Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

It's a shame that people's excitement for Watch Dogs is purely based on graphical quality. Am I the only one still intrigued by the game's premise?

It's a Ubisoft open-world game, it has nothing going for it in the gameplay department.

PS4 version might not have the wind simulation actually. I haven't see the trees or plant move as much in any of the PS4 videos

:/

They have mentioned that it does have it. It really isn't "simulation" if it's windy ALL the time ;)

Watch the "Welcome to Chicago" trailer again. They confirmed it was made using the PS4 devkit.

Infamous second son looks a lot better.

That's debatable... I think this looks quite nice and couldgive inFamous a run for its money. I want to see an example of these visuals at a higher resolution but it's worth considering that Chicago here appears to be a whole hell of a lot bigger and more dense with interactable objects and AI citizens than Seattle in inFamous, with a global lighting system as opposed to a mixture of global and pre baked, which enabled inFamous to push lighting a little further at the cost of a constant night and day cycle. Those nighttime scenes look easily on par with inFamous imo and could overtake it easily with a splash of neon color

Just so people know, wind simulation is not shit waving/ moving all over the place all in generally the same direction. Every engine and pretty much all the consoles can handle that.
This is wind simulation.
HiEUVtZ.jpg

You start with a gust of wind from an origin and it actually impacts with walls and objects.
The green is where wind is strongest and purple means there is little-to-no activity.

IDK if it is on the console versions.

Yea I don't think this is in the PS4 version. The trees and grass don't move at all in the PS4 gameplay videos

or maybe they haven't implemented it yet? who knows?

hrmm, barely looks different than the recent PS4 footage [read: highly underwhelming].

not excited at all by this game's premise, so without fancy graphics to draw me in, it's really hard to bring myself to care.

i'm not a huge GTA / open-world fan anyway, so i'm certain for those who are - this might prove more intriguing.

They said lots of interesting things and then they showed guys with guns.

I am also expecting that Assassin's Creed Unity on PC will a magnitude better than the console versions...

What is this singular spec PC you keep referring to?
I wish when people say things like this they would put a dollar amount on that PC.

The only thing I saw moving in that video was piece of trash and can. In this video the trees and the grass are swaying nicely. I dunno...
Nah, it's there. Watch the early morning yoga people. Right before the guy who lifts his leg for the quadrotor. Trees move too.
I wonder why people would doubt this after plenty of games that had something similar.

Those are just the PC enhancements, we haven't seen the Nvidia enhancements yet :)
TXAA, HBAO+, Nvidia DOF, Physx, 4K support....

Maybe this time they'll actually optimize the PC versions, eh?

I'm expecting it to run like shit regardless of the tech and specs just because of the previous games.

Dude. You aren't looking at the responses you got! :/

In terms of the simulation, Watch_Dogs' PS4 version will feature a dynamic wind system that factors in ambient weather, moving objects, city topography and other factors, creating detailed maps of air pressure eddies and currents rather than just a blowing in a single direction.

Exactly the same thing being visualized in VisceralBowl's post.

4K support....
This is the stupidest thing I have seen pop up recently. Literally every game I have supports 4K in some way, shape, or form. All the "support" means is that the UI (if it doesn't already) scales so it isn't tiny.
But yessss for the PhysX (especially the fog)

I don't get anyone who thinks this is unimpressive next to comparable open world games

I get that it's cross gen and that has hampered its visuals considerably but still... in what world does this game look mediocre visually? hey at least I'm seeing fewer asinine comparisons to 360 and PS3 titles in this thread

Huh... I wonder how many of those effects will be available on console too.

To clarify, it says "exclusive video" not "exclusive PC tech", so it *is* possible to ask that question ;) (and yes, I speak German, danke)

So its an exclusive video or exclusive to PC.. and it if its PC is it Nvidia exclusive?

A picture's worth a thousand words, huh?
Just look at that beautiful aliasing with a hint of missing parallax mapping, lol. Only possible on PC my ass. That trailer looks just as visually mediocre as every other footage we've received of the PS4 version.

Present a comparable open world game in a similar environment
run through an internet video compression filter and then an internet image compression filter, presented throughout the entire pipeline at less than native res

I mean did you even consider any of that before commenting on the aliasing or the missing mapping? lol come on you people aren't even remotely fair to this game and it's blatant as fuck. Ridiculous

I'd imagine that in person that scene looks quite good

All of these effects are in the PS4 trailer as well.
So I guess we will have to wait and see.

Is the PS4 version confirmed 1080p?

The effects in question are possible as being physx, something thats in the PC version....

I am aware. PhysX is Nvidia only and is in the game, but I do not believe that it is part of the Wind Simulation. If anything it is going to be extra trash on the ground +PhysX fog/smoke

I wish when people say things like this they would put a dollar amount on that PC.

Because when people say things like that they're talking about how high the PC version will scale.

I don't know what dollar amounts or anything like that has to do with that.

I highly doubt any of those effects are PC exclusive but they are enhanced in the PC version...
Better shadows, reflections, draw distance, water/wind simulation, and overall improved lighting.

4K support isn't really an 'enhancement' PC games have supported 4K and above for a long time. It's a basic feature of a PC game.

lol at some of the responses. Just because they assumed it was getting something that the PS4 is not.

Interesting psychological experiment. :p
