I only have a few screenshots because the game is now pretty harsh on the eyes in most places. I activated "next gen" in the options though so it should stand next to new releases withouth problems lol.

I here ya. I only picked up the season pass when it was ludicrously discounted and have been waiting until I had some time to go through both story DLC's at once. Actually really enjoyed the story DLC's, haven't played the arena DLC at all though.

Have you played though the whole game? The next-gen option crashes the game for a lot of people (including me) from the Russian snow level and onwards. After checking forums it seems to be a bug that cannot be fixed. It never happened back in the day (when I could barely run it with next-gen on) but with today's PC's it just crashes.

BTW, I think the game holds up well. It still looks really nice in the jungle enviroments!

If I remember right, I don't think "next-gen" Lara gets wet from swimming. Always bugged the hell out of me back in the day.

Or it could have been just a bug or something.

And now I suddenly want to play those games again. It would be pretty rad if CrystalD or Square or whoever went back in there and added full Steamworks stuff in those games.

My game also crashed every time in the later part of the serpent/arthur-grave level. I disabled "next gen" for the rest of the level and enabled it again for the rest of the game without having it crashing on me again.

At times it does look great, but in other places it's not that impressive, guess it's inconsistent.

The game itself feels like a bunch of leftover levels from previous games, just thrown together. That's why it is inconsistent.

But among the low polys and low res textures, it could have looked much better if it didn't have terrible lighting.

Downsampled from 4k via Bicubic Sharper

Normally i'd say , BiSharp hrnnnnngggg, but it doesn't seem to cause any ill effects in this still shot.

Serious Sam 1&2 HD both have a Bisharp option for SSAA and it doth not look good in motion. After seeing the source 4k image, the in game AA is definitely only FXAA. But FXAA works well with a lot of games and downsampling.

The game is DX9 i'm assuming which means SGSSAA shouldn't be much an issue to figure out for Nvidia cards right away.

Toggleable SSAO also means if we can find a suitable flag, we can use HBAO+ instead. Which would be a god send because the SSAO i've seen of DSII on consoles is beyond terrible.

Yeah, I'm hoping for that as well. HBAO+ is so much better than any other realtime AO I've seen it's not even funny. And most impressvely, when it works correctly it has basically no noticeable failure states/situations.

As for the rest of your post, I also think FXAA works really nicely combined with downsampling, and even if you use a slightly sharper downsampling kernel. The FXAA takes rather good care of edges, its failures (sub-pixel objects and stability) are mitigated by downsampling, and the slight overall blurring is taken care of by the (very slight!) sharpening in the downsampling kernel.

Yes, I completely agree with you.

I still see a lot of people bashing FXAA these days, and while for native resolution use. It can be a valid argument at lower resolutions.(Especially lower resolutions). The higher you go, the less of an issue it becomes and with downsampling, depending on the game it can look medicore to amazing.

I didn't pre-order DSII on PC, but i'm sure someone will quickly try to find a flag for it and post it in my thread once it comes out. The game surely deserves a fitting AO method for how nice it looks in other areas. I'm wondering if it's worth it at this point too to try and find a HBAO+ Flag for DSI. Wonder if it'd play well with DSFix and how it would compare with your methods you implemented. (I wouldn't know how they look in motion beyond the screens i've seen because I haven't played DS yet myself)

I wish I could do downsampling with my Skyrim but my VRAM is already at 4.5GB+ (this is at 1080p)
I think its because of those memory mod fixes which loads stuff into VRAM.

Looks nice but without processing gameplay inputs, AI, yada yada it doesn't mean much. Like most tech demos.

As soon as we have a game then I'll get excited :)

And to Spazznid, it's just the original Korean client :)
