PS4 sales have surpassed 5.3 million units according to Sony (As of Feb 8)

I also think Sony has been withholding February shipments for Japan's launch and not January. Just saying this based on our shipments for our store (and district) for this month. Substantially smaller then January shipments so far.

Does this number make the 1.4 million production estimate incorrect? I would put it closer to 1 million

It's the Chinese New Year. Production capacity in Chinese factories are substantially reduced in this time of the year. If it was 1.4 million on an average month, it's probably 1 million for February.

dude..... I guarantee MS got a fucking steal on TitanFall given how the install bases are turning out. Hopefully the whole fiasco will signal the end of selling third party exclusivity.

Yep, losing out on all the revenue from both the PS4 and PS3 would have me asking questions if I was a stockholder of EA.

Hopefully teaches them a lesson to not fuck over customers on another platform, the leading next gen platform as it stands.

Sweet. Makes me wonder about the Japanese launch.

Sony pretty much deserve it. They've done no wrong so far in this generation, aside from maybe a not so consistent first party release schedule.

Here's hoping they hit 10 million this year.

I just want PS4 to massively out ship the Xbox for the single sole purpose of screwing EA. That is all I want. I guess it's partially already happening.

This is great news for all of us. Microsoft has to increase customer value somehow. They can toss the moneyhat around. They can invest in content partnerships. They can invest in first party studios. Microsoft will respond to this in a way that benefits gamers.

Sony's doing the right things. I hope they don't get lazy and turn into cocky Sony. Keep focusing on games, add apps as needed and continue to improve the user experience. They'll have to earn my money this gen as I'm still pissed about the PS3 launch debacle. They're moving in the right direction as evidenced by their sales.

Agreed, but their options (and budget with which to carry them out) may be limited.

I want that to be true, that only messes with gamers on other systems. I have no issue if a dev decides to make an exclusive on their own accord or if a one of the big 3 funds a game that was never going to be made in the first place (Dead Riaing 3, Bayonetta 2) but paying to stop a game from going to a rival system is just wrong.

this is why the ID@xbox program pissed off so many people. the parity clause might be forcing developers to delay PS4 games to comply with MS' rules.

I personally don't give a shit what MS does but when they influence the games and content on my console of choice it irks me.

can you if possible confirm that PS4 did actually break 1 million barrier in a single country (USA, not whole of NA) on its launch?

Just amazed to know PS2 did 600k in Japan on first day.. so did PS4 broke PS2 record of highest sales for 1st day ?

ps. i know comparing japan sales to USA sales is not an apple to apple comparison but just want to know what is the new single day/week record for a single country

If PS4 ends up with twice the install base, which is looking likely, they'll just put it out on the PS 'family' - Vita, PS3, PS4 - with the freedom to plop it on PC too. MS are really just screwing themselves with that clause. I think they vastly overestimated their appeal and popularity this gen. Consumers can turn on a dime.

Which makes this even better, with such a lead smaller devs may be hesitant to delay games on PS4, which only means X1 loosing out on games and will hopefully lead to them dropping that clause. Maybe MS could use these BS tactics last gen when they dominated NA, but it's so good to see them getting their just deserts

Just so we are all clear, from 2008.

“This year will be the largest in the history of the video game industry, with Xbox 360 leading the charge in the U.S. and abroad,” said Don Mattrick, Microsoft senior VP of Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. (phew) “History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry.”

Brings back memories...like this GIF:

Ya, as much as I loathe Activision and love the heads at Respawn, EA's collusion with MS to basically buy off another, likely superior version of a console Titanfall really annoys me to the point that I hope Destiny shits all over everything else.

Many people (myself included) think Titanfall will sell more on 360 than X1...so which is it? Because the opinion that 360 will outsell X1 version seems to be a foregone conclusion from many people on this board. Therefore, one can assume that the same case would be said for PS3 > PS4, no?

edit: And it's just trying to show the POTENTIAL buyers that they could reach. If they werent concerned about ignoring 80 million potential buyers (obviously less than this since many own both consoles, and many PS3s are bought by the same people ,ect), then the 7 million shouldn't be the biggest thing to be looking at. The choice was already made

I wouldn't say 360 TF > One TF as a sure thing. And the 80 million aren't potential buyers anyway. neither are the 7 million. The potential buyers are a subset and EA will know which subset they're aiming at. For instance, the subset of 80 million 360 gamers they want to sell TF to is probably bigger than that subset of 80 million PS3 gamers.

Well, as I don`t know where I should post it, I`ll post it here. Thuway made some pretty cryptic twitter posts of the PS4 and it`s future.

Whatever is happening behind the scenes, it’s got people excited.
Things to look forward to:
Drive Club updated footage
PS4 VR + SSM [Sony Santa Monica] New IP
UC 4 [Uncharted 4]
Guerilla new IP
UC4
The Last Guardian
And yes, UC4 was posted twice on purpose.

The future for PS4 oh so good.

GT7 Prologue was left out intentionally.

OK I’m gonna get angry pms now , but thats all I’ll say.

Good numbers, Sony! Numbers like this make me appreciate Amazon for getting the consoles out on launch day with no issues even though there was a shortage.

