GAF, I have some extra money to spend and I feel like being charitable.

Whoever can make the coolest art of Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones/Slade Wilson from Arrow/Mirana from DOTA 2 I'll gift a copy of the game to over Steam. Also please include an avatar sized version.

Anyone willing to participate? :)

BTW I just tuned into a stream and it's already on the final boss. Stay away from those things if you don't want spoilers. This game is at its best when you have no idea what's coming.

One guy had a legit copy it seems. The other one I don't know. I guess most of the prerelease streams are usually pirate copies.

Honestly wish that they were required to verify owning the game if you are streaming pre-release, It's not really fare for some of these streamers to be profiting from pirated copies.

Keep in mind Chrono Trigger got a lot more length because of New Game+ and 12 different endings.

Chrono Trigger's endings barely altered the experience; the vast majority of them were pretty much easter eggs for challenging the final boss early. Chrono Trigger is very much a twenty hour game.

And, honestly, how many potential buyers are there in pewdiepie's audience? Especially for a story driven game like this.

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me like thats a young demo that doesn't have the means to buy many games, so they're content to just watch someone play.

I remember his Let's play of Beyond: Two Souls was ok. What's wrong with him showing cool games? I think people need to check his videos. It's not all annoying noises.

I watched some of his SP gameplay recently, and after about two minutes; I turned off. Each to their own, but he ain't to my liking.

I am happy I bought the game on PC because people that are playing the PS3 version are claiming that there are stutters during the main town and that the general performance isn't all that great.

Some of the PS3 settings are as follows:

demo_mode = false/true
disable_warnings = false/true
censored_archive = ( I guess here you enter the archive name, is an .oaf file )

enable_postprocess = false/true
enable_depth_of_field = false/true
enable_bloom = false/true
enable_antialias = false/true
enable_color_correction = false/true
enable_color_controls = false/true
enable_fog = false/true
enable_heat_haze = false/true
enable_transparent_depth = false/true
motion_blur_enable = false/true
motion_blur_scale = 0.5
motion_blur_max_length = 0.3
movie_sharpen_amount = 0.0
movie_sharpen_radius = 0.0
scaleform_edge_aa = 1.0

shadow_quality= 2
msaa = 2
support_aspect_ratio_4_3= false/true
default_display_conversion = box
dist_fade_duration = 0.5
dist_fade_in_range = 40.0
dist_fade_out_range = 45.0

I guess most of these and probably more will also be there on the PC.
That's all I could find GAF!

Ouch, that doesn't sound good. I kinda expected the no anti aliasing though, not many PS3 games use it. I just hope it doesn't have any screen tear, but it probably will. I wanted so bad to get it on PS3 too :(.

How do you get that coupon?

http://blog.playfire.com/2014/02/get-20-off-pc-download-games.html

Looking for any PC deals - is the 20% off coupon from the GMG the best deal pre-launch?

Thanks!

Have a read of this:

Yes, with Steam games the version you receive depends on the version you activate. You can buy a key for $41 from the site Visualante linked to above (https://www.gamekeysnow.com/keys/South-Park:-The-Stick-of-Truth), but as they're retail keys they're unlikely to come with the pre-order bonus pack. If you'd prefer the guarantee of a pre-order key, you can buy the game from Nuuvem for an additional ~$1.70.

Edit: Do note that you may be required to use a VPN to activate a retail key pertaining to the uncensored version of the game. Spotflux is free and US-based. Using a VPN is technically against the SSA but to date there are no verified or reputable reports of Valve taking issue with people using one to just activate a key or unlock a game early; indeed, myself and many other GAFers have used VPNs for these purposes many times over the years and haven't encountered any trouble whatsoever (the most recent example would be Thi4f, which first unlocked in some Asian countries).

GMG is your best bet if you desire a pre-order key but would prefer to avoid the possibility of needing to use a VPN, but in opting for this you are paying a small premium.

So if I buy it from Nuuvem using a VPN, i'll get a US key? Is that right? And I then may have to use a VPN again to activate it on steam? Is that right?

It'll be a rest-of-world (everywhere that isn't Germany, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Eastern Europe) key, yes. If the key is region-locked then upon attempting to redeem it on Steam you'll get an error stating that your purchase has been "cancelled", however this doesn't mean that the key itself has been eaten; just enable Spotflux, type "what's my ip" into Google to ensure the VPN is active, and then activate the key again. The game itself is region-free so you can uninstall Spotflux once it's in your library.

Damn, sounds a little risky. I guess I've just never done anything with Steam over VPNs so I feel a little uneasy about potentially breaking any rules and getting my steam account banned or something.
But you're pretty sure this'll work, right?

Thanks a lot for your help.

