Precure All-Stars DX2 The Movie: Kibou no Hikari - Rainbow Jewel wo Mamore!

Yep, it's that time again. And you know what this means… SCREENSHOTS GALORE!

(Apologies as usual for the bandwidth load. I did at least convert everything to JPGs this time! =p)

So yeah, not as good as the first All-Stars movie, but that was still a fun ride. Bring on the next one!

You've seen Fresh Precure, they can't determine the proper height of characters for shit.

*doesn't even touch on one of the biggest problems of DX2* whhhy

But you do it to an obsessive degree. If I didn't like a show you like I would state it once and would only repeat it if someone asked.

I don't know you. You're probably a great guy and are doing it because it's fun to mess with me (I've been told this by many people xD) but the lengths you go to keep telling me and everyone else that it's a terrible show is unhealthy. I accept the show is not for everyone (clearly), but I would like to talk Angel Beats and Clannad with others without being haggled. I think that would make both our lives easier. ;)

Nobody is messing with you. I've hated on Angel Beats for years before you posted here. Someone was posting about Angel Beats so I posted about it. Being able to freely criticize anime is part of AnimeGAF culture, and it's part of what makes it attractive to people. I mean, this isn't AnimeSuki.

As far as I can tell, no one has personally attacked you for liking Angel Beats. If that happened it would be wrong, but eviscerating a show is just as valid as unconditionally loving it. I might disagree with Hitokage's opinion of NTHT or dimb's disapproval of 99% of anime, but it's not like they're doing it to attack me. Well, maybe Hitokage is, I dunno.

Monster 4-
Johann's voice is drastically different than what I expected. It's much more effeminate than I expected. Also I remember reading somewhere that woman are more likely to poison their victims so I wonder if that ties into the effeminate stuff.

Also that whole stuff about the doctor being the 'father' of the patient gets thrown right back at Tenma's face at the end. So I guess that raises the question of how responsible Tenma is for all of this.

It can be difficult striking a balance between humorously deriding a show you don't like and raining on someone else's parade for what appears to be no other reason than spite.

Lessee now. Are you talking about the Heartcatch girls' characterisation? Because I did feel like Erika wasn't quite…Erika enough a lot of the time. I was actually going to make a comment on that, but when I was looking through the movie for an appropriate screenshot to illustrate it, I found so many scenes of her at least looking beautifully Erika that I decided to let her off the hook.

Detective Conan 290:
And then they make you feel bad for a serial killer.

Strong story with some nice moments for Mitsuhiko, and an oddly touching portrayal for Numabuchi. Haibara's scenes where she wondered if she was losing her edge were good, too. The episode was also really good in terms of fleshing out the organization a little bit more, and giving us some insight into the more rank and file members as opposed to just the big shot codenamed folks.

Spoilers for the first paragraph of your post.
That effeminate persona, probably going hand-in-hand with having a twin sister, works quite well for Johann in a later episode.

Monster 3-

I love how Tenma gave no fucks. No tears were shed and after the initial shock, he gave no shits about any of them.

So the show again went in a different direction than I expected.
He actually got promoted to the Chief of Surgery position anyway. I love how Eva, the money grubbing leech that she is, tried to get with Tenma again and he was nope.jpg. Well done on his part
. Things turned out better than expected although I'm sure his life is going to get shat on at some point or another, as Tenma is way too happy right now.

Oh man you just started this? I love this show. I wish you the best of luck, you're going to love it. One of the better dramas out there and I love how the writer actually researched Germany and didn't just pretend they act the same as Japanese. Every character is amazing. The protag and villain of Monster have one of the most interesting rivalries/stories together, with each being immensely complex. I can't emphasize how much I love Monster.

The manga's one of my favorites, I should get around to watching the show sometime. You're in for a ride!

You should. While the show is no animation powerhouse, the character designs, voice acting and plot alone carry the whole show.

If not I believe Guillermo Del Toro is preparing a pilot for HBO for a live action Monster. I don't think there's a single manga/anime that can translate as well into HBO as Monster.

Right, it was their characterization that was off. Actually, even Tsubomi's, when you consider the movie happens right after she becomes a more capable fighter, but it was easier to let her off the hook because it was closer to how she was before hand.

Erika was like... sticking out like a sore thumb with her characterization. She was pretty much another Tsubomi, and that doesn't work well...

Honestly, I think you kind of hit something I don't like about the DX movies. The new teams look really incompetent to the point that they're shitting their pants. Ironically, this isn't an issue in the New Stage films... and the Smile Cures are the most incompetent team out of all of them. At least Doki's team being competent made sense.

I just finished playing Danganronpa tonight, so I just thought I'd ask why people thought the anime for it was so bad. I don't really plan to watch it, it's just out of curiosity.

Burn Up Scramble Episode 4:

I was never the biggest Yuji fan but making him a captain and giving him a girlfriend where about the worst moves they could have done to his character. He is just a scum fuck who is abusing his authority to try and get with a woman who has rejected his advances. Also, he does not break off things with current girlfriend while pressuring Rio, making that situation worse by the episode.

So did Tenma up and quit his job or something? He's got a lot of time to try and track Johann down. Also seems kinda weird that he's doing this and not the police.

Either Johann is sloppy or he wants Tenma to track him down. I'm guessing it's the later but I'm not sure as to why.

Poor Nina. Did nothing to deserve this.

Robotics;Notes 2-4

This show reminds a bit of Angelic Layer.
Aki is absolutely precious. Unstoppably genki like Hajime in Gatchaman. I love characters like her so much.
in any case a new girl shows up to assist in the project and she speaks in internet tongues.
things are getting pretty interesting.