Would the loss of Titanfall exclusivity due to poor X1 sales be more newsworthy than the loss of FFXIII exclusivity was due to PS3's poor sales? Would amir0x come in here proclaiming an end to the age of Microsoft, when even EA sees the writing on the wall?

medi pretty much came out and bragged about MS moneyhatting the game after the EA/MS deal in october. if that wasn't a big "fuck you" to PS fans I don't know what is.

Again, this does say nothing about a potential PS4 version that was maybe planed.
But yeah the call out was unnecessary. But to be honest console f4nbo1z of all colors are pretty brutal.

The question is, why didn't they invest more in first party studios during the development of Xbox One? As much as I like him and he comes across as a nice guy on Twitter, Phil Spencer and those above him haven't done enough in that regard in my opinion. I think those above his pay grade are strictly unwilling or ignorant to see the concept of building a diverse portfolio. It's all so predictable too, Remedys game is promising but once again we are getting Forza, Halo, Fable and Gears. Don't they ever see the possibility of these ips becoming stagnant ?

That's too bad for PlayStation only gamers, times like this it's nice to own multiple consoles.

Oh the salty tears of Fanboy-wars. How good they taste.
We had our feast and it is amazing how well we dined the last few month.

The problem is we are all kinda fed up on them.
I don't want to see another thread were people post lolz about resolution or framerate and 20 pages meltdowns when a game is not meeting their 1440p@180fps demands.

It was fun. But to be honest, the best games I played last year were on the WiiU and they were not 1080p with 60 fps... And they would not have been better if they were...

Call me too optimistic, but I think the PS4 will light a fire in Japan. I think they got a raw deal last gen with the PS3 being the only HD console in their homeland (it was shit for half a gen) and it scared some of them off. Demographics will ensure that the final number will be capped but I think the rate of sale will be quite high - more than what NEOGAF thinks. There just needs to be more of an effective effort to get quality software on the shelves from Japanese devs. They dropped off in quality and it showed last time around. Hopefully, they can improve on that front.

Didn't he already do that? From the sounds of things, MS has exclusivity locked up tight. However, it wouldn't be the first time that MS lead us to believe that was the case, only to find out it was timed exclusive (Oblivion and Bioshock come to mind). I don't know if its because these contracts are a little more flimsy than one would assume, and publishers find a way out of it...or the other explanation is that the plan all along was to just make people think its true exclusive until a specified date.

I'm actually wondering if there is a clause in the contract with MS where exclusivity could be dropped if it didn't hit a certain number of units in sales.

To be fair, I can't imagine it not hitting a certain number. Their are 3.4 million Xbox Ones and I am willing to bet that most of those people will own Titanfall.

Define "most" for us. if its 50% then thats 1.7m copies, not including however many it might sell on 360.

Just how successful are people expecting Titanfall to be?

Yep, if anything the attach rate for those exclusives should be higher than the norm considering the audience that the Xbone attracts in the first place. These people have willingly invested into the platform knowing that it's more costlier than the available alternative for the promise of exclusives, a better software ecosystem and other perks in their minds.

That's great and all, but I wouldn't put it past Microsoft to get their ego involved and have a "make good" number of, say, 5 million.

I doubt all of those people would buy the game. I'd guess at most half, which would be an insane attach rate. It's online only and no single player campaign.

I would say north of 50% of Xbone owners will buy Titanfall. A 70% attach rate on Xbox One would be my guess.

That sounds ridiculous. I don't think there'll ever be a non pack in game that has 70% attach rate...

with 2 million Xbones in the US, are you expecting Titanfall XB1 sales to be over a million in march?

whatever chance they have
the window is shrinking fast
the post launch release list is practically empty with no new games announced in months

Spin off and proper sequel ?

Oh, that's possible. I honestly wasn't sure how to feel about the hints that UC4 was going to be a Sir Francis Drake-centered game but if that's the spin-off and a proper UC sequel is simultaneously in the works then I'm all up for it.

That's an absurd number. Nothing but a pack-in has ever, or will ever reach that, unless it's a total bomb of a console that never hit a million sold (and maybe not then).

It's higher than Super Mario 64 was on the N64. Higher than Halo on the Xbox. Microsoft could pack the game in with new Xbox Ones for a few months, and it still wouldn't hit 70%.

That's impossible. Even Mario doesn't have that attach rate. You are just talking out of your ass.

Well essentially I am lol. The reason I think it's gonna be insanely high is because most people who bought the Xbox One are either hardcore gamers or hardcore CoD players. That plus the hype and the fact that there is pretty much nothing else coming to the Xbox One is what makes me think that it's gonna be that high. Probably a safer bet is 65%-60%. I know even that sounds unbelievable but I am just getting that feeling. You are absolutely right to be skeptical.

What makes you say that?

Surely hardcore gamers if they were to gravitate to one console it would be the more powerful kinect-less console?

Regarding the hardcore CoD, I'm pretty sure CoD is selling more on PS4 than XB1, despite CoD slightly edging it in America.

Maybe at some point they will get to buying the game but not at launch. It's just impossible. You have to realize that not everyone who bought Xbox acts like you or your friend would act. You have to look at statistics. Even 50% is VERY high for a game. The argument that you are making could be as easily made about Mario on Nintendo system. And that just does not happen.
