Mario DS was the first time I used wifi in any device. It feels insane to say that, because it wasn't that long ago.

Oooo... I might wanna get some 'goodbye' games in before the servers go out

Are DS games still able to be played online on a 3DS?

WTF!? I hate when companies do this, it's false advertising when you buy a game and the online doesn't work.

As long as the shops remain open, that's fine.

Actually, I still need to download Layton and Picross puzzles (never came around to it since the DS doesn't like WPA2). Will that stuff still be available?

I'm assuming that Mario Kart 7, despite being under the N WFC label when it first launched, is unaffected.

It does not affect 3DS / Wii U games. Mario Kart 7 actually says “Connecting to Nintendo Network” upon selecting online mode and mentions Nintendo Network in the e-manual.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
I have a feeling this will apply to Worldwide too. That was certainly the case when the Wii Weather Channel etc shut down.

If sony and Microsoft did this for ps3 and 360 people would be outraged.

Quite so. It's shitty as all hell, and embarrassing to boot. There's no need for it to happen and it definitely puts Nintendo on a shaky precedent.

I was just looking for the silver lining. The games still work at least.

PAULINK

I microwave steaks.
Still remember when I got Mario Kart DS and Tony Hawk's American Sk8land and playing them both online around launch, was crazy at the time.

This is going to be a lot of games.

Fuck, that means I'll probably never finish getting to all of the Picross 3D downloadable puzzles (there's way more than you can fit on the cart at one time) :(. I've been slowly working through them for a while now after finally finishing all of the downloadable puzzles for Picross DS (which has waaaay less cart space).

I'm guessing the shop stuff is all staying up since you can access those from a Wii U/3DS and they still probably make some money off of it.

OH NO, I forgot about this. Someone needs to compile a list of all the games you can download extras from.

Picross, Picross 3d, I know the first professor layton did.

Mario Kart DS was my first online multiplayer experience on handheld.
Really impressed me back then.
RIP

I wonder if Suikoden Tierkreis are affected.

Guess I'll have to get some Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom matches in for old times sake before it gets shut down, then.

Shame about the Pokemon games though, especially Gen V.

That's because people pay for those services. Whether it is better or not on those systems (it is), or whether it's better and free on PC (it is) is one thing, but the consumer base for online services of Nintendo has been conditioned to expect free services without all the bells and whistles. Of course they/we would like more but that's a slow path of progress.

Personally, I wasn't a huge user of their wifi services but it was nice to be able to drop in anytime and get smashed in mario kart.

GAF needs to say goodbye to every major (and just special) NWFC game throughout the month of May. Brawl, Mario Kart DS, Worms Open Warfare 2, Battalion Wars 2, Mario Strikers Charged...

These games are 9 and 6 years old. Move on. This is standard practice for online servers.

Brawl's online was a monstrosity

Queue up for a 4 player 2 min game with 3 anonymous players.

Unless you had close friends with friend codes.

I'll have to download the picross ds puzzles. The picross 3d puzzles I was almost able to fit. I think it had to delete 5-6 collections to get the others to fit.

Same here...

I'm not too sad about the DS games going down since I haven't used a WEP connection in ages anyway, but I will surely miss the days of watching enemy Link, Ness, and Sheik players do naught but crouch repeatedly while 2 minutes stretched out to become 10.

EDIT: I take this to also mean Project M won't be playable online?

No more MKWii online? A game that was actually playable (and fun) online unlike Smash?

Dang. I guess they want you to upgrade.
