Looks like nothing.......Amazon prolly read the reviews and saw they were spam or trolling. They even took a 5 star away. They may even be pulling reviews that aren't verified buyers.

Not topic worthy at all, looks like ppl trying to hate on Titanfall and EA?

There is no way to prove which one came first from this. Also is this a special thing or has Amazon done spring-cleaning on low reviews for other products before?

Can't check how legitimate the reviews were either, so...

Edit: looks like someone found some proof on it below.

Uhh, OP, how do we know that the 1 star reviews that were removed weren't just the equivalent of "EA SUCKS DICK TITANFALL IS SHIT."

Here is the amazon thread discussing it.

James says:
I did not like Titanfall but I did buy it here on Amazon. I know many people disagree with me and thats fine. We can debate on things I did not like. But it should concern us all that people that have the "verified purchaser" label are being removed with other people that did not purchase it or is an obvious fanboy.

I always thought that even if a review of anything was bad the " verified purchaser" meant they at least bought it. It gave there review more legitimacy. If its fair game to remove peoples reviews like that its un-ethical.

But now I will need to not consider reviews at all on Amazon as its safe to assume reviews have been removed so they can sell more of something.

D Man says:
Yep, I just saw a "verified purchaser" with a 2 star review get removed. Amazon, you are losing my faith.

S. trimble says:
I can verify reviews are being deleted. I just watched it happen. There were 2 2 stars and 4 3 stars...I hit refresh and the 2 and the 3 star reviews were gone. Wow. I came here because IGN has yet to release their review, and they normally do on a games release date.

ScottGunn says:
My review that was removed was a three star review with no cuss words. Spoke of nothing but the content and gameplay.

Brandon P Lewis says:
Thanks OBAMA.

Those screenshots don't prove anything... OP do you have more info?

edit:

I see alr1ght's post. If this is true and the reviews weren't violating some ToU (vulgar/explicit) rules then this is poor form by Amazon.

Based on metacritic and other sites I'm sure most of those bad reviews were shit.

hell even the ones they left up are shit

-Great Idea In general but gets boring fast !
-The frame-rate drops are bad and the 720p graphics bring the overall experience down (get pc or xbox 360 version)
-59.99 no single player
-xbone cant even support the graphics and you really dont get a full experience of the game on xbone
-streaming with an upload of 10mbs and down of 50mbs and still experiencing lag (note the ram consumption of the xbone)
-This game will be ok till sept but be prepared for Destiny and I advise you to get it for ps4 no sense of being on a next gen 720p console

Reading through the reviews before on amazon: Some of the 1star and 2star reviews were really informative, constructive, well written and fair. They also removed verified reviews (a sony fan would definitely buy a product just to be verified)?

Might be getting ahead of yourself there. I wouldn't be surprised if there were lots of troll reviews going up for Titanfall.

Okay, and where is the screen capture of those reviews? The picture you posted proves nothing.

Meanwhile at MetaCritic.... http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/titanfall

Welcome to console wars and astro turfing. After reading some of the "user" reviews on games and consoles....more moderation is a good thing than bad here, in my opinion.

Holy shit! This is the prime example of astro turfing. Just look at those tens!
"Frenetic"
"Refreshing"
"Dynamic"
"The number of times I say "Xbox Record That!" is a testament to that"
"Hectic combat"
And I'm not even talking about the fucking 6 paragraph essays on why this game is the new Modern Warfare.

Jesus this is like NeoGaf "Happy Expo Junior BanTime!" level bad.

They probably removed the one liners that probably were trolling or something. This happens in a lot of places. Heck, I was checking the xbox one adapter reviews on best buy before the update and saw it was at 3 stars because some one said it didnt work (obviously, since the update wasnt live) and a few days later that was removed.

I'd guess too many "no" clicks on the "was this helpful" option gets a review pulled.

Which is most likely just fanboys being fanboys. Or if you're a conspiracy nut, EA/Microsoft employees.

The number of 5 star reviews has now dropped to 78.

In other words, get over the goddamned gamer conspiracy theories already. Jesus Christ.

Another possible reason to question the narrative of MS/EA removing the reviews: Assuming this isn't a new option and publishers can do it on a whim, we probably would have seen it happen for other major debacles like Battlefield 4, Sim City, Diablo 3, etc.

Without knowing the content of the reviews that were removed, it's not really fair to imply what you're implying.

The information in the OP is not enough to go off of -- there are plenty of reasons to remove reviews. However if there is proof that the reviews removed are not garbage..

This is what you got from the OP?

haha

oh wow

I was kidding about the why not both. And as for the first part, I wouldn't be too surprised if MS were paying for something like this. We've got evidence that they've tried shady stuff like this before (the youtube thing comes to mind).'

Still, I know as much as everyone else, so nothing much. We'll need more proof.

They just removed 17 more 5 star reviews, 4 of the 4 star reviews, 4 3 star, and 5 1 star.

Then maybe they're just culling the unconstructive reviews. The OMG BEST GAME EVER, and OMG WORST GAME EVER type.

Does Amazon actually stand to benefit from this? Do games have high profit margins or something ($10/copy)?

This sounds like just troll filtering and isn't really meaning anything but knowing GAF this will turn into a 20+ page thread at the least because why not.

No. Amazon famously allowed bad reviews in the early eCommerce days as a policy because Jeff Bezos thought they were important.
