NeoGAF, welcome to .webm - the FUTURE (of burning out your CPU)

So when I installed the Firefox extension linked for GAF earlier, I just get a grey box with an X in it that says "Video format or MIME type is not supported."

How fix

Had not checked the size of my previous one, the miwa gif is just 500KB! Well, it's just a couple seconds, but damn, it's 1280x720 and has audio.

Made a few more off the C&C3 trailer, now I remember why I kept it, it's kinda fun

Could have made a better cut out of the first two, but eh, it's fine as it is. Each one is roughly 1.5MB, damn good for a 720p clip with audio

OK I have to admit, you are damn good at this. No audio will probably make these 1mb which is damn incredible for the quality. I'm sure that will be the restriction in place on GAF if this ever does happen.

Mind doing a webm with actual gameplay from a game and no audio? Just to test around what range the size will be.

Those images were likely hosted on 4chan; the thread where image was in would already be a day old, thus having the thread purged, along with all of the images and posts in that specific thread.

If not that, then maybe your browser is outdated?

(this is from Miwa's music video "Kiss you", as I'm sure someone might ask)

lol, I love how you felt the need to say it was miwa's "Kiss You" video even though it's written right there in the clip. Your faith in humanity seems as shaky as mine and rightfully so because you know that 9 times out of 10 somebody will still ask.

On a semi-related note, it's good to see an other miwa fan; the girl is very talented.

Is sound off by default. cant seem to get it working unless I touch the volume bar while the video controls are shown

EDIT: and lol just noticed sunhi's wbm had sound

I'm glad you enjoyed mate, though I don't feel I deserve any praise, I just got Skyfireblaze's script to work and had that video in my downloads folder, hehe. After that it was just a matter of testing out.

I could try making one out of gameplay videos, just have to find some good ones and give it a go tomorrow, I gotta go to sleep soon as I have to get to work early.

You know, I was trying to get the right timing for the video so I wasn't really paying attention to anything else, but yeah, I notice a lot of people simply check a video and ask for the source several times over, might as well put it in the post so we can get more people to become Miwa's fans, haha

Love her work, she was actually the first japanese singer I started listening to.

Any good method to determine precisely the milisecond part of the timing?

If you use Media Player Classic Home Cinema just press CTRL+G

Also I just thought I should say this, if you want to share my script around other places like 4chan or wherever, no need to ask just share away :)

Anyways, there's the NeoGAF logo to the left of threads, along with the "View First Unread" button at the top of the page.

I knew of it in the Desktop Version but is there anything similar for GAF mobile?

Thanks for the tip, framestep and Ctrl+G makes this a piece of cake.

"Still"? Huh?

oh bummed. I thought there's a way for the desktop browser to default to the First Unread when you click a thread like how it is on mobile :/

I replace my version with your link, got same "Unknown encoder 'libvpx-vp9'" error. Tried again with the script, still same. Well, guess that means VP8 for me now.
Hmm ... I'm out of ideas, I'll look for more answers.
edit:
Have you installed a codec pack (CCCP/K-lite) or other software that includes ffmpeg so that it doesn't use the downloaded version per default (i.e. wrong environment variables)?
type ffmpeg -version, it should say built on Apr something

Have you tried VP9 instead of VP8 (better efficiency)? lower qmax settings (to avoid codec breakup)?

Here's a brute-force I used on a similarly hard video, huehue
Code:
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c:v libvpx-vp9 -qmin 0 -qmax 42 -crf 4 -b:v 10M -c:a libvorbis output.webm
I'll give that a shot -- I was concerned about compatibility with VP9, but then looking it up it seems like most browsers either support both standards or they don't support anything, derp.

And is it just me and my connection or is pomf.se getting hammered?

Please help me with my bad english
For the future of Neogaf webm seems to be pretty isolated in this thread
Of course, since it's not officially supported by the forum. But ultimately, I believe the advantages this format brings are too great for the admin/mods to dismiss it without any consideration. Hell, many gaming/anime/etc related websites & forums are either considering supporting HTML5/WebM or have already implemented the code to support ever since the 4chan announcement.
