. I think what made the side missions repetitive were that they were usually just random tasks given to you by random people on the street. Those are okay in small does, but they shouldn't make up the bulk of the missions. Most of the good open world games tie their side missions in with the story or characters, instead of them just being random tasks.

So I hope in Second Son they follow a similar path. Maybe if you're going through an "evil" playthrough, you align yourself as an agent with the DUP and you have to hunt down conduits and kill them, or find conduits and bring them back to the DUP so they can study them. It looks like Delsin absorbs not only absorbs powers, but memories as well as evidenced by the Fetch trailer. So instead of listening to audio recordings of events, when you absorb some one's memories, you get a visual playback of the events that happened, a la "Dead Drops".

But yeah, not really worried about the game play aspects from Sucker Punch. They do those things well, and improved substantially from inFamous 1 to inFamous 2, so I expect the same thing on Second Son. The only thing I'm worried about are the story aspects, namely how in the hell are all these conduits running around when they're technically supposed to be dead.

Ugh... Why are SP so damn reserved with this game? It's a bloody open world title you don't need to be so damn secretive. And its not like it's set in some magical land that you want people to discover for themselves, it's fucking Seattle. Show us an hour long video of Delsin exploring the map and going crazy with super powers. That's how you're going to sell me, not these samey 2 minute fucking trailers and shit.

The game is coming out in just over a month! In comparison MS have done an amazing job marketing/showing TitantFall. Again you're not going to ruin the story in an open world game, show us side quests and such. Unless my fears are true and this game really is boring outside of story missions.

Why do you think it SP and not Sony?

Bottle openers? Sigh. I'm starting to suspect sucker punch have no idea who their audience is...

"Cole's legacy" huh...

It's a game about a 25 year old graffiti artist with no direction in life who suddenly gets super powers and goes on a rampage taking out The Man™.

I'd say those items are pretty spot on for their intended
male power fantasy
audience.

Dunno why I even bother to click on any "new" Infamous stuff. Its always the same clips.

Hopefully, there will be some new media tomorrow...

The weather tech does look really cool. Should be great in action.

I worry more about interacting with the city. Are there heavy civilian zones? Can I interact with everything?

People...vehicles...venders...stores? Do places open and close? Can I enter lots/most buildings?

Or is it just a big world with nothing but repetitive ideas where I end up just running around and blowing things up (see Just Cause 2)...and get bored with the repetition.

Are my expectations for any open world game not called GTA too high now? lol

Was it okay when Rockstar did it with GTA and Red Dead and Max Payne?

Its been too long to remember what promotion was like for Red Dead or Max Payne. However, GTA had 2 normal trailers, 3 character trailers, and 2 trailers entirely focused on showing off the world and gameplay.

Why do you think it SP and not Sony?

Because there's so many people on this dedicated gaming forums that still doesn't understand how the game industry works. They really think these studios are indie developers and can show off their game any time they want.

Sony and MS marketing teams makes all the final decisions when it comes to revealing information for their 1st party games. I hope people will start to realize this.

InFamous is about climbing stuff not going in buildings really.

Should also be noted that that's the EU Collector's Edition. NTSC has no jacket/vest case, no bottle opener and no coin (but has 5 more pins and a decal).

I wish they'd just do a Steelbook instead of the jacket case. I'm just going to get this since it comes with Sackboy Delsin:

A denim vest for my game case so it won't fit on my shelf, and a bunch of stuff to lose immediately. Think I'll stick with the regular version, thanks :P

Yeah, I'm starting to get a bit worried at how little Sucker Punch has been showing. Keeping the story and the rest of the powers under wraps is fine, but there's been no hint of any other enemy types, any of the extra attacks from the first two games (grenades, rockets, sniper shots, etc) or any mission variety beyond 'kill all these guys'. I've been assuming it's all there, but the longer we go without seeing it the more worried I am that the game's fallen prey to the next-gen launch game curse. I'm looking forward to those new previews.

I'm worried myself, especially when you look at how Infamous 2 was promoted on all the new gameplay features they were adding and improving.

Hopefully, they blow the walls off tomorrow and we get a lot of new info.

I have got three sackboy keyrings , two from Killzone and one from Resistance, all of them broke after a little bit of use but this one looks really cool

Not today, tomorrow.

I thought the embargo lifted at 10:00 a.m.?

The first embargo to drop will be for inFAMOUS: Second Son, that will be unveiled at 10 AM EST. Two hours later, at 12 PM EST, the gag order will be removed for the beta version of Titanfall. Finally, tomorrow at 10 AM EST websites the world over will be allowed to talk about the upcoming baseball title MLB 14: The Show.

I guess I'm one of the few people that doesn't mind the lack of a full blowout of this game.

I mean, it's inFAMOUS. Technically the fourth in the series. If you don't know what to expect from the series by this point, I don't know what to tell you. I personally don't need to see every locale, know every power, every feature. Then again, I'm a diehard inFAMOUS fan, so SP had my money the moment this game was announced.

I guess I get why some want more, and I'll certainly watch the released vids, but I'm not going to be pissed about not having the entire game revealed to me. I've had other games impact lessened because I knew too much by release.

SS releases next month. I can be patient!
