The Xbox One price cut comes into effect this coming Friday, the 28th February, although some retailers seem to have, ahem, jumped ahead: the previously reported news that Simply Games were offering an Xbox One discount "for today only" now should have read "for today only this week, apart from Friday".

"It's about giving gamers in the UK the best possible value that we can," Xbox's UK excellently-named Marketing Director Harvey Eagle told us in an interview this morning. "We feel the time is right now to do this because Titanfall is coming out. It's the game that most gamers are looking forward to playing, and we think that this is a great time to offer this new price point moving forwards, and include the game while stocks last."

"Titanfall is a game that has won more than 80 awards so far, it's incredibly hotly anticipated, and I believe it's a game that people will buy an Xbox One in order to play. But moving forwards if you think about what I think are the three hottest games of the year to come, Titanfall, Watch Dogs and Destiny, the only place you're going to be able to play all three of those games is on Xbox One."

Xbox One has been cut in price to £399.99 and will come with a copy of Titanfall.

The price cut follows a tricky start for Microsoft's new console. The machine has sold ok since launch, but has been eclipsed by its rival – PlayStation 4.

The new Xbox One comes with Titanfall packaging, an Xbox One console, Kinect sensor, Xbox One wireless controller, headset, Xbox Live Gold and a copy of Titanfall.

It also comes alongside a series of service updates to the Xbox One, as Microsoft looks to improve its online service ahead of the launch of Titanfall.

The new bundle will be available to order at retailers from February 28th.

If they do a $399 bundle for the U.S. too...that would be insanely aggressive.

Edit: Looks like the bundle is $499 for US.

For comparison: Xbox One used to cost £429 in the UK.
The PlayStation 4 costs £349 in the UK.

I'm a huge Xbox One fan - I love my console.
I feel a little let-down by this though..

Sure, I got my console early and I'm having a BLAST with it - but cutting the price so soon AND bundling in Titanfall means that I could have saved about £80 if I'd held off.

When Microsoft price-dropped the original Xbox they sent out free stuff to say thanks to early adopters. I hope that they'll consider doing the same again.

Does this announcement pave the way for discounts in other territories, or just the UK?

It's a UK specific announcement on price but the Titanfall bundle is part of a global program that will be announced today.

How much is the price cut decision driven by Xbox One's current sales performance in the UK?

It's not driven necessarily by our sales performance. In fact, we're very happy with our sales performance. Xbox One has been the most successful Xbox launch we've ever done. I think we've seen both consoles be very successful in the UK commercially. I think that's great for the industry.

But this is an announcement that's linked to giving the best possible value we can to our fans. The reason we're doing this now is because Titanfall is coming and it seems like the right moment in time to offer an improved price point with the inclusion of the hottest game.

What about those who have purchased an Xbox One recently? Can they expect any compensation in light of this announcement, or is it very much an unfortunate scenario for them?

We're hugely appreciative and we'd like to thank everyone who has supported us since launch. What I would say is that the majority of the consoles purchased since launch have included a game. Earlier we were offering Forza 5 or FIFA and this latest offer has been timed to coincide with the launch of Titanfall.

This definitely levels out the playing field, at least a little. Perhaps a reaction to the success of PS4 over Xbox One in the UK?

Guess sales not as excellent some would like to proclaim. Seems like the fastest price drop ever. Especially for a console that had the second best launch of all time. Sales must of fell off a cliff and down a ditch.

this is really crazy..

Xbox One hasn´t even launched in Tier 2+ regions.. and allready a permanent pricecut..

Interesting to see, what will be the price in those tier 2 countries (Scandinavia for example). Price dropped with TF or original price w/o TF.

Managed to get all the component parts for the X1 for £280 on ebay, price cut is good but can still be beaten. I guess given that I'll buy TF on the US store it'll be £316 in the end.

I can see this helping, the prices of PS4/One games in the UK makes it so that this is essentially the same price as a PS4+ 1 game.

Although the inFamous bundle is around £390.

What about on 360?

Better. Much better. only £50 more than PS4 but has kinect and a game. That is much better parity in price, as a game with the PS4 would cost the same, making kinect seem 'free'.

They should offer all early adopters a free game and watch the Titanfall numbers on Xbox one fly.

Of course this is unlikely to happen, but it would be neat if it did.

Pretty pissed off at this. What about fans which just forked out £30 more and now have to put cash down on Titanfall. If we had known that in such a short period of time we could pay less and get the console + game bundled I'm sure many would have waited.
