I saw the first sold out today in Yamada Denki in Shinjuku.

But Bic Camera was full of stock. The same in Ikebukuro's shops.

What does full of stock mean? That they haven't sold any or simply still have some in stock?

Prediction League March 2014

Predict how much these titles will sell in the month (from Feb 24 to Mar 30):

[PS4] Hardware (35 days) - 163.000
[3DS] Harvest Moon Tsunagaru Shintenchi (32 days) - 202.000
[PSV] Soul Sacrifice Delta (25 days) - 176.000
[PS3+360] Dark Souls II (18 days) - 308.000
[PS3+PSV] J Stars Victory Versus (12 days) - 264.000
[PS3] Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes (11 days) - 245.000
[PS4] Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes (11 days) - 70.000
[PS3+PSV] Samurai Warriors 4 (11 days) - 289.000
[3DS] Mario Party Island Tour (11 days) - 211.000
[PS3+PSV] Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd (4 days) - 281.000
[360] Titanfall (4 days) - 37.000

I don't really think it would be all that hard to have FF style cinematics on a portable device and SE could make mainline FF and KH work on portables if it was no longer seen as viable on consoles.

Could they, though? I don't think it's an invalid argument, but it'd still constitute a pretty huge risk.

Yes, budgets would be much lower, but would that outweigh the shrinking dedicated handheld market and the loss of whatever percentage of the KH/FF fanbases won't accept sub-AAA production values?

Not a lot of options for the Japanese, unlike the West. We had: Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield 4, Killzone, NBA 2k, Madden, etc. They have Yakuza and Dynasty Warriors(?). Apparently Killzone is pretty big in Japan; didn't realize that. There aren't a lot of Japanese games available is what I'm trying to say.

this is news to me.

I feel the issue here is that the sales of major FF and KH games are incredibly Western centric where going on handhelds is going to forever bar them from reaching anywhere near their former heights. It would be like a minimum 60% or 70% decline in revenue depending on franchise from peak.

Given they have also seemed to replaced Final Fantasy on handhelds with the consistent message, quickly sequelizable Bravely Default series (that I'm assuming they expect to grow a lot or get canned given they killed everything else in the 300K sales range), I imagine this is the opposite if the direction they are thinking.

Have you read the post? It says February 24 to March 30. Launch week is not included on his prediction.

I'll never understand why they switched KH to handhelds for a generation when the region when KH2 sold the best was NA. I understand why they released something like 358/2 Days on the DS, but Birth by Sleep should have been a PS3 game since it's quite important for KH storyline (yes, i know "lol kh story" but still...)

Kingdom Hearts is incredibly kid focused too in the west though and I'm a little unsure how well PS4 and X1 are going to reach those demographics. Perhaps by the time KH3 is ready to release that'll be less of an issue but I'm not sure if there isn't still a big audience mismatch with consoles today versus consoles in the early 2000s.

Bingo. That's why stuff like DQ and MH can be moved to handhelds, because they don't sell anything in the west.

Luckily, FF and KH have a huge western audiences.

I guess the way I see it is:

1.) This is likely a Fall 2016 game at the earliest, at which point the consoles should be pretty cheap and Nintendo might even be replacing the Wii U by then. LEGO also did fine on HD late last gen.

2.) Disney is putting 95%+ of their kid focused games on mobile so if we are chasing that audience neither consoles nor portables are the right answer.

Yeah, I don't think that putting KH on handhelds is the answer with the seemingly poor sales of KH3D (thought it had a good bit of flaws). But I am wondering what the solution is. I think kids leaving from home consoles to mobile (and fans of Japanese games to various other devices) as well as the extremely lengthy absence from consoles that it's had is going to make KH one of those 2.5-3m sellers and that's right on the edge of profitability in the era of giant budgets for AAA games.

You can say that about a lot of Square Enix Eidos' games though (with Deus Ex and Tomb Raider and Eidos' general divisions also seeming to be close to that edge). I don't know if there's a good solution for Square right now in any of those scenarios though...

85% sold out of camera bundle

So I guess the question is, will PS4 48h JP sales beat out 48h UK sales of 250k+, without the competition of 150k XB1 sold in UK week 1 (48h too).

I don't think we got estimates for camera bundle %. Impressive if it was 50%, not very impressive if it was 5%.

the ps4 and xbox one may get down to $300 three years after launch, but is that 'cheap'?

i'm hoping the ps4 is $180 or $150 in late 2016. super high prices need to go away.

I'm surprised the camera is getting bought so much (including the West as well).

I think streaming is going to be huge this gen, lots of people are going to buy PS4 just for that. Kind of funny that Microsoft pushed the Kinect so hard this gen but failed to have Twitch available at launch.

I really doubt they take 3 years to knock 25% off of the price, Sony's MO with PS1 and PS2 was the razor blade model, and it worked. Obviously PS3 was a massive mistake, and they seem to have realised that and switched back to PS1/PS2 model, also consider that the architecture is of mass produced commodity parts which should rapidly fall in cost (unlike PS2 & PS3) then I really do expect the first price cut this year;

1994/12/03 PlayStation® [SCPH-1000] introduced. (RRP 39,800 Yen)
1995/07/21 PlayStation®[SCPH-3000] eliminating S-video output introduced.(RRP 29,800 Yen)