Amazon shipped me the first part on blu-ray the other day. Can't wait to get it. Also hoping that they lower the price of part 2 before the actual release date next month. $59.99 is steep.

Also ordered this the other day for a July release:

Apparently they changed certain major events that happened in the game for the anime IIRC.

No characterization of characters.
Investigation montages (though they all go over them anyway in the trials so not a big deal)
Bare bones of the plot, just covers enough of it
Looks like half the stuff was lifted from the games, copy+paste of it

Basically, it was too short for its own good, which meant they had to cut out almost all the characterisation that makes the game so good and strip it down to the bare minimum of plot.

As a result, the show gives you no time to even familiarise yourself with the characters before throwing you straight into the trials (the actual gathering of evidence is always reduced to a brief montage) and most of the revelations lose a lot of their impact. Even within the trials, the various twists and turns are often heavily simplified and rushed through to fit within the limited time available, so it's really difficult to appreciate them properly.

In addition, the show doesn't really do much in the way of animation. It heavily imitates the game's visual style quite effectively (they even reproduce the "punishment" sequences so perfectly you wonder if they didn't just rip the movies out of the game), but this just makes you wonder why someone wouldn't just play the game instead, since the anime really doesn't have anything much setting it apart visually. I'd say the game actually looks categorically better.

So in the end, it's impossible to recommend the anime to someone who hasn't played the game, because it's a lesser experience yet would leave them completely spoiled for the real thing. But it doesn't have much to offer for people who have played the game either, since it's mostly concerned with reproducing the game as faithfully as possible within the allotted time, barely doing anything to set itself apart.

I have a hard time putting into words why I love Mad Bull when it's such a wildly inappropriate, offensive piece of fiction.

Yeah if the characterization was nonexistent then I can indeed see it lacking heavily. Also investigation montages followed by everything just being revealed come the trial would be pretty bad, especially if you hadn't played the game and just had to take everything they were saying at face value.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Strike the Blood 19

Pretty decent end to an arc that felt like it dragged a bit at times. Although that last battle with Aya kinda felt a bit weak. And of course there were all the requisite fanservice bits
(dat threesome tease that everyone knew wasn't going to happen)
. Anyway, looks like the next arc might be the final one. At least, a five chapter last arc would make sense, considering we just came off of what was essentially a seven episode long arc that was split into two.

Also, zero Asagi this episode. That drags it down a bit.

Clannad: After Story 9

Just when you think you're out of high school they reel you back in! Sweet episode. It was nice to pull back from the bigger drama and have a smaller scale melancholy episode.
I am pretty much convinced Nagisa is dying at some point.

I really like the OP. Major improvement over Clannad imo.

Man I always forget just how bad the 2010 AOTY list was.

1. Panty and Stocking
2. Durarara!
3. The Tatami Galaxy
4. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
5. K-on!!
6. Princess Jellyfish
7. Angel Beats
8. Oreimo
9. Shiki
10. Katanagatari

Not on the list: Soredemo
At least a few of those shows belong there like The Tatami Galaxy and K-on!!, but the presence of oreimo kinda obliterates any value the list might have possibly had

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Sakura Trick 7

Little bit of unexpected drama in that first segment. Second segment was usual Sakura Trick. Fun, but nothing to really write home about. Good stuff all around.

Didn't click, but to be fair I suspect I did get more actual comedy value out of NouCome than I do from Space Dandy. Space Dandy is wacky and entertaining, but I don't think it's particularly funny for the most part.

NouCome > Space Dandy, real talk.

Monster-1

More people need to start watching Monster is this thread to counteract the rampart amount of Angel Beats. I need to pick up from where I left off as well... 24 I think....

Of course they can't just finish FMP, they have to do the author's next work instead just to troll.

No profit in animating anymore FMP, LN series is over and it was never a big seller anyway. The spinoff series isn't even by Gatoh, ABP needs dat anime boost that most LNs get otoh, also in Gatoh we trust, this will be leagues better than whatever amateurish pos ln KyoAni got sent to them that they try and adapt.

Yay! You're back to Clannad After Story. Now you're getting into the "good" part of the show. I really look forward to each of your episode impressions/reviews from here on out.

I actually just finished an episode just now with it being a bit later than you are in the show.
It still packs a very powerful emotional punch even if this is still my 4th time watching After Story.

P4 and Clannad? Oh boy....

Gonna have to power through one so you can leave more time for the other. Lol. But no your getting into what most largely consider some of the best Clannad episodes. I am genuinely excited to see how you think it all will play out, what happens in the show and how you react to it. This is my Christmas here. :p

Mouryou no Hako 7

Well, that was one of the most esoteric info-dumps ever. All I got out of that mouryou are a crazy folklore creature with all kinds of conflicting definitions.

Is the box/four walls thing why the number 4 is considered unlucky in Japan?

At this point I am lead to assume that the reason no one has ever recommended this thing to me is because you all assumed I'd seen it already?

As someone who at least semi-regularly keeps up with anime, I'm just surprised you hadn't even heard of it. I mean even if your only exposure to anime-related news is this thread, you'll surely have seen people talking about it. I mean, it made it into the top 10 for AOTY two years in a row. That and it's based on a massively popular franchise that people that hate modern anime like.

Gintama 53

This was a great episode. When it started up, I didn't expect it to end being this serious and touching. I think my eyes are a little sweaty. Gintama breaks out the sudden feels like not much else.

Thankfully, I'm almost sort of near the home stretch of P4. :p
