NPD Sales Results for March 2014 [Up4: FFX/X-2 HD]

Seems that MS has to introduce the price cut at E3 or earlier if they don't want to suffer lower console sales until the big titles come at the end of the year. Riding that price was dumb to begin with, but I'm sure they liked that margin on each unit.

Well this thread is literally growing faster than I can read it so I'm just gonna say

Somewhat expected - everyone knew once sony sent them here they'd sell - one and all.

Unexpected. If Titanfall couldn't make a difference, what can?

It's over, period. Microsoft lost their last ace, and that's the end of their Xbox One hopes and dreams.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for Xbox One. Microsoft has nothing left, nothing they can reveal tomorrow would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a Xbox One. Except if they want to play Titanfall. Which will also come to PS4 at some point.

Sony took the last reason away that anyone would NEED to own a Xbox One over a PS4 (except TV SPORTS KINECT LOL GAMING), and the cavalcade of tiny titles that will be nice but won't stir up any sales is not going to salvage the bloated, overdesigned behemoth that was Xbox One.

There may be some hardcore gamer's that stick around. Some did it for Gamecube. But the last bell tolled. Maybe next decade.

The age of Microsoft is done.

MS was practically begging people to buy an XB1 by basically giving TF away for free and they still can't win.

That's really not good.

Also, Infamous did really well for a game that's just on one platform. Amazing.

These sales threads used to be exciting with numbers. Just seems so dull without them. No real meat. =)

However, software STILL being down 24% over last year is pretty poor. Neither Titanfall or inFamous were big enough to pull things up for a better result.

Truly surprised, even after retailers were practically beating customers over the head with the savings for that console.

Microsoft might as well announce the price drop as official and try to bring awareness of it in order to push it. But even then, there isn't much they can do until they can get some better software exclusives.

The price is the problem. I know the box has issues (hardware power etc) but I dont see that being anything compared to the price.

Thing is, parity isn't going to do it. That won't come close to neutralising PS4's increasing lead. They *need* to undercut it significantly, certainly no less than $100 / $50 + a free game. Personally, I doubt they will. They'll let it cruise ala Nintendo are Wii U - it's clearly not moribund in the same way, I'm not making a direct comparison, but it's not the future of Microsoft either.

Not surprised personally. PS4 demand is simply greater than XB1 and the increased supply was all they needed to win the month.

Well this was the next big sales battle after launch and Xbone lost again. Can't say I'm really suprised although I tought that Xbox would get the edge thanks to the price drops more than Titanfall.
Microsoft has done a lot of damage to the Xbox brand with One and they need to get rid of the devastating higher price+less powerful/inferior mtultiplatforms combo ASAP.
Hardware specs can't be changed but they need to drop to 399$.

Who would have thought building a solid product that serves your customer's needs would beat out money, marketing, hype, and greed.

Microsoft PR:

http://news.xbox.com/2014/04/xbox-one-march-npd

The team and I had the honor of joining thousands of you in Austin, Texas at SXSW this past March as you waited in line for the Titanfall launch on Xbox One. We were blown away by your passion and enthusiasm on launch night and since then, it’s been exciting to see gamers around the world playing “Titanfall” on Xbox Live. Today, we congratulate our friends at Respawn Entertainment, and Electronic Arts, as “Titanfall” for Xbox One was named the number one selling game in March, according to NPD Group figures released today.

We’re also happy to share today that more than 5 million Xbox One consoles have been sold-in to retailers since our launch. The new generation is off to a strong start, with global Xbox One sales outpacing Xbox 360 by more than 60 percent at the same point in time, a true testament to your love of console gaming. Even more important to us is how much fun you are having on Xbox One. It’s amazing that Xbox One fans are spending an average of five hours per day on Xbox One and collectively have totaled more than one billion hours of time spent in games and apps on the console. We’re also thrilled to see your use and enjoyment of the latest features and apps we have released as part of our regular system updates. In particular, we broke new usage records with the number of unique Twitch broadcasters in the first week of availability.

Of course, we’re just getting started with this generation and the months ahead will bring several announcements we think you’ll love. The team will continue to deliver regular improvements and new features based on your feedback through frequent system updates. Many more games are on the way with titles like “Sunset Overdrive” and “Project Spark,” many new games coming to Xbox One through the ID@Xbox program, and many more entertainment experiences. We can’t wait to share more games with you in June at E3.

We are grateful for your support on Xbox One and the continued popularity of Xbox 360. We’re going to continue working hard to earn your loyalty and making Xbox the best place to play games.

Xbox One continues to see impressive software sales with an average of 2.9 games sold per console.

With Xbox One and Xbox 360 combined, the Xbox platform sold the most games across all console platforms with 4.1 million games sold. Xbox One sold 1.4 million games in March and Xbox 360 sold 2.7 million, totaling 49 percent of the total software market share (Xbox 360 and Xbox One combined).

Is anyone else quite surprised that the PS4 managed to be the top selling console in the month that Titanfall came out? I was really expecting the Xbox One to claim the top spot this time.

So Titanfall and the long long ass time of hyping the game + great bundles + unofficial price drops and MS still couldn't win

yikes

I am genuinely surprised. I thought Sony had no chance of winning this one. Guess all they had to do was releasing a few games and make sure there's stock for people to buy

After all the marketing, hype, and hyperbole, Titanfall wasn't enough. I'm legit surprised. MS needs to get Kinect out of there and drop the price sooner rather than later.

People yesterday talked about 7 millions ps4 announcement as a Sony preemptive strike because they lost March NPD

Nobody expected this

Dead

well not really...yet
The worst part isn't even the fact that it was Titanfall month. The system was on sale for like $450 almost everywhere, there were gift card bundles, etc.

Yet STILL. wow.
