Thing is, parity isn't going to do it. That won't come close to neutralising PS4's increasing lead. They *need* to undercut it significantly, certainly no less than $100 / $50 + a free game. Personally, I doubt they will. They'll let it cruise ala Nintendo are Wii U - it's clearly not moribund in the same way, I'm not making a direct comparison, but it's not the future of Microsoft either.

I think they could do $400 with Kinect, the device has some value (looking at how popular V1 was on 360) but... im not even shocked. Something was clearly up when they dropped the TF bundle prices a week after launch.

Phil has got a big job ahead of him.

I gotta say, I REALLY didn't expect this result. As most people, I thought X1 would take March (with TF releasing, hw bundles with the game, price "drops"), and would close the gap between the machines to ~150k (about half of what it was).

However, I kinda knew something fishy was going on when Kevin Dent started going crazy about NPD on twitter, though.

People yesterday talked about 7 millions ps4 announcement as a Sony preemptive strike because they lost March NPD

Nobody expected this

Yup, I thought they were trying to soften the blow. Keep people talking about how PS4 still leads overall and one month doesn't matter.

Instead it was part of a 1-2 combo punch just laying into MS. =)

Well, there's Halo 2: Anniversary, I guess. FFX HD just charted, so it doesn't make sense to write off an HD remaster, hahaha.

No but I mean, they'd have to implement a comparable manufactured hype around the game. They spent literally tens of millions of dollars promoting Titanfall. They said it was THE next-gen game experience. They said have you seen Titanfall. They plastered it in the corner of every fucking PR piece they had. Microsoft wanted Titanfall to be the reason to own an XBO, and hid the 360 version to do it.

Do you think Halo 2 Anniversary is going to receive that sort of treatment?

It's over, period. Microsoft lost their last ace, and that's the end of their Xbox One hopes and dreams.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for Xbox One. Microsoft has nothing left, nothing they can reveal tomorrow would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a Xbox One. Except if they want to play Titanfall. Which will also come to PS4 at some point.

Sony took the last reason away that anyone would NEED to own a Xbox One over a PS4 (except TV SPORTS KINECT LOL GAMING), and the cavalcade of tiny titles that will be nice but won't stir up any sales is not going to salvage the bloated, overdesigned behemoth that was Xbox One.

There may be some hardcore gamer's that stick around. Some did it for Gamecube. But the last bell tolled. Maybe next decade.

The age of Microsoft is done.

Hurr Durr, GAF make me a dumb fucking meme everyone will run into the ground within a week.

Microsoft spent the month hyping Titanfall, giving Titanfall away for free, giving Xbox Live Gold for free, discounting their bundles, and Sony still beat them by doing nothing. I thought for sure Xbox One would win the month.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD debuted in a higher position than Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, but I need to see the numbers.

Legit surprised. Microsoft pulled out all the stops for the X1 version of Titanfall to drive hardware sales and it still wasn't enough to top the PS4 for the month.

Gives me a little faith that aggressive marketing and money doesn't guarantee anything in this industry, but where do they go from here? Price drop? No kinect? Bigger marketing budgets, buy up more exclusives? Play it off as no big thing?

I think the DRM debacle angered people more than we thought. They certainly didn't respond to a price drop and a game bundle like we expected. It is like they are numb to Microsoft right now.

It's pretty insane to think after all the discounts and bundles of their premier game that they are still behind by more than 2 million.

That PS4 thirst...

Glad Dark Souls 2 got into the top 5, but I'm pretty surprised Infamous outsold it. Guess people are just ditching their ps3/360's and moving on.
