I'm looking forward to the game! but that sounds like a waste of cpu/gpu resources. edit: My knowledge base is outdated. I thought this would be ~3x above heavily diminishing returns.

Not up to par on this stuff.. How much did say .. Joel in TLOU use? Or Kratos in GOW3?

I need points of reference. Nate Drake was 30k in UC3, right? I don't know many about the polycount of characters in any of the existing new gen games.

All those resources should have been for the enemies, for when they get shot and for those headshots and dismemberment, the more pieces of brain/hands/arms/legs and gore the better, and the more detailed the better too.

sounds like a lot? wasnt Ryse somewhere around that area? or didnt they have a poly decrease? i thought Marius looked great.

I don't know about Joel, but a few comparisons:

Kratos: ~20k
Heavy Rain main characters: 15k
Lee in The Walking Dead: 5k
Marius in Ryse: 85k

They should have used at least half of those polys to make the combat better.

I would also like to know this. I mean, it sounds a lot, but some context would be ideal. How about Lara's poly count in Tom Braider DE, for instance? I seem to recall Raziel in Soul Reaver 2 on PS2 had a huge 5000 polygons, but I'm not sure how much use that is for comparison 13 years later.

A billion polygons on your character won't save your game if the gameplay is boring.

Hopefully the next trailers will make me change my opinion.

Kratos was at about 20K in GOW3 if the article I've looked up is correct.
Edit: I just hope the disparity in quality between the main and secondary characters isn't too jarring. That was a weakness in GOW3.