EDIT: I should be able to do the same thing through Green Man Gaming, shouldn't I?

Darn, I already pre-ordered the PS3 version. Guess I'll just buy it on PS3, and hope for the best. If I was able to make it through Fallout New Vegas on PS3, I should be able to make it through this.

It'll work. There's practically zero risk in using a VPN, really: I just mention it's against the SSA in the interest of full disclosure. Valve doesn't care if you're not using one in an attempt to skirt pricing intended for the Steam Store of your region as it doesn't see a cent from keys sold at retail and unlocking a game early hurts nobody.

EDIT: I should be able to do the same thing through Green Man Gaming, shouldn't I?

GMG has confirmed that its Aussie store will be selling Aussie keys.

I just want to know why Obisidan has a hard time with the PS3 this late in its life. Is this game using Unreal Engine or what?

I'm not a fan but I have no problem with him or his audience. I'm just curious how effective it is to give him exclusive access to games if his audience is mostly content watching him play games.

Wait, this is censored? Where? (Probably in Australia, *cries*)
Well, the German release doesn't have swastikas for obvious reasons, but other than that it's the same, while Australia is different matter as the game was censored pre-emptively (R* did this, unnecessarily, with GTAIV in 2008). Additionally, as far as copies bought through the Steam store directly are concerned, at least, New Zealand + Singapore + Hong Kong + Taiwan are lumped in with Australia, so they get the censored version, and Austria is lumped in with Germany, so it gets the swastika-free version.

.

Edit: Oh, and the console versions are censored Europe-wide, UK included.

Those people are streaming pirated copies, no? I imagine that as Twitch and other streaming services continue to grow, publishers will pressure them into taking down pirate streams.

I like embargoes - they ensure that reviewers aren't all rushing to be first to publish - but you're right that it's frustrating to have to keep information from readers. All I can tell people is to wait for the review.

Yeah I'm not sure if they're pirated or just early copies that broke street date. Though seeing people post code from the PS3 version makes me think that info came from pirated copies

Really sucks if the PS3 version is shit. I think it's coming to redbox so I guess I'll grab it there to make sure it's okay before I buy it.

The PS3 version isn't bad. It does stutter when it first loads a new part of the town, but that's something that could probably be patched. I haven't noticed any screen tearing or anything. it looks 100% like the cartoon imo. It's my early candidate for game of the year as I don't think anything else will touch the fun I continue to have with this.

Any jaggies? No tearing is a relief, I loathe tearing.

Anyone know the absolute cheapest place to get this on PC? I'm in the US if it matters

Nuuvem (~$42.65) or Game Keys Now if you want to save $1.70 and don't mind waiting until the 7th as well as potentially missing out on the pre-order pack. Since you're in the US you don't need to worry about the possibility of using a VPN to activate the key.

So I checked the twitch archives of that guy who finished streaming, I think he was wrong on his earlier estimate of how much he played. Looks like he finished in around 14 hours, and that doesn't include all the side quests.

That's pretty much all I'll look into so I don't spoil anything for myself. I still had the chat open and I believe he said he wanted to replay as a different class, so I assume he really enjoyed it.

But yeah there does seem to be some stuttering/slowdown issues on at least the PS3 version just based off the couple times I tuned in. It just wasn't my stream, he was vocally complaining about it.

I also assume he's playing without the day one patch so who knows, that may help.

I'd rather play the 360-version but I think there is no uncut-version that will run on my PAL-360.

The graphics look not very demanding.

No jaggies that I've noticed. The game really looks like the cartoon. You can tell Matt and Trey put so much soul and effort into this. Most of my play time yesterday was just going around the town seeing everything I could interact with and doing side missions. Its great and it definitely encourages multiple play through to get all the trophy and different dialogue. I picked Jew of course as it was too tempting and one side mission had me
finding Jesus
. So much great humor in this.

Oh, I meant using a VPN to get the US GMG store and buying it through there.

Ah, right. The possibility would still exist that you'd need to use a VPN to activate the key on Steam so you'd be paying more for no reason.

Does anyone know what the patch is meant to solve?

Yeah good point. I guess I just feel more comfortable buying from a US website, since I don't really understand anything I'm reading on Nuuvem. But I'm sure I can figure it out.

Played the PS3 version for an hour so far. The stuttering in the main town is definitely noticeable and somewhat annoying. However, the game just looks so much like the show that I can overlook that part of it.
It's also hard to hate on a game where I just got a mission from Al Gore!

Have Google Translate on hand when registering an account. Signing in and checking out is easy enough, though, thanks to the iconography.

Edit: Oh, and to clarify you don't need to use a VPN to buy from Nuuvem. In some cases you do (e.g. Football Manager 2014) but not with South Park.
