The Order: 1886 - New Gameplay Footage Released Before Embargo

The interesting thing about that is you have a selection between the knife and the guys face. Which we can guess would be a non-lethal takedown if selected. Instead they showed off the knife for more ooh ahh factor.

Though the fact the choice is present makes me wonder if there will be an actual purpose for non-lethal vs lethal with story or mechanics.

The QTE sequences could be really fun, but I wonder how they're going to balance out variety vs repetitiveness. Looks like a lot of work went into animating that; will it be the same for every surprise takedown encounter?

I'm expecting branching QTE for different choices. If those choices influence more than the scene itself, even better.

The material visuals (leather, cloth) in this game are truly next-gen.

Does pressing a button during a cutscene really impress you? I'm honestly wondering, what makes that interesting to you?

Are you going to critique every single post that manages to express some positivity towards this game?
Are you intentionally being obtuse or just that insecure?

Is there a high res video anywhere?

Looks really amazing graphically but I'm not sure if I like the setting. Everything is so dark and brown/grey and thus makes it hard to compare it to Ryse which I consider being the best looking next gen game so far. (And Shinobi said it looks better than Ryse)

edit: Saw the 1080p youtube version. I really dig the motion-blur and DOF - really has that cinematic look.

dayamn looks nice. still wish co-op :(

yea it looks good but it just looks like a fucking third person shooter

so is every thread going to include this obligatory comment now?

"just a fps...what's the big deal" (titanfall)
"just a tps...what's the big deal" (order)
"just an open world game...what's the big deal" (infamous)

etc. etc. etc. smh

My guess is that you either take precious time to look for the most effective weapon/method of attack, or risk going for the closest thing at hand, which might not be effective.

I'd hope so, but I expect that picking the wrong option just leads to another bloody QTE.

i'll look forward to comparing this game side by side with ryse during the minataur boss fight and see because as its stands that encounter in ryse is the best thing i've ever seen in gaming so far.

Why not compare like with like? York looks most similar to this and I would say even from the snippets this looks more impressive.

The cloth physics!

Huh.

I like what I saw but is that the footage they were going to reveal later today? I got myself psyched up for 14:00 GMT.

I love the look of it, I don't think the movie style aspect ratio is going to bother me. But I didn't see any of the destruction that's been talked about, something I was looking forward to.

I had read that the game is doing something new with QTEs in that after one has been triggered you might need to find an object in the environment to complete it, which is what we saw with the player looking for a weapon and using a knife during a slow motion moment. I hope this is used sparingly though, I'd avoid melee combat at all times if it involved slow mo quick time events in every incidence.

I was under no illusion that this would not be a thrid person shooter though: it baffles me that people could expect anything else given that it's a third person game with guns. That said, the enemies in this footage were humans, the pace of gameplay will probably change when fighting the monsters.

Where is my 4th person shooter?
I'm sorry but there's nothing in the tos that says anything about a poster not being allowed to say something negative about anything Sony. You don't have to defend everything that is Sony.

Anyway, the devs still have half a year to polish the controls. They look a bit stiff now, but I fully expect them to be smoother close to launch. I still have a small hope that they will remove the black bars though.

This is just concept art but I hope we can see real time gameplay video of this scene soon.

It would be nuts If players could explore cities with thick atmosphere like this with horse carriages, people moving around on wet pavement and entering stores.

Is my expectation too high, Ready at Dawn?

What are you talking about?

I just made a dumb joke people are allowed to do as they please, stop taking stuff so seriously.

Eh, you're really talking small differences here.
Not really. Resident Evil 4's way of gameplay is completely different from Last of Us. Resident Evil 4 was more about overwhelming you with enemies in these mid-sized playgrounds and you just had to shoot your way through the situations. The Last of Us was more about avoiding enemies altogether & and picking them out one by one. You were at a huge disadvantage if you were seen and shoot shoot bang bang really doesn't get you anywhere in that game, whereas shoot shoot bang bang is the meat of Resident Evil 4's gameplay. The Order doesn't seem to shy away from shoot shoot bang bang, but seems to be more like Resident Evil 4 in that it's somewhat of the meat of the action parts of the game. At this point, from Naughty Dog's games, The Order is closer to a third person shooter like Uncharted than ND's TLoU, but even then (as I said) I could see the monster aspect of it making it resemble Resident Evil 4 more.

Nothing he said was being defensive...the but it's a tps comment was dumb. There really isn't anything to 'defend' here.

I must be one of the few people not as impressed with the clothing. It obviously clips in the gif of him jumping off the roof, and at the beginning the movement doesn't make much sense to me since the steam right by him doesn't indicate there's really any wind. It looks outstanding but the physics seem off to me.

Yeah maybe. I'm still a little confused about that encounter though. With the way it's set up (Galahad dropping through the wooden roof, almost falling on the guy as he lands, and the perfect camera angles) I have my doubts about it being a representation of a typical melee encounter. It looks to me more like a specific scene in the campaign that only happens at that point.

Don't expect much free roaming in terms of levels. It's a cover shooter and not an open world game. But there's nothing stopping them from realizing the artwork in the game.

Holy cow, I cannot believe what I am watching...that was gameplay?!
When does this release? This year or 2015?
edit: also, lol, that main character kinda looks like Charles Lee from AC III, with the robes and black hair and all

No, this is the b-roll footage (which in fact is not meant to be shown consecutively like in this video).

We are still getting a new, different trailer 14:00GMT/15:00CET (PS Nation guy confirmed here on GAF yesterday that we were getting both b-roll and trailer today.)

"Cinematic experience" == QTE. Period. We've seen it with Ryse et al. Is everyone seriously giving this QTE shitfest a pass??

One situational slow motion melee attack with two button prompts is not a QTE shitfest. I think. What's a QTE shitfest?

The stand-out graphical flaw, much like Naughty Dog's work, is the lack of AF. I don't understand why it is still not worth the performance penalty to implement good AF on PS4.

The gameplay parts look a bit clunky, their animation blending perhaps not as fluid as Uncharted. Otherwise, stunning stuff.

Since when have third-person shooters become the new thing to hate on? Seems like only yesterday people were saying "not another FPS! The market is saturated with them!" (Which it kinda is)
If it's not some imaginary new genre that hasn't been thought of yet it can't possibly be good on its own merit.

Yes please.

And let me open fire on them too; I don't care if I get a Game Over immediately afterwards.

Yeah, I am sure the whole game won't be set in Whitechaple. I mean what would the sense be in that? Let's choose the most drab and least aesthetically interesting setting in London to situate our game. Sure it is a fitting setting for a horror narrative, but the aesthetics would soon bore. I expect them to make full use of the capital....
